Episode Recap: Twice Upon a Time *Season Finale*
Wow, that was a crazy episode of Medium. Did all of you follow that plot? Seems like a fishy dream to me. I was hoping that they were starting all over for next season with Allison leaving her husband Johnny Denim for her new lover Joe DuBois. Oh well. It turned out to be more conventional than that. So why the old flame connection? I don’t get it! If you liked the music from this week’s episode, check out the Dixie Chicks new album Taking The Long Way. Let the recap commence!
Episode Recap: Twice Upon a Time *Season Finale*
Allison is laying on grass with her eyes closed…She opens her eyes then walks into a house where an old woman is sleeping. She sits by her and wakes her up calling her grandma. The woman is really excited to see her all grown up. She says everything is just the way she remembered. The grandma says you look real good and happy, she says she’s happy…She asks how’s John, your husband, the love of your life. Then it starts to rain and the grandma gets up to go to the window and says the two of you should have been back hours ago…she realizes she’s dreaming and the grandma is telling her she has to go…
Then she wakes up and tells Joe about it. She says maybe I should have married Johnny Denim…She asks if he’s jealous. Ariel comes in to ask who’s going to drive her. Allison says she’ll drop them off on her way to work. Then it starts raining and she starts to remember something from the day she burned herself and then she notices it’s no longer there. Joe says must be like Johnny Denim, must have just faded away…
Allison is talking with Devalos about members of the jury in a murder case. Then Ariel calls Allison on her cell and says she forgot her school project in her car; she says she’ll be there to drop it off in a half an hour.
Devalos is talking to a courtroom about a young woman becoming sexually abused and being threatened with deportation… “Mr. Redburn murdered Ms. Mescino and hid her body.” He says that just because there’s no corpse doesn’t mean there’s no evidence, it just means he knew what he was doing. He says they can right this wrong by giving her justice. Then the other lawyer gets up and says that he’s surprised by Devalos bringing this case to trial because there was no body. He says it makes him angry that they spend taxpayers’ money for the trial when they don’t know if she’s still alive. He thinks she might have just left and then he says that he tried to find her. Then he presents a woman who walks into the room who apparently is the murdered woman.
Allison is shocked that she’s still alive. Devalos is pissed off because they got it wrong. Apparently Allison thought she was dreaming about the girl being dead. Devalos tells Allison that people are starting to suspect that he has a psychic on his payrole. They’re going to reopen every case because they think that Allison screwed things up. He says that he’s going to lose his job and that Allison and his professional relationship is over.
Allison comes home crying. Joe says that the phone keeps ringing and then Ariel says that they’re making fun of her on TV. Then Bridgette says there are people on the front lawn. Cut to Allison crying in bed with the phone still ringing. Joe says they’ll figure it all out. Allison feels stupid for not drinking her way to a really great life as a lawyer. Joe says that he’s going to check on the kids and if she wants him to bring her a bottle of gin with a nipple on it, she should just holler.
Allison is dreaming. She’s waking up to Johnny Denim kissing her and saying this is why we’re never going to have children…
Allison is in a really nice house listening to happy music. She brings Johnny some coffee and tells him that she had the strangest dream that they had kids and he was going to get her gin. He said ok…
Then in the bathroom he’s shaving. They’re talking about a trial she’s working on…the Redburn trial. Allison walks into Devalos’ office and introduces herself as Allison Denim. They’re arguing…she says that he only has weak evidence and that’s why he called…she says you don’t even have a body. He says they have a murder weapon. He offers manslaughter…
Allison is having lunch with the evil lawyer from earlier and they’re talking shop then Denim shows up. They’re having a conversation about her wanting children. He asks how long they’ve been married…. She says they were child hood sweethearts, it was very boring…then the guy says no it was fate according to your grandmother…they talk about how she was eccentric. Maybe she was psychic like Allison?
Then at the office she was supposed to have an appointment and it turned out to be Joe who was under her desk fixing her computer.
