Medium Dreams

How to Watch Medium - Meet the Cast

by Katelyn on February 9th, 2008

With Medium being one of the few shows with new episodes at the moment, we may be picking up a lot of new viewers. I thought it would be nice to give them a bit of a heads up on how to watch Medium.

We’ll start with the cast:

Patricia ArquettePatricia Arquette - This spunky and talented woman is a major favorite of Medium Dreams readers for good reason. She plays Allison DuBois, a medium who helps catch the bad guys with her dreams. Right now, she and her family are faced with the same problem many other Americans have - she and her husband both lost their jobs and they are having a hard time making ends meet. She is freelancing and working with a PI to try to pay the bills.

Jake Weber - We love Jake because he plays Joe DuBois, a man who never gets mad about his sleep deprived state and always wakes up when Allison has a dream to make sure she is okay. He is also very funny and we spend a lot of time during open mics typing what he said in the comments. We try to avoid saying LOL, but we’re thinking it. The guy is very funny and devoted to his wife. Add the talent and good looks of Jake Weber to the mix and you’ve got a winning character.

David Cubitt - The man doesn’t have to say a word, okay? Just have him standing there in a scene and most of us feel like our day is complete. But it gets better. David Cubitt plays Lee Scanlon, the detective who does his best to help Allison figure out how her dreams tie in to whatever crime they are trying to solve. He’s not perfect - sometimes he doesn’t want anything to do with psychic stuff - but he’s pretty supportive most of the time. He even suggested that Allison call in a bomb threat so he could stop a bad guy in Season Four.

Angelica Huston - Angelica is a special guest for six episodes of Medium in Season Four and plays Cynthia Keener, a not very nice PI who is paying Allison to solve missing persons cases. Cynthia gets all the credit and looks good when she talks to her bosses at Ameritips and Allison gets some much needed cash. By the way, we’re not holding Cynthia’s nasty attitude to Allison against Angelica, who is much admired by the Medium cast and got along fabulously with them on the set.

Miguel Sandoval - Former District Attorney Devalos was Allison’s mentor during seasons one to three. However, he went down with Allison at the end of Season Three and spent a lot of time deep sea fishing and whatnot. Now, he is back in town and self employed. We’re happy to see him back, but we want him where he belongs and we hope he manages to take down his icky so called friend, the new D.A.

Tina DiJoseph - Lynn DiNovi, A.K.A. Deputy Doll, gets a lot of flak from Medium Dreams readers. This is because her character isn’t that nice and she really is usually completely overwhelmed by whoever else is in the scene. This season, we were pleasantly surprised to see that she seems to have improved her acting skills a bit and is supportive of boyfriend Lee. In fact, she uses her position of deputy mayor to pull strings and get him off of bike safety duty so he could resume his normal routine as a homicide detective.

Sofia Vassilieva - Ariel is Allison’s daughter and is showing signs of psychic ability. She is a teenager and has many sibling rivalry and teen angst moments, but also shows incredible maturity for her age when it counts. She has a strongly developed moral compass and this season, she turned down the chance to star in a show when she saw someone who would be better in the role perform. Sofia is really developing into a great actress and adds a lot to the show, whether she is playing a slightly selfish teen or showing a more compassionate and sensitive side.

Maria Lark - Bridgette is the middle DuBois child and is spunky and usually self assured. She will play happily with any child she happens across, living or ghostly. She is very inquisitive, too. It is hard having a big sister who dismisses you as a silly little sister, so she also starts a lot of sibling rivalry, but that’s how it is in families.

Madison and Miranda Carabello - These twins play the youngest DuBois daughter, Marie. There isn’t much I can tell you about Marie. She’s cute, she’s growing up and I’m sure she’ll be a much larger part of the show in future seasons!

Holliston Coleman - Holliston plays Ariel’s best friend Hannah and is getting a bit more time on camera this season, since Ariel has reached the age where she really needs a friend. Remember how no grown ups understood you and how utterly unfair and lame they were when you were 15? Hannah supports Ariel the way a true friend should, although it sometimes gets her in hot water.

Excellent idea, Katelyn, and a great introduction to the cast and their characters. Great job. I like the way you found something nice to say about ALL of the cast, lol! Just kidding. I agree with what you said about Tina. She does seem more comfortable in her role this season, and her character seems to be more likeable. As for the others, well, we love ‘em all, don’t we? And we all have our favorites for different reasons. But we all love the show for the same reasons. It’s a great show, with a fantastic cast and wonderful writers, that is sometimes scary, intense, funny, touching and heart wrenching, but always entertaining.

Hope the show does pick up lots of new fans while the other shows are in repeats, so more people will find out what we already know. THIS is quality television at its best.

Great job Katelyn! I’m not so sure if I agree with you about Tina DiJoseph improving her acting abilities any, but they have written her more supportive so far - not the usual self-centered biyatch of the first three seasons!

You did leave out one thing - the fact that David Cubitt often gets the funniest lines in the show! Ha!

Lifetime is actually showing “And then….” tonight! Can you believe it!

    Betty,
I was wondering if I should still do an open mic. It seems so soon after we just watched it. I guess I will, though. Maybe someone who missed it last time will join in.

Katelyn, YES I think you should do an Open Mic. Lots of times you notice things you missed the first time or two you watch and episode. I’ve been pretty busy lately, so I haven’t had the chance to go back and watch again. Tonight will be great!

I don’t normally have a computer to work with on the weekends, unfortunately, I have worked all this weekend getting ready for a Valentine’s Contest that the radio station is kicking off Monday. Getting ready to go home now, but in honor of an open mic night, I’ll somehow find the strength to make some Valentine’s cupcakes and I have some dark chocolate Hershey’s kisses, too. Jumbo chocolate dipped strawberries! YUM!

Okay, I have a question that we are debating on a Medium message board. After they aired the first ep this season “And Then” on January 7th, did they show a montage of clips of all the future eps for the entire season after this ep or was it just a preview for the following week’s ep? Can someone please settle this for us?? THANKS!!

Joanna, I think the reason you and so many others are confused is because they showed a preveiw of an episode with dreaded attorney Larry Watt and Miguel Sandoval in it which we all expected to be the next episode aired. However, that episode hasn’t aired yet - I believe we will finally see that episode on February 25. Everyone was confused because of that.

Huh - well, I was always under the impression that after each premiere ep for each season they alway show a montage of future eps. Then after the second episode, they just show previews for the next show. But thanks for the input.
