Patricia Arquette on Her Illness
Here’s a tidbit from an interview on Why Patricia was feeling ill earlier this year:
Arquette says, “I absorbed so much of the fear of the show that I got really sick and was scared of everything. It was horrible.”‘
I guess those serial killer scenes were just as scary for the actors to make as they were for us to watch. I love that Patricia is so convincing, but I guess she was so good that she started living the character. I certainly hope she gets an Emmy after this!

Wow, I thought it was scary watching it. I guess I can’t imagine how intense it must have been acting it all out. It’s amazing how involved she gets in this all. She should get an Emmy after this.
I sent her a hand-written card (those are always the best) awhile ago telling her to get well soon. I guess we all now know why she was sick.

I think Patricia is one of those rare actors who really gets involved in playing the role, and she probably does take a lot of it on herself. I feel for her and hope that she’s feeling better now and she’s enjoying the break and is getting rested. It worries me now that if it affects her that much that she may not want to continue doing the show.
She definitely deserves an Emmy after this season, especially for continuing to pull off the kind of performances that she has this year, even while dealing with that. That just makes her even more amazing in my book. I really hope she wins an Emmy this year, if for no other reason than to convince her that all of her efforts are worthwhile and have paid off for her.

It seems a little odd to me. JMO

Odd? What are you talking about? She spends every day, 12-14 hours day, playing a character who sees dead people, gruesome crime scenes, and dealing with vicious criminals. And she’s a mother, both on the show and in real life. I can imagine it would get kind of nerve-wracking and exhausting having to do that every day for months on end. Just like almost any other job in the world, only most people don’t have to imagine the kinds of things that she does, or look at the things that she does. I know they aren’t real, but for her to be a good actress, she has to believe they are, if only for a short time. That has to take a toll on her, and the other actors. Add to that that she’s the star of the show, and has more lines and more screentime than any other actor on the show, and it’s no wonder she was exhasuted and rundown, and got sick. JMO.

There were a lot more “personal” stories this year - first, in Be Kind Rewind, she dreamed of the horrible accident that caused both of her legs to be amputated and Scanlon was shot in the chest in part of that dream, too - then there was the Four Dreams episode although it began the season on TV, it was actually shot after Be Kind Rewind and her former and now dead boyfriend Clay Bicks visited her and Bridgette was having those murderous monkey dreams and an entire family was shot in their home, including a baby - then she and Ariel go shopping for a party dress and discover the bodies of the store owner and her daughter - she was inhabited by the soul of a woman whose husband vicously murdered and buried her in The One Behind the Wheel - then she dreamed Marie died of leukemia in 20 years - then there was the serial killer in “We Had a Dream” and that harrowing scene when he was outside the house and she thought she was all alone as he was trying to break in - then in Joe Day Afternoon, Joe was held hostage as two of his co-workers were murdered before his eyes - then we had the whole 3 episode story arc with the heads rolling, her being outed, Joe and her losing their jobs and possibly Devalos and Scanlon, and despite her best efforts to convince her otherwise, Debra who first befriended her then betrayed her - gets beheaded - all very intense stuff. I can see having to wear that character for all those hours and very intense moments really taking a toll. Many actors dig deep inside to find those emotions, perhaps from something that has happened in their past, visiting those dark places over and over can certainly take a toll.
Maybe the writers will put some more lighthearted stuff between the heavy eps and write more stories that are not so personal for the character this season and go back to her solving murders of people she doesn’t know.

Poor Patricia getting sick from work!
Just another reason why she had better get an Emmy nomination tomorrow morning. It will be a really sad day if she does not. She deserves it.
How I see it, She and Kyra Sedgwick are the only two women working in television who actually carry their shows, are the center of the show each episode, and are dynamic and wonderfully 3 dimensional.
They have to go up against actresses like Edie falco, Mariska Hargitay, Connie Britton, Ellen Pompeo, etc., who have certan episides of their shows they dominate, but are not the true leads. I truly think it is unfair for these other, more supporting actresses, to get nominations and win awards over Arquette and Sedgwick.
