“The Medium is the Message” ratings: Did Medium actually lose?
October 17, 2009 by Kona Gallagher

So, something crazy happened this week: Medium didn’t win its timeslot. Now, before you begin to despair, I should mention that there are extenuating circumstances: namely, the Angels vs. the Yankees. FOX had baseball on Friday night, so they easily won in the key 18-49 demo. However, as for total viewers, Medium still won its timeslot and CBS won the night.
Medium’s ratings dipped slightly from last week, with 8.04 million viewers as opposed to 8.3 million last week. However, despite the slight dip in overall viewers, Medium was still able to hang on to the 1.9 in the 18/49 demo that it had last week. It also retained most of Ghost Whisperer’s viewers; they had an 8.21/2.0.
All in all, Medium is performing steadily, and while it will probably continue to be beaten by baseball on FOX, at least in the key demos, it’s performing far beyond any scripted shows on the other networks. For example, Ugly Betty had its season premiere last night on ABC, and only ended up with 5.01 million viewers and a 1.3 in the 18-49 demo. As long as Medium continues to perform this consistently, a 7th season seems all but inevitable.

C’mon, it’s October baseball!! Who can expect to beat that?! That’s a given. But it still won in total viewers, so that’s great. And it’s still getting in the 8+ million viewers range, which is significantly better than it was doing last year. I believe it only scored 8M viewers two or three times in the entire season last year. The rest of the time it was in the low-to-mid 7M range, so these numbers are still darn good. Even it did get beat by baseball. But I’d still like to see it do a little better than its lead-in, just to be sure that CBS will hang on to it for a while. That would guarantee it for sure. But I’m sure the ratings will only get better as the season progresses. Especially with two BIG episodes coming up in the next couple of weeks. Next week is MEDIUM’S 100th EPISODE!!!! YEAAAAAYYY!!! GO, MEDIUM!!
I still think Medium won the night.
I checked out Zap2it tv and according to them CBS won the night with Medium and Ghost Whisperer. They didn’t mention the baseball game in the ratings. So I guess that doesn’t count .Medium won against Ugly Betty and the other sitcoms out there.
Medium also seems to be getting better and better as the season progresses. This last one was great and the next two also look like really BIG episodes.
I know I am looking foward to this season of Medium to be awesome!
Medium WIN the night forget about baseball and we have to count the DVR ratings that medium get more than 1 million viewers last week, I love Medium i gonna GO BANANAS WHEN CBS APROVED the 7 SEASON, Next WEEK MEDIUM 100th episodee !!!!!!!!!and next Week The Halloween Special )Night Of the Living Dead i can´t waittt!!!!! MEdium ALL THE WAYYYY!!!!
Medium WON the night with it’s lead in too. CBS has been winning Fridays since the season began and you can see the best is yet to come.
Next week looks to be a really good episode and then comes the Halloween special.
I wouldn’t consider to compete with the ball game. It’s a whole different thing.
A lot of people watch the game and DVR their shows or elase watch on-line now.
Thanks for your 7th season remark Kona–I feel much better now!!! I look forward to Friday nights now, my big change is sending the kids to bed a little earlier and hoping they stay in bed for a change. Really excited about the Halloween episode. Medium is now offered in high def with Comcast–I can rewatch later as the kids usually get up and bug us.
Of course Medium will continue to win the 9 o’clock spot. I talked alot about the friday night death trap at 9 on CBS but as long as Medium wins it every week, which it has so far, we have no problems getting renewed. I was worried about being on fridayt nights but not any more. As far as Baseball goes… Its october. its gonna be hard to win the 18-49 demograhic whealmost alll guys watch sports. and besides, its temporarly. <<>>
Looks like Medium didn’t fare as badly as we feared on Friday night. Turns out it’s ratings were slightly higher than Ghost Whisperer’s, and well above Numbers’, making it CBS’ most watched show of the night again. It was second only to baseball for the night, which is great! Way to go, Medium!
Btw, here’s where I read that.
