Maité Schwartz Gets a Job

by Katelyn on January 29th, 2008

Maite SchwartzMaité Schwartz, who appeared on Medium’s Mother’s Little Helper episode as Janet will be a regular on a new show called Quarter Life. She will play a character named Lisa. The interesting part of this news is that the press release mentions a few of her past credits and that one Medium appearance has top billing.

I guess that people in the know consider guest appearances on Medium to be an important and valuable job reference. I would love to know how many new actors have gotten a career boost from these guest episodes.

That’s interesting, Katelyn. I hadn’t thought of it that way, because a lot of the guest stars on Medium seem to be those who were once well-known but seem to have fallen off the radar, like David Keith, and Michael Gross, among others. And I’ve often wondered if this was because they couldn’t get a job elsewhere, or if Medium was simply the kind of quality television that would lure them to a guest spot. Like Anjelica Huston’s guest arc. I wonder how many other shows have tried and failed to get a big name like her on their show for more than one episode. I have a friend who says it’s because Medium is quality television, and quality attracts quality. I tend to agree with him there.
Also, look at all of the young actors who have appeared on Medium and I wonder how many have gotten a career boost because of it,like Kyle Gallner (from The Boy Next Door) and Jessie Schram (as the young Allison), and the most recent young girl to play Allison as a teen.

I’m glad to see that people in the industry do recognize that Medium is a great show, and that doing a guest spot can do nothing to hurt one’s career. I’ll have to watch for that show and see how it does. But it’s on NBC, and given their recent track record with new shows, I’m not holding my breath.

That’s great for her! I do believe actors like to do guest spots on Medium because it is a quality show with great writers and a terrifically talented cast. I saw the actor who played the druggie roommate on the season 3 ep, what was the exact title - Second Chances - was that the title where Marie has leukemia 20 years from now. Anyway, he was on CSI - actually I believe that part pre-dated Medium, but anyway he was very good on there, too. Seems like I saw him on one other show, but I forget which one. I’ve spotted a few of the people who have guested on Medium and they’ve always been first rate.

Funny thing, NBC started advertising some reality show called “The Borrowers” or something like that where teenagers or people wanting to start a family or add to their family got to “borrow” someone’s else’s kids to see how it is - anyway, it’s been pulled before it even aired in favor of another reality show, but one that is supposed to be real family friendly. All I can say is, I sure hope this strike gets over and done with soon!
