Medium Episode 4.10 "Wicked Game Part 2" Rerun

by Katelyn on May 18th, 2008

wicked game two Tonight on Lifetime, we get to watch the end of Wicked Game again. This was the episode where Cynthia Keener decides that her daughter’s murder is not going to go unpunished. I love the way Patricia Arquette displays such sorrow and empathy when she plays the scene where Allison realizes exactly what Cynthia has done. That performance should win her an Emmy, don’t you think?

I love this episode too, Katelyn And Patricia’s performance in that last scene is definitely Emmy-worthy, as is Anjelica Huston’s. There’s just one problem, though.

    Patricia didn’t submit that episode!

Darnit! Anjelica did, but Patricia chose to submit “Aftertaste” instead (don’t ask me!).
I have NO idea what she was thinking. She has lots better stuff to submit, so why she chose that one is beyond me. She has until the 31st to change her submission, and I really hope she does. She should submit this ep, or “Do You Hear What I Hear?” or maybe even “But For the Grace of God”.

    Here’s what they all submitted.

    Patricia - “Aftertaste”
Jake - “Wicked Games pt 1″
Anjelica - “Wicked Games pt 2″
Sofia - “But For the Grace of God”
    Maria - “Aftertaste”

I believe that for Drama Series, they submitted “Aftertaste” or “Wicked Games” or both. I still don’t get why they chose “Aftertaste” for anything. That was a good episode, but not one of the strongest ones of the season by far.
Otherwise, I think that everyone nailed their submissions except Patricia. What do you think?

I wonder why David doesn’t submit something? I think he’s very deserving of a Best Supporting Actor nod, after all, who gives us such terrific comedic moments to balance the blood and death? His timing is always spot on. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of any real dramtic stuff for him this year - of course, it was a weird year with the writer’s strike and the shortened season. At least we did get to see him plenty for a change this season and I think only one episode he wasn’t in at all.

As far as the Emmy worthiness of the eps, perhaps, for Patricia, the one she selected, was difficult for her and she felt she stretched a lot to do it? I’ve been too busy with work to go back and watch the eps a few times like I usually do, so I really can’t comment on whether I think each actor submitted what I feel is Emmy worthy. Personally, I think it should be the whole body of work and not just one episode.

Last year or the year before, all of the daytime emmy nominees submitted crying scenes - each clip showed buckets of tears - it almost became cliche by the end of the show! There’s got to be more substance to be deserving of an Emmy.

I am watching ‘aftertaste’ again tonight, and will comment on what I think. I am sure Patricia has many good reasons to sue that ep….I know Al is very conflicted in that…..or maybe she knows it will stand out, as with alst year, because of the pace and subject matter (war, cannibalism). I remember her being very strong and pushing for the truth int hat ep….
Actors don;t often change their eps unless they get bad feedback from everyone…or maybe she just doesn’t want to be nominated and give the spotlight to Houston???

    MWA,
I’m sure she must have a good reason for choosing that ep, and I can see why the producers would choose it to submit it for Drama Series, but I just don’t see it for her Lead Actress submission. I doubt that she is intentionally trying to avoid a nomination so that Anjelica can have the spotlight. If that were the case, she could withdraw herself from consideration, like Candice Bergen. Maybe they’re thinking that since Gregory Itzin is also submitted for that ep, that the combined submissions will push them over the top for nominations.
Who knows? Maybe this is the year that Medium finally gets a Drama Series nod.
    Stranger things have happened.

I rewatched the ep last night….

Here are my theories/theory on Arquette’s tape “Aftertaste”:

    1. Arquette is helping out her fellow actors, plain and simple. Maria Lark submitted this for supporting actress, and Gregory Itzin submitted this for guest actor. Arquette certainly knows, or has been advised, she makes the top ten each year (and has been nominated and won one year), and this year will be no different. She also should know that Lark and Itzin do not ahve much chance of making the top ten in their catagories, therefore their tapes will never be seen. By Arquette submitting “Aftertaste”, their work will certainly be seen by the Emmy panels/judges, which will help them.
    2. Miguel Sandoval (DA Devalos) directed the episode. Arquette may also be playing charity work with him, giving him some exposure to the judges/panel for his directing work.

After watching the episode itself, I can really only see 2 or 3 scenes that were standouts, but nothing Emmy worthy per say. Arquette is strong in this ep, however she does not ahve a chance to use much range or have huge impact. She has chosen dynomite Emmy tapes the past 3 years, so I am looking to my two theories….

Or, she could simply be helping out her peeps, and will change her submission before May 31????

    She really should do that….
