A Trip Down Memory Lane – Patricia Arquette sings!

November 25, 2009 by Kona Gallagher

I stumbled across this clip on YouTube recently. It’s for a movie I’ve never heard of, called Infinity. It was made in 1996 and stars Matthew Broderick and Patricia Arquette. I looked it up, and apparently it was Broderick’s directorial debut. From Amazon:

“Actor Matthew Broderick (WarGames, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off) offered up this, his 1996 directorial debut, as a whimsical romance and a tribute to an extraordinary scientist. Broderick plays the brilliant and eccentric Nobel Prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman in a story based on his early life. The fun-loving Feynman and his young bride Arlene, played by Patricia Arquette (True Romance) enjoy their courtship and young married life in New York until Feynman is called away to New Mexico to participate in the Manhattan Project and the development of the hydrogen bomb.”

Now I’m kind of intrigued. In any case, this clip is the first 7 minutes or so of the film, and Arquette shows up around minute 6, singing a funny song while playing the piano. It’s meant to be a fun performance, but I think there’s definitely a reason why Arquette has remained an actress, instead of becoming an actress/singer.

Purchase Infinity on Amazon.

That’s not a bad movie, Kona. But it’s certainly not one of her best. It was an admirable effort, but the script and direction left a lot to be desired. As for her singing, I think it was the song that was the problem with that clip. The rhythm was uneven. I don’t think anyone could have sounded good singing that. I have heard her sing in other things and she has a lovely voice. She’s by no means a great singer, but she’s yards better than that clip makes her sound.

Like Dawn said, she does sound way better in the other things she has sang in. I actually looked for her singing on youtube and I cam across one where she sounds very well.

Let’s just say I was expecting it to be bad. I think my jaw may have dropped slightly.
