Medium Dreams

A Changed Man Rerun Open Mic - Originally Aired 2006

by Katelyn on December 2nd, 2007

In “A Changed Man” Allison whacks her head in the bathtub and has paranormal vision problems along with a concussion.

I’m putting the post up for an open mic, but I may not manage to stay awake for the whole show - I’ve had an exhausting weekend putting materials together for a class and an early day tomorrow! I’ve put out these delicious new chocolate covered cheesecake lollipops that the bakery in town makes. Sounds weird, but they are fantastic. Since we have freezing rain here, I’m serving a choice of mulled wine or hot chocolate along with them.

Yum! What delicious refreshments! What a terrific episode! Katelyn, let me correct you one one thing - Allison fell on the kitchen floor and hit her head, not in the bathtub.

Chilling dreams - what a coincidence to just happen to go to the clinic for the MRI that the guy was at who had been abducting and murdering prostitutes. In the end, you still felt sorry for his wife who had completely turned her life around along with his.

Poor Joe, here he thought he had figured out what caused Allison’s dreams and visions only to be dashed by the MRI done on Ariel! Gosh, wish I had friends like that that where I could go and have all these MRI’s done “just because”.

Myonly quibble with this episode is too little Scanlon. Allison had a one-sided conversation with him - he was never seen - then another phone conversation with him and that was all the Scanlon for the entire ep! Boo Hoo!

I certainly hope everyone got the chance to watch “Finding John Christmas” before or after Medium. David Cubitt was one of the stars of the movie and had a very meaty role. For once, this role really showcased his enormous talent and the sublety of his acting ability. This movie was done while David was under contract to CBS - filmed at CBS Paramount. Funny, it seemed a lot like a Lifetime movie though - they always seems to skip from point B to point F while seemingly skipping points, C, D, and E - a little too simplistic, but nonetheless, still a nice holiday movie and a great showcase for David Cubitt’s acting talent.

I was thinking about this over the weekend, Katelyn, what about starting a thread here where we post other projects for the week that the stars of Medium can be found in? Since the writer’s strike is going on and NBC rarely promotes Medium anyway, why don’t we showcase where to find the stars of Medium in other projects? Just a thought and a suggestion.

    Betty,
You can tell how tired I was, right? The kitchen and bathtub aren’t even similar. I think I was mixing it up with the episode when she walks in and Joe is texting his work friend in the tub.
I definitely would love to highlight all the projects they are working on. I hope they do a second showing so I can catch David Cubitt in Finding John Christmas!

Actually, not to be nitpicky, but it was the bathroom floor where she hit her head, not the kitchen.

But this is a great episode and one of my favorites. One of the highlights for me was seeing Patricia acting onscreen with her brother, because even though she often works with her family, we rarely see them acting onscreen together. She was in the movie Little Nicky with her father, Lewis Arquette, but they didn’t have any scenes together. To my knowledge, this was the only time she has actually worked onscreen with a member of her family. Unless you count the documentary she did with Rosanna, which wasn’t actually acting.
Here’s a neat bit of trivia for you. Patricia was originally cast in the Jennifer Jason Leigh role in Last Exit to Brooklyn, opposite her brother Alexis, when she was just nineteen years old. She turned the part down because she had just discovered she was pregnant with her son, Enzo, and was afraid of the impact it would have on her baby because it was such a demanding role, both emotionally and physically.

Katelyn, I’m stuck in the spam filter again. Help!

Katelyn you’re in luck! “Finding John Christmas” will be re-broadcast on Friday, December 14 at 2 PM, which I think is East Coast time. Set your VCR or Tivo. If you go to TV Now.com and type in the stars name it will give you a list of programs they will be on for the rest of the month - the list is updated each Sunday. Unfortunately, because this site is run by TV Guide and TV Guide does not have the Sleuth Channel listed among it’s programs, it does not include “Turks” for David Cubitt which has recently been airing on Sundays at 8 AM CST with a repeat of the same episode at 12 Noon. For some peculiar reason, there was one or two Sundays where they only aired it at 8 AM or 12 Noon with no repeat. IMDB will list programs airing in the current week, but it is not 100% accurate either.

