Ghost Stories

by Katelyn on July 22nd, 2007

spooky catHave you had a spooky experience? I thought it might be fun to share some ghost stories while we wait for the Emmy awards. Here’s mine:

We bought a house built in 1900 and it had all kinds of history, including bootleggers and the FBI shooting it out during Prohibition. However, it was a happy, peaceful place, despite some odd things that happened. I didn’t believe in ghosts, but I saw something with a long fluffy tail streak past me into my bedroom quite a few times. I’d insist that everyone drop what they were doing and help me find the cat that just ran by. After the first few times, they just rolled their eyes. I saw that cat run into my room about 40 times over 12 years. When I moved up to the attic bedroom after my oldest brother moved out, I stopped seeing it. However, my sister, who took over my room, saw the same streak with a long fluffy tail several times after that.

So, do you have a ghostly tale to share? Something unexplainable that happened to you? It will give us fodder for campfire stories, if nothing else!

OMG! I was sitting in my living room one evening watching TV. I started hearing this music playing and was trying to figure it out because it was music that didn’t seem to go with the commerical that was on. I live alone (if you don’t count the cat and dogs). Then I thought it sure was an odd time for an ice cream truck, but still the music persisted, and even seemed to get louder. I live by a school and sometimes when there are events going on the speakers are set so loud I can hear things clearly in my house, but nothing was going on that I knew of.

The music continued, so I got up to walk around to see if I could pinpoint where it was coming from. It appeared to be coming from my bedroom! I crept up to the door and slowly opened it and sure enough the music got louder still. I was a little afraid since I was alone in the house, or at least thought I was alone. After carefully looking around, I realized the music was coming from a jewelry box in my room - you know the kind that has three drawers and the bottom drawer is smaller because the music mechanism is behind the drawer. You wind it up and whenever the bottom drawer is pulled out, the music plays for so long until it unwinds. This is an old jewelry box that I never use any more - I only had a few pieces of junk jewelry in it. When I looked at it, the bottom drawer was pulled out and the music kept playing - keep in mind these only play for a short time before having to be re-wound and by know it had been going on for some time! Imagine my shock finding the jewelry box I can’t even remember the last time I used it or even moved it having the bottom drawer pulled out and playing away!

I looked under beds and behind doors and called my adopted son (long story) to come and go through the house with me! I could find no explanation on how the drawer could have come open by itself (this was actually before I had the cat). I let the dog in the house because he would surely bark if anyone was there. Didn’t bark at anything.

My house was built in the 30’s and I believe the woman of the house had died in it a few years before I bought it. No other colorful history that I know of, unlike Katelyn’s former home.

Recently I had a picture end up on the floor which is no big deal except it was in a certain place and if it fell down, there was no way it would have gotten to where it was - it was simply too far from where it had been.

Over the years I have had a few things happen - be moved or lights turned on that I was sure had been turned off. The music box freaked me out the most!

Well, I’m still coming out of being a teenager, but I still have some experiences which I cannot feel if it was paranormal, or what I wanted too see. The first time I’ve ever had anything happen was when I had a dream about playing a game with my cousin and my sister. It was a pretty idiotic dream, but for some reason I remembered it. So, I was over at my cousins house the next day (It was the weekend) and we always went over on Saturdays, slept over, and came back home on Sundays. So, it was later that evening, and we were in the same exact spot. When I had my dream, though, the way I was positioned was it was like… I saw myself, and it was like watching a movie. I asked my sister, “Didn’t we already play this game?” because I got confused, but my sister said no. It was pretty weird. That was the only weird paranormal thing I’ve had happen until my dog died. I was sitting there in the living room with my little sister at our house, reading a book. My dog always loved sitting under the coffee table and lick his paws. When I was at his funeral, though, I didn’t cry or anything. I just didn’t feel like crying, it was like it had no effect. So, anyways, because of me not crying, I thought something was wrong with me, like I liked the fact my dog died — But I knew that wasn’t the case. I was 8, too, and I was practically a loner, so when my dog died, it was like losing a best friend but I felt no connection. So, anyways, back to that evening, I was sitting there with my little sister and I heard something that sounded like my dog. I looked up and my sister didn’t even move, so I looked under and I could have sworn I heard my dog licking his paws underneath the coffee table. There was nothing there, though.

Another time that year was when my Grandfather died. I had no relationship with my grandfather, since he was bitter and distanced himself from the rest of the family. He died from Lung Cancer, and again, I had no need to cry. About a month later, I had a dream of him sitting in his hospital bed, smiling at me, and it was like he was about to give me a hug. I woke up, and I was crying, even though I felt my grandfather was just a stranger.

So, I do not believe in psychic things or anything,
but I can’t deny I feel like sometimes I have these weird intuitions and stuff. It’s like, yesterday, I was with my friend and he was showing a card trick to a girl. He made her pick a card, and he would guess what it is. I didn’t see it at all, I was standing behind my friend. In my head, it was like I told myself “Hearts!”. I was like, ok, this card has got to be hearts. I then realized I might have been getting something, so I thought about it, but the feeling of knowing the card stopped. All I knew was the card was hearts and the number was low, when my friend had the ‘connection with her mind’, he knew the card, but because it was a card trick, he had already known and it was just for show. The card ended up being the 2 of hearts. I was pretty freaked out over a very menial thing, that would have no effect on me whatsoever. But I think it was just a guess and it’s just my imagination running off, I really don’t know what to make of it. Email me if you have ever gotten these feelings, because I want to know what it’s like for perhaps a real psychic to feel.

Ok, the last story I have for you guys. It’s short, since it didn’t happen too me, but my older sister. She is more like a rebellious teenager (Drugs, drinking, clubbing… the scary stuff) and my parents can’t stop her, but my sister is also hanging out with a lot of gang related people, so when she told me this I was totally blown away. My sister was sleeping in my parents bed yesterday, and she told me she kept waking up. She kept waking up because of a dream she has had. She said she saw my mom getting killed, and she would wake up crying. This happened 3 times, and she was so shook up that she phoned my mom seeing if she was OK. Of course, my Mom was ok, but I don’t know what too make of this either. All I could think of, though, was The Medium and how Allison would always have those dreams telling her something was going to happen. I hope it was just a random dream my sister had!

    Betty,
That is kind of creepy. I think I’d be turned off music for a bit.
    Luke,
I certainly hope it was just a dream, but remember that dreams aren’t always straightforward, either.