My husband thinks that the whole original trial (not in Allison denim’s alternate universe) was a big setup to get Devalos out of office. What do you think?
Allison asks Joe if he familiar about the case. He says he saw the case on the news. Joe says he’s not married…she says she should try it sometime, I highly recommend it and he says well you see all the cool chicks are taken. He’s taken with Allison…hehe. She starts going through a math problem she needs help with. She wants to know what percent of the population has O+ blood. She wants him to testify for lots of money and that the firm will cover his expenses. He says what expenses, she says a new suit. She knows how old it is…He thinks she was spying on him…Allison ups the amount to $3000. Joe is skeptical of Allison’s claims that the knife was not the one used in the murder. When he asks why the police think that this was the murder weapons, Allison says that one knife was missing from their set. He asks he what she thinks about that, she doesn’t answer really. And then says I think you need the money…
She’s reading Joe’s book in bed
She’s dreaming about Redburn wiping down the floor soaked in blood while a woman screams in a plastic bag…she wakes up nervous and scared.
Allison is talking to her husband about the dream. He looks at her like she’s crazy and calls her foolish and says that great lawyers won’t use dreams to help their clients. She asks why would this dream come into my head.
The evil lawyer is looking at porn when Allison walks in. She says she hopes she’s not interrupting anything and asks if he wants to meet their expert witness, Joe.
She walks off and hears them saying that they want the pornstar to pretend to be the victim because if she’ll do this for money….
Allison is practicing for the trial with Joe. Joe says that he doesn’t believe what he’s saying. Allison says she’s confused; they were his calculations. He says that he thinks the knife belongs to the murderer and he thinks she believes it too. He tells her to trust her instincts. She asks why he even bothered coming back. He looks at her with puppy dog eyes and she says she’s a married women. He says there you go all the cool girls are taken and leaves saying I’m sorry I couldn’t be of any help.
Allison calls her husband crying. She says she wants him to tell her that her dreams and intuition count for something and she should listen to them. He yells at her for interrupting his important business meeting and she should do her job and they’ll talk when she gets home. He asks are we through? She says yes we’re through and runs out in the rain to Joe’s place.
When she arrives, she asks him, “What am I thinking?” She says, “You’re right, I know he’s guilty.” She says I know nothing about math but I read your book and I know everything. She left his number at the office but still somehow managed to find his house and it’s all familiar. She says her instincts tell her that she should be there with him. He stares blankly and she says just forget the last 5 minutes of your life and walks off…he walks after her a kisses her passionately…
Allison wakes up in her real bed smiling with a pretty Dixie Chicks song playing then it shuts off abruptly and Allison says she has to leave because of her husband. Joe looks confused then the kids run in and Ariel asks about needing a ride. Now Alison realizes she’s returned to reality and happily hugs her kids.
Allison comes into Devalos’ office and says she has a lot to tell him before he goes into trial. Then at the trial the evil lawyer is giving the same speech from earlier. He says you’ll never guess what I found and nothing… He says it again and the same guy who was showing him the porn walks in. They ask for a short recess. He asks what the hell happened. Devalos says we need to talk. He’s showing him the porn of the dead girl and her twin sister making out. Mirabella was being detained for trying to use her sister’s papers to enter the country. Devalos and Allison continue bating him, knowing exactly what he was trying to do but having no conclusive proof. But say that it was lucky for them that she didn’t end up at the court because it could have lead to the dismissal of the case.
Allison runs in the rain to her grandma’s place and tells her that she likes the scar and would miss it if it were gone and loves her life and wouldn’t change a thing. The grandma laughs and says if you’re sure. She says, “Yes, I’m sure,” and wakes up snuggling Joe.

There was another song being played while Allison was in her alt. world (other house, husband, etc.) do you by chance know anything about it? Very upbeat, lots of “whew-who’s”, played while we were being shown the life that could have been. Just to clarify it is not the Dixie chick’s song lullabye. Would appreciate any info you have… Thanks!