You can also catch David Cuibtt in a very early stint in an X-Files Episode that will air this Friday, December 7 at 5 PM and I believe that is Eastern time. The name of the episode is “Dod Kalm” - you must look quickly because David is on one of the very first scenes and VERY young and had very long hair (as in combed back) very wavy. He appears later in the ep, but he is made up to have aged rapidly so it’s difficult to even tell it is him - even his voice is difficult to hear because of the advance aging - but you can still see his beautiful hair! He is one lucky man in the hair department! I bet tons of men are jealous of his beautiful, full, thick hair!

    Betty,
Sounds like December is his month! I’ve had the Sleuth channel on a few times recently, but I haven’t seen Turks yet. I’ll have to try to catch it.

Katelyn, I think “Turks” actually started to gell toward the end of the 13 episodes and become a better series, unfortunately, that’s all she wrote for it because it was cancelled. David plays one of three sons of a career cop - he is the oldest son and a cop, married with a wife and son, one of his brothers is also a cop and his youngest brother was a college student when it started - had a gambling problem, etc. The two younger brothers are really not likeable, especially the youngest one. Kate Walsh (Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice) was in several eps, but with short blond hair - a rather asymmetrical cut. David has a really good Chicago accent. I think the way they wrote his wife in the show, she comes across as pretty self-centered and his character comes across as kind of whipped. Like I said, I think they started finding a better balance toward the end of the first 13 eps.

Don’t know if this is good or bad for Medium, but I just read on Zap2it that NBC is putting Law & Order on Wednesdays instead of Sundays in January and bringing L & O CI back from USA network to team with it on Wednesdays. Sure would be nice if they would put Medium on Mondays where it belongs instead of Sundays. Ijust don’t think it would do well in that time slot against Desperate Housewives (ABC) and Cold Case (CBS). Wonder how it would do on Fridays at 8 PM?

I know the writers and producers were supposed to resume talks today. I sure hope the talks start making some progress - I’ve read a couple of reports that didn’t sound like much had been accomplished so far - just rehasing the same crappy offer they made before.

I read where as it stands now, 50% of NBC’s Spring schedule is going to be Reality programming - such classics as American Gladiator and of course Celebrity Apprentice - NBC and Donald Trump just won’t let this show die the natural death it is long overdue for.

Katelyn, I’m stuck in the spam filter. Why is it that someone like me who is a regular poster here gets stuck in the spam filter, yet the garbage posts get put up without a problem?

    Betty,
I have no idea. I even get stuck once in awhile! The spam filter is supposed to be trainable, but I think it is like a tiny dog on rainy days - it still has accidents sometimes.

Betty, I read the same thing about the L&O shows. I also read that NBC was scheduling one hour per night of reality television and backing it up with scripted shows. I was worried when I heard that NBC was putting American Gladiators on Sundays, but that’s just the premiere, then it will move to Mondays. And now that they’ve moved both L&O shows to Wednesday, and Lipstick Jungle to Thursdays at 10, I wonder what will happen to Medium. Maybe they will move it to Mondays, if they have no new episodes of Life or Heroes. Otherwise, it will still be up against DH, which has reportedly been struggling this season. I’m still hopeful that this unscheduled hiatus for the other shows will be a boost for Medium with so few new scripted shows on tv. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Dawn, actually DH has enjoyed renewed enthusiasm among viewers and critics alike this season with some of its strongest ratings ever. I have enjoyed DH since it began, so I don’t share the view that it had a real slump but that said, I think the writing has been better this year and they actually seem to be doing a better job of incorporating the new characters into the storyline to interact with the main characters. Previously, the didn’t weave those storylines as well as the are doing this year.

I would be great to have Medium back on Monday. I’d just be happy if they actually promoted it and created some buzz for it. Personally, I think NBC needs to let L & O retire already. L & O CI still has life to it with Chris Noth and Vincent Donofrio sharing the lead. I’m ready for The Donald to get off TV already!

Katelyn, for some reason, I’m not receiving the comments from this thread even though I’m subscribed to it - I received a couple, but the last two days they have not been coming to me.

Anyway, let’s keep praying that since the writers and producers are talking, they will come to an agreement soon - pray both sides have the good sense to compromise and come to a fair agreement so everyone can get back to work and have a terrific holiday season!

And I’ve been getting notices twice about stuff. I think the increased traffic is making the web world act wonky.
