Medium Dreams

Before Medium, There Was Tru Calling

by Katelyn on August 2nd, 2007

I thought it would be fun to take a trip down memory lane today. Remember this show? Tru Calling was only on for one and a half seasons, but it was good while it lasted. Tru works in a morgue and dead people ask her to help them. She wakes up back at the start of the morning and races against time to save their lives.

8 opinions for Before Medium, There Was Tru Calling

It’s funny that you mentioned that, Katelyn. We were having a discussion about that show just recently on the Medium board at imdb. Someone claimed that Medium was a ripoff of Tru Calling, which we all know is a bunch of hooey. That person was quickly set straight, because they obviously knew nothing about Medium and when the posters at imdb told them that Medium was based on a real person and not on that show, they quickly changed their tune and haven’t been heard from again.

Granted, there are similarities between the two, but they are vastly different as well. Tru Calling was an okay show. I tried to watch it for a while because I liked Eliza Dushku, but it just couldn’t hold my interest for very long.

And another interesting thing. Did you know that Jason Priestley, who played Walter Paxton, was a regular on Tru Calling near the end of its run? I think he was supposed to be the saviour of the show, but it was beyond help by the time he came on. It wasn’t a bad show, but it just wasn’t buzzworthy to build a core audience. Still, not a great loss for television, though.

I’ll have to stop by the imdb board and check out the discussion. I came across the video when I was trying to find one of the Medium episodes to screen cap, which is way easier when it is already online. I thought, “Hey, I remember that show!”

I never caught this show when it was on television, but I just watched the episode posted above and I kinda liked it. Maybe I’ll try to find some more episodes. Thanks for posting this!

You know, as I was channel surfing the other day, lo and behold, Sci Fi channel had Tru Calling on! I’m not sure if they are showing the entire run of the series, but I would imagine they are. If you liked it, check out the Sci Fi channel.

    Betty,
Isn’t that funny? I saw it, too. I jumped up and said, “Oooh, look, I just blogged about it and it is on!” and then my nephew looked at me and said, “Is it a boring big person show?” I ended up watching Wonder Pets or one of those other kids shows that kind of run together instead…

    Katelyn! Maybe you ARE psychic!

It popped in your mind for a reason! Before long you could go on the Montel Williams show and charge folks $750 a pop for a reading! Ha!

Except I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night and the sleep deprivation would ruin my enjoyment of the money!
