Medium Episode 4.16 “Drowned World” Open Mic
Here it is. The final Medium episode of season four. Will Joe end the season unemployed and idea less? Will Devalos have his job back? Will we see Ariel in this episode? The only way to find out is to watch.
Betty mentioned that she is bringing Bud Light with Lime and has frosted/salted/frozen
beer glasses to serve it in. She also has Spinach Dip and a variety of chips to go with it.
I have Midsummernight Dreams (Vodka, Kirschwasser, Strawberry liquer, fresh strawberries and Schweppes Russchian) for the more daring Medium fans. I also have strawberry banana smoothies.
Hmm. I’m having some of Betty’s Spinach Dip, too. How do you think that will combine with strawberry flavored drinks? I think I’ll pass on my own drink and take a Bud.
With a haunted house being featured in this episode, I’m expecting some nice, creepy music.

Oooh, that Midsummer Night’s Dream sounds delish. Save one for me. I’ll throw in some chips and salsa. And then I’ll finish the evening with a smoothie. ;)
Can’t wait to see this ep. I’m dyin’ to see what happens between Joe and Meghan and Allison. And the haunted house story aounds interesting too, though I still can’t figure out what that episode title means.
I found a nice little article online today from Media Life that talks about Medium and gives them credit for being one of the only shows to actually gain viewers during the writers’ strike, and to finish the season with higher ratings than they did last year, when almost every other show is down significantly in the ratings. It’s great to see the show FINALLY getting some positive recognition from someone besides it’s fans.

See you tonight. I’m so sad that this is the last ep of the season. But we’re getting another season, yaaay! That makes it much more bearable to say goodbye for now.

Yipes. That was one creepy dream to wake up from. No wonder that woman thinks her house is haunted.

Hey Ya’ll,
I’m not feeling so well today, but I couldn’t let the last show of the season play without checking in. I gonna miss the new shows on Monday.
So far this one looks great- Devalos is back, Joe ditched Meg… keep happy thoughts.

I felt it from day one. She is a con artist.

Devalos is so cool. “I’m not sure if I can charge you with a crime at this point, but I’m damn sure going to try.”

Hi–I’m looking for information on who the guy was that played the husband of the dead woman in Episode 4.16 (”Drowned World.”) He sure looked a lot like Tom Cruise.

Hmm…
It was a nice ending… but I don’t know. I wish there would be some suspense. It seemed kind of like another episode, not much of a thrill to end it all (Even though we get another season. :) ).
I knew from a couple episodes earlier that that megan girl was going to scam him one way or another, and I kept thinking about Joe’s dream about telling Allison and that she’ll know what to do. Allison helped support Joe which was what Joe needed to get where he was, so really, Joe’s dream was right. He had to talk to Allison to convince himself, and to gain her support. It was a calm ending I guess. I liked the peace between Van Dyke and Allison. I hope there’s a bang to the premiere when it happens, to make up for the lack of suspense from the final episode! Great epi though, as usual!

I liked this episode. Not a big bang to go out on, but a solid episode. I liked that everybody got what they wanted (except Meghan, what a beeyatch). Allison and Devalos got their jobs back, Joe got a boatload for his idea, and he got another job. All’s well that ends well. I was kinda surprised at the Van Dyke story. I thought he was gonna be sneakier, but I guess when someone finds out they’re dying, they’ll probably change. It was a nice moment, even after all he put Allison through.
And Allison and Joe rockin’ the Volvo and steamin’ up the windows! Whooo!!!

Help! Our DVR ran out, and so we didn’t see the last 10 minutes!!! What happened? The last scene we saw was the father being questioned, and learning that his son had married his mistress’s daughter Kelly. What came after that? Thanks!

While i was underwhelmed by this episode being a season finale and all, I liked how a lot of story lines were tied up, working in favor of most of the characters, if not all of the characters we care about.
Devalos: back in office and no scams, etc. yay!
Allison: back to work for the DA, how will this work now that she has bene outed? next season will only tell.
Joe: Having a steady job, getting to work on his invention, and likely getting a bigger check that he did for his previous job, AND getting credit.
Meghan: I hate to say it, but she got what she wanted too, a huge pay off. She made the deal, got the money, etc. She did what she set out to do.
The mystery was neat tonight. No huge fireworks (except the drowning scene was traumatic),but the way the haunted house mystery worked itself out was not clunky, and had a natural progression absed on the clues.
Oh my…Joe and Allison in the car…I LOVED it….you don;t get to see that on Tv every night….
OK and finally, LOVED Allison’s hair up….loved it…maybe they don’t do that because she looks WAY too sexy and va-va voom with her up this season? (She looks more glam w/o the straight bangs)
Wow!
next year I predict will be a lot like seasons 1 and 2, getting a little more back to the roots of the show, and then having some big eps to stir things up as well.
Hammer...

In the end, this episode was written more as if it were the end of the SERIES, as opposed to the season. (Maybe the writers’ strike made them think twice about leaving people with stuff unresolved? Or “The Sopranos” effect of cutting off in mid-reel wasn’t part of the plan.
Anyway, I too, am gratified that all was wrapped up - at least in the sense that we’re not waiting 8 months for a cliffhanger.
Somehow I feel that in the midst of NBC’s ‘year-round’ programming experiment, they will come to their senses when one of their highly touted shows (Christian Slater dud, anyone?) is cancelled, they will wheel out MEDIUM to save them.
As long as Patricia Arquette can be persuaded to sign a new contract (since this 5th season is her last), the show should go on. That being said, however, I can’t help but get the feeling that she may want out to pursue movies and other deals…
SO…today is the first day to petition to re-sign
Patricia Arquette’s contract…she has the leverage, especially with the data above. And, if she stays, she can live in LA, be the great mom that she is, do all her charity work, and have time off.
That strike was really the best thing that could happen to this show, in retrospect…

The guy who played the suspect - the owner of the haunted house - was played by Noah Bean.

