A Year In The Life Of ‘Medium’: 2006

2006 was a crazy year for Medium. The show was renewed for a third season. Yay! Then it was pushed back to mid-season. Boo! Then it was brought back early. Yay! It was a roller coaster ride for sure. Here are the highlights:

JANUARY

New Episodes:

• Method to His Madness - Allison channels a serial killer
• Doctor’s Order’s - Dr. Charles Walker returns and pesters Ariel
• Raising Cain - Allison helps rescue a child but worries he will become an evil adult

News & Gossip:

• NBC’s VP of programming will not commit to renewing Medium for a third season but says he thinks it will happen

FEBRUARY

New Episodes:

• A Changed Man - Allison gets a concussion
• Sweet Child O’ Mine - Allison helps a teenage boy who reminds her of her dead son

MARCH

New Episodes:

• Allison Wonderland - David Carradine guest stars as a spook
• Lucky in Love - Allison’s brother Michael gets a girlfriend

News & Gossip:

• Medium cast and producers do a public meet-and-greet
• David Cubitt turns 41 (March 18, 1965)
• Jake Weber turns 42 (March 19, 1964)

APRIL

New Episodes:

• S.O.S. - Allison hunts a serial killer who can sense when women are alone and vulnerable
• Knowing Her - Scanlon’s past comes back to haunt him

News & Gossip:

• Patricia Arquette turns 38 (April 8, 1968)

MAY

New Episodes:

• The Darkness is Light Enough - Molly Ringwald guest stars as a blind woman with a kissing burglar problem
• Death Takes a Policy - Kelsey Grammer guest stars as Death
• Twice Upon a Time - Allison gets a lifetime do-over

News & Gossip:

• NBC finally announces Medium has been renewed for a third season to begin in September
• Ten days later NBC announces it has benched Medium until midseason
• Maria Lark guests on The View and Leno and charms America

JUNE

News & Gossip:

• Patricia Arquette marries Thomas Jane
• Season One released on DVD
• Maria Lark turns 9 (June 20, 1997)

JULY

July is barren of Medium news, gossip, and new episodes. Oh the tragedy of it all!

AUGUST

News & Gossip:

• Patricia Arquette confesses she was abused by her violent mother

SEPTEMBER

News & Gossip:

• Sheila (that would be me) takes over the Medium Dreams blog
• I finally get around to reviewing Don’t Kiss Them Goodbye written by the real Allison DuBois in 2005
• NBC announces Medium to return after Football, which means January 2007

OCTOBER

News & Gossip:

• NBC announces Medium returns November 15th, changing it time slot from Mondays to Wednesdays at 10PM
• Season Two released on DVD
• Patricia Arquette wows the crowd with what we have officially dubbed The Boob Dress
• NBC announces a time change for the November 15 premiere episode to 9PM to accommodate the two-hour show
• Sofia Vassilieva turns 14 (October 22, 1992)
• Patricia Arquette says pushing the show to midseason was no big deal (meanwhile fans have been freaking out for six months)
• NBC throws a party for Medium now that it has a definite premiere date

NOVEMBER

New Episodes:

• Four Dreams - The ghost of Allison’s old boyfriend comes to stay while Bridgette experiences disturbing cartoon dreams
• Be Kind, Rewind - Allison relives the same horrific day over and over again
• Blood Relations - Dr. Charles Walker returns (again!) and we meet his descendant, who looks just like him

News & Gossip:

• I receive an invitation to visit the set of Medium - SQUEEE!
• Patricia Arquette’s new short hairdo causes a furor (The furor actually happened way back after Season Two wrapped, but the media didn’t get wind of it until November.)
• Season Three premieres with a groundbreaking episode
• Miguel Sandoval turns 55 (November 16, 1951)

DECEMBER

New Episodes:

• Ghost in the Machine - Allison sees images of a murder in a camcorder
• Profiles in Terror - Allison butts heads with an FBI Criminal Profiler

News & Gossip:

• Creator and executive producer Glenn Gordon Caron marries Tina DiJoseph, and the wails of Medium fans who realize they will never get rid of the wooden actress who plays Deputy Mayor Lynn DiNovi now can be heard for miles
• I review the real Allison DuBois’ second book We Are Their Heaven, issued May 2006
• Patricia Arquette is nominated for a Best Actress Golden Globe for her role as Allison DuBois on Medium

Which brings us to today, barely ten days before the end of the year. What will 2007 hold for Medium? I do not know but I can tell you this: I will be here cheerleading as long as it is on the air. It is an excellent show with ridiculously talented actors and writing that blows me away while simultaneously cracking me up every week.

Life is short. Take your pleasures where you find them. And speaking of pleasures, gentle Medium fan, what did you enjoy about the show in 2006?
