How Thomas Jane Saved The Day, er…Night
The Envelope did a roundup of what their forum posters were saying about the SAG awards. In it, poster Michael W Anderson says:
- I noticed that Thomas Jane was peeved Patricia Arquette did not win, she was kissing him and trying to talk to him to shush him . . . it was hysterical.
I don’t know what I would in that situation. Do you give a hug and kiss in commiseration? Do you madly clap for the winner, pretending you both really wanted her to win instead all along? Or do you proclaim it a farce, thus distracting your partner so she is involved trying to calm you down when the Loser Cam turns its inescapable eye her way?
Hm, that is rather a good idea, isn’t it?
What would you do?

Good Sportsmanship requires you to paste on that Stepford Smile and clap politely and if anyone asks you to acknowledge, you are, of course, disappointed, but naturally have the utmost respect for the person who did win and mumble something about what a talented field you are nominated in and, of course, it’s an honor just to be nominated!
Kelly Ripa has joked for years since she and Regis are nominated for talk show, but always lose to single host formats, that just once she would like to stand up, throw something down, and stomp out!

Betty: Apparently Kathy Griffin did that as a joke when her reality show lost at one of the earlier awards shows and it was NOT well received. She said the people sitting near her thought it was funny but the rest of the giant auditorium (and the people who ran the awards show) were not amused. Heh.

I didn’t notice that until I watched it again and it was really kind of funny watching her try to shush him. I have to say this about Patricia though. She is one classy lady. Her reaction to Chandra Wilson’s win seemed genuine and she really seemed thrilled for her to have won, despite the fact that she beat her. If it wasn’t real, then she REALLY deserved that award, because she sold it very well.
