Comparing Medium to CSI
We thought it would be fun to take a look at how Allison DuBois from Medium and Gil Grissom from CSI act and think. Imagine if Allison was dropped in a CSI crime scene or if Grissom was forced to work with Allison to solve a crime? They would drive each other nuts! Here’s why:
* Allison has a dream that shows her where to find a piece of key evidence, while Grissom does a painstaking examination of the crime scene and finds key evidence.
* Allison’s family is the center of her life, while Grissom is married to the job to the point that he loses his romantic interest, Sara.
* Allison doesn’t care whether there is evidence or not. She dreams about a criminal and demands that he or she be arrested. Grissom painstakingly gathers every piece of evidence available and looks at it to see if it reveals the culprit before he gets his man. Can you imagine Grissom going to the D.A. and saying, “Hey, I dreamed that this guy killed a kid and we need to arrest him now?”
Of course, there are also some reasons they’d get along just fine. Grissom would probably remind Allison quite a bit of Joe, her wise cracking, scientific husband. If you’ve watched Medium at all, you know Joe would be right at home yelling, “Assholes” at the corpses that frightened a new hire or informing people that, “By law, you’ve got to disclose everything: three bedrooms, two baths and a skeleton.” on a home that is for sale. She’d also appreciate his passion for solving a crime and getting justice for the victim.
And Grissom would probably enjoy working with Allison sometimes just for the view. After all, he is the man who told Catherine Willows, “I did miss you. I missed your passion and your tenacity. I even missed your tush.” Also, he would probably approve of the way Allison doesn’t back down when she thinks she is right, even if he would be very annoyed that the reason she thinks she is right is because she had a dream.

I just love Grissom! Grissom doesn’t need any stinking evidence! He will let the body “talk” to him. He will INSIST there is a scientific and/or logical explanation for Allison’s dreams. He believes completely in the “system”. Allison believes in the system as well, even if that means a man who was wrongly convicted of a crime was sent to jail for it, he SHOULD be released even though he was guilty of another crime he wasn’t tried for - Medium Ep “In the Rough” first season. Ha Ha! the last laugh was on him because at the press conference where he was released, Scanlon got to arrest him for the murder of the little girl after all because Allison helped him find her body!
Remember the CSI episode where this woman was found dead in her home and she looked a lot like Sara - a man who had been at her home was later found in pieces in various garbage cans of her neighbors. They were certain this particular doctor was the culprit, but couldn’t put together enough concrete evidence to charge him - Grissom was reflecting on the life he had lead and the kind of life this doctor must have lead to that point, and talked about how they had let work consume much of their lives and then one day when they thought they might like a little companionship, it was too late? Of course, that was before the writers dreamed up this fling with Sara.
Grissom gets frustrated, too. He lets it out on the roller coasters he rides all across the country. Remember how he was so excited once about the cockroaches races? I bet Bridgette would LOVE Grissom!

Nice comparison piece Katelyn. I used to watch CSI solely to gawk over Gary Dourdan. Can’t really say I loved the show, but I’m glad it has lasted this long-it’s a great crime show. I enjoyed Betty’s observations and will check back to see what others had to say.

Wow, we thought sparks flew between Scanlon and Allison when they first met. (Remember Scanlon’s nicknames for her when they first met?!! Lol! I loved that!) (Katelyn- trivia question- hint-hint)
I bet it would be hilarious to see Al and Grissom go head-to-head, lol. THAT would be a sight to see.
