Happy Birthday David Cubitt!
Actor David Cubitt turns 42 today.
David was born March 18, 1965, in London, England, to his Dutch mother, Yeta, and British father, David Sr., but he really hails from Vancouver, BC, Canada, where the family moved when he was a wee six months old.
IMDb reports his first role was in 1987 on the American television series 21 Jump Street as “man in restaurant.” But IMDb is wrong. He was hired as a comedy skit actor in 1985 on the Vancouver-produced Nitevision. Before that, he did a documentary and a few childhood commercials.
Since then, he has been all over US and Canadian TV, as well as high-profile movies like K2 (1992), Alive (1993), and Ali (2001). But of course he is best known to Medium fans as hunky, flawed, tough, endearing Detective Lee Scanlon. Women want him. Men want to be him.
In a 2001 interview, David said “I don’t like Hollywood and everything that it connotes. Humanity gets compromised in Hollywood for the sake of ambition.” I wonder what he would say today, now that he is back in Hollywood doing a weekly TV series. I bet he still hates it, but has learned to work with it. That must be exhausting.
In celebration of his birthday, I offer this toast:
To David Cubitt, a man of principle: may you never have to compromise your humanity for your craft. And may you beat the pants off anyone foolish enough to challenge you to a game of ping-pong. Happy Birthday.

Maybe because this was David Cubitt’s birthday weekend, but he was all over the tube! Saturday Sleuth TV had a mini marathon of Turks and aired an addtional episode on Sunday. Saturday night Lifetime TV had Medium - Be Kind Rewind, and Saturday and Sunday the Sci Fi channel had 10.5 - which is a dreadful disaster epic, but hey, I’ll watch anything to see David Cubitt! Sunday afternoon, Lifetime TV played, “To Love Honor and Deceive” in which David played a bad guy. It’s unsual for him, but I really didn’t see any chemistry between David and Crystal Bernard his co-star. I know it’s wrong, but I was rooting for him to get away with the crime. He’s much to pretty to go to jail!
That was a nice birthday present for him to have a weekend full of David Cubitt movies and TV series!