This was a good ep and I agree with poster Hammer that the way everything was wrapped up so neatly and everyone ended on a happy note, well Joe and Allison and Devalos, that it was in case they were not renewed so we wouldn’t be left hanging. Just think how awful it would have been last year if NBC had cancelled it after last year’s cliff hanger? Maybe GGC was planning for the worst, or he could have just wanted everyone to be happy again after those last few eps last year and the beginning of this year with all the struggles each of our beloved characters had to face.
I am a little unclear on the motivation of the woman who committed suicide. OK, did she just seek out the son to marry him and then kill herself and frame him JUST TO HURT HER biological dad? Was that the point they were making? That part was just a little fuzzy. Or did his Dad drive her to committ suicide?
Thankfully not much Deputy Doll - maybe Scanlon and her will break up by next year and he will find someone (i.e., an actress who can act) as his mate. I know, I know, wishful thinking - let’s just say I’m a glass half full kind of gal.
Those kids are just so darn cute! Wasn’t that the best scene at the window with Bridgette and Ariel?
Anyone need hangover remedies from Katelyn’s cocktails? Ha Ha!
Betty

Oops. I meant at the window with Bridgette and Marie - I was thinking we got to see Ariel again in this ep since we haven’t seen her much this second half of the season.

hey mediumites ;)
well, a good episode, but not a great one.
I really felt that the past couple of episodes fell a little flat for me. I just didn’t like the “Meghan” storyline…I like that Joe has some storyline going on, but this one just wasn’t doing it for me. She was a snake, and I would’ve preferred for that “villain” to get her “just desserts”…you know? It just didn’t end with a bang…well, unless you consider Joe and Allison in the garage (he he he).
I felt that “Being Joey Carmichael” was kind of flat (which was a huge disappointment, I am a big Miguel Ferrer fan and expected more out of that episode), and “Drowned World” was kind of flat…and not a great way to end the season. Would have loved one more episode with more drama and suspense in it to end this season.
I have to say, hands down, that all of the episodes with Anjelica Huston stood out for me…I LOVED her character and the “Wicked Game” two parter really was the standout point in the season. I also loved the return of Agent Cooper a few episodes back.
But, I have to say it…I missed Allison’s brother Michael this year…and WHERE IS CAPTAIN PUSH????
I’d also love to see season 5 reflect the real Allison DuBois some more. And show how she goes into the university studies, and begins mediumship for clients on an individual basis.

I am sure thw writer’s strke interfered with the characters of Michael and Captain Push returning. I would bet money they will both return next season, and somehow Dr. Walker as well.
What would I like to see explored???
*Allison’s relationship with her mother. Where is she now? I am sure she heard the news about Allison being outed, etc.
*Allison’s father. Who and where is he? I was hoping she would start dreaming of him and figure out who he was, where he it, etc.
I just want to know more about Allison, period. The show is more interesting when it focusses on her, rather than having more storylines with some of the supporting characters…..

Yeah,
I would also love to see her mom and her dad…and Dr. Walker. I love when the villains return. Dr. Walker was a nasty one too…
Would love if Agent Cooper showed up again…and would love to see more episodes where Allison talks with spirits like her father-in-law.
I have a feeling that Season 5 is gonna be a jaw-dropper of a season ;) We can only hope.

I do think the strike and the shortened season as a result had a lot to do with who we got to see and who we didn’t. I don’t think considering the storylines involving Anjelica Houston and Kelly Preston, there wasn’t any play they could logically work in Captain Push and Michael. I am so happy we got to see Joe’s Dad - he is just terrific and nails it every time. We also got to see Joe’s Mom and even revisited some of Allison’s school days. Quite a lot was accomplished even with the shortened season.
I am glad that GGC was able to wrap everything up neat and tidy, not knowing if there would be a 5th season. The numbers this year were terrific! Thankfully we will have a fifth season and I’m hoping even more. Look at Las Vegas - they ended their season with a big ole cliffhanger and now the show’s been cancelled, so the fans are all upset. However, Ausiello says the actors of Las Vegas have not yet been released from their contracts, so we are hoping for a 2 hour TV movie that will wrap everything up.
I am looking forward to bigger and better things next season now that life is back to semi-normal for our favorites! Allison being outed is only big news for a week or so then everyone moves on and it is no longer news. Some people may continue to seek her out, but that should only enhance the variety of the stories.
I’m so sad the season has come to an end, but I am so thankful we get to see our Medium favs again next year! In the meantime, we have Medium Dreams - hmmmm - what kind of mischief can we get ourselves into between now and new Mediums?

Help!! I live in Southern Ontario and set my digital recorder for the Season 4 finale and it only recorded the audio!!! The rest of the screen is black!! UUUGGGHHH! When I go to the NBC site to watch, it tells me I’m “out of their area” and I only got to watch 8 minutes of the episode on You Tube. Can anyone help me? I’m DYING to see this episode in its entirety!
ANY help would be soooo appreciated…
Thanks!
