Medium Episode 4.15 "Being Joey Carmichael" Recaps

by Katelyn on May 10th, 2008

Kelly Preston Okay, I’m convinced. I’m using blog editing software from now on. I spent an hour writing a lovely recap post of Being Joey Carmichael directly in Wordpress on my laptop. The wireless connection had a hiccup and my post vanished, never to be read again. So, I am writing this post for the second time using Windows Live Writer.

We only have one episode to go, but I’m just glad we got a full season after all after the strike. Still, it leaves me with an empty spot on Monday nights. Any ideas for filling it? Maybe you all want to make fan fiction Medium movies for me to watch? Or maybe Rachel’s new show will be on Monday nights and we can all support another Medium fan by watching. (If you missed the comment, she is a seamstress on a new reality fashion show. It sounds fun!)

My Being Joey Carmichael Recap

This was one episode that kept me guessing. It starts with a boy being bullied because of his lunchbox. Apparently, coming to school with a little metal lunchbox makes people think you are a dork. Who knew? Well, I do remember insisting that my lunch needed to be in a paper bag when I was in school, but I think it was because I didn’t want to tote the lunchbox around all day. Most of my classmates had lunchboxes.

Then, the little boy stood up for himself by following and beating up the older boy who made fun of him. He used the lunchbox as a weapon. Wait…now I’m seeing double. That’s right, the little boy who delivered the lunchbox beating is the twin of the gentle soul who was taunted by the older kids earlier. Now, he’s in trouble with the principal and his “younger” brother wants to take the blame. Are you really the younger brother if there is a difference of under 15 minutes in age?

Fast forward to present day. Allison has a horrific dream where a man is executed by Joey Carmichael played by Miguel Ferrer. A visit to Joey shows that he could never be the killer. This man has been so badly injured that his hands are crippled and he has the mind of a child. Scanlon thinks Allison’s dream is wrong. Hey, even Allison thinks Allison’s dream is wrong after meeting this sweet man.

More dreams. Allison discovers Joey has a twin. Joey tells Allison and Scanlon that this twin has been talking with him and lives in Florida. They can’t find any sign of the brother. Allison dreams again and discovers that Joey is being possessed by his brother so that he can give him money and reassure him that he is okay. Joey’s body committed murders, but it was his tough, bad guy brother who controlled Joey’s body. Allison and brother dearest have a chat, but when the bad guy he wants punished is out on bail, he takes Joey on a little field trip to take care of the problem himself.

The other big thing going on here is that Joe is dealing with Meghan (played by Kelly Preston). Instead of being up front with Allison, he tries to take care of things on his own. Allison is acting mad all week, but Joe is oblivious until she lays him out over the lovely robe Meghan sends him. Seriously, what did he think was going to happen? Women who aren’t psychic mediums can tell when another woman is after their husband. Allison can see it in living color. Joe says his family is more important than fame and fortune and says he will give up his dream. Awww. That redeems him, don’t you think?

Other Being Joey Carmichael Recaps

Paula Paige from TV Guide has an excellent recap again. She loves the way Allison interacts with the kids in this episode.

Paul Goeble from TV Squad just couldn’t say enough nice things about this episode. He liked it. He really liked it.

And here is the NBC recap:
