Medium Dreams

Dead Zone Open Mic

by Katelyn on June 17th, 2007

The new season of Dead Zone starts tonight at 10/9 central. I thought it would be fun to watch the show and talk about how it compares to Medium - how Allison would have done things differently, how their gifts affect them, etc. Anyone game?

I have a ton of fruit, so I think fruit salad (with whipped cream on top, of course.) is a good choice for tonight. I also ran up to our local dairy farm, which makes the most fabulous ice cream and bought a few gallons. Chocolate caramal, rasberry chocolate cheese cake and cow chip cookie dough are the flavors I picked up. I also have homemade waffle cones and an assortment of toppings.

Of course, we’ll have drinks, too - the Corpse Reviver, which is brandy, apple brandy, and sweet vermouth and rootbeer floats.

WARNING:

I got carried away. If you read the comments, you will be reading Dead Zone spoilers!

17 opinions for Dead Zone Open Mic

That sounds interesting, Katelyn. I haven’t watched that show in a long time, but if I’m around, I might drop by. Those snacks sound great too.

A baby and a funeral? And that’s just the first few seconds. Ok, John is able to wander around through the visions, while Allison can only see what her dream shows her.

Oh, and Allison dreams and wakes up to go through the day more or less normally. John’s visions are triggered by touch and can happen anywhere, anytime. Very inconvenient.

Wow, heavy, serious conversations going on here and very Biblical debates.

So, he tries to alter the future he sees in those visions. Handy friend to have around!

But it doesn’t always work. He saved Walt’s life and the vision shows that Walt is still going to die.

By the way, there is some family interaction here, but the family seems to be clearly a supporting cast. Maybe it is just this episode? Anyway, the witty, fun banter between Allison and her husband is so great that it would take some exceptional script writers to beat that.

Ah, that’s more like it. A serious family discussion.

Wow, that’s a switch. The same funeral, but a different dead guy. Now what?

And you warn Walt about the other guy’s impending death? What were you thinking? I bet you put Walt back in danger.

Walt’s dead? Say it isn’t so. I was really starting to like him.

The vice president seems very sinister and black hat.

And now we know how Walt died. Wow, I didn’t see that coming!

Ok, my final conclusion? Allison feels for the victims, probably too much for her own good. She shows how much she cares. It is almost like John is on the outside of life looking in. He does care, but he doesn’t seem to feel as deeply. I guess because he missed so much of life during his coma?

Ok, maybe not where Walt and Sarah are concerned. John cares deeply about what happens to them. He just shows it differently than Allison does.

If you are on Central time, it is safe to start reading here. I’m calling it a night, but feel free to jump in!

Sorry you were alone with lurkers I guess. I have never watched Dead Zone - maybe I’ll give it a try since you are discussing it here.

Speaking of comparing show to Medium, have you ever noticed how on Ghost Whisperer the ghosts are always angry? On Medium, the ghosts aren’t angry and causing problems, they just want justice for their deaths.

I cannot stand to watch GW regularly, I’ve just tuned in occasionally to see what it was about and it just makes me crazy!

Yes, I have noticed that the ghosts seem pretty cranky. We’ll have to have open mics for Ghost Whisperer, too and spend a lot of time saying things like “Lighten up, already!”
