Medium Moves to a New Night in January 2008

by Katelyn on May 14th, 2007

Just in from NBC is the lineup being announced in today’s Upfront:

SUNDAY (January 2008)
7-8 p.m. “Dateline NBC”
8-9 p.m. “Law & Order”
9-10 p.m. “Medium”
10-11 p.m. “Lipstick Jungle”

What do you think? Does the change mean trouble for Medium? I think this may call for another poll!

I think it depends on what is on the other networks at that time. It sure doesn`t have a very good lead in. Law and Order is just barely hanging on.

JANUARY!?! You have to be kidding me! They’re not starting the new season until January! What do they think they’re doing?

We’re before Law and Order. Considering it was a question whether they were going to come back for another season, I must say that that is not a good lead in. Did they not take our suggestions?

9 instead of 10. This is the one bit of information I like. I’m always sleepy on Thursdays from not getting to sleep until 11, so this is actually nice news.

Overall, I think I could do a much better job at this they there are.

    This SUCKS!

Medium belongs on Monday in its God given spot! LOL!

Let’s hope, and it doesn’t take too much hoping, that the rest of the NBC schedule tanks (have you seen the crap they have on the schedule?) and they bring Medium in early and back on Monday where it belongs.

I sure hope they release Season 3 on DVD soon so I have something to tide me over until Medium comes back.

It really ticks me off that NBC is trotting out almost the entire cast of Heroes to promote the season finale of it - what have they done for Medium? Oh right, they are sending an 8 year old child (Maria Lark) to do Leno on Tuesday. Why don’t they send the rest of the gang to every single talk show there is?

Check this load of trash out! NBC will now let the viewers decide storylines and what the episdoes will be about. Haven’t the writers and creative team already proven themselves? Don’t they know that the folks over at Medium know their stuff? I don’t like this. Read it yourself:

Betty, I so much agree with your sentiments. I need the Season 3 DVD set to hang on until January as well. This means a shortened season, I bet, too. Sigh.

Katelyn, I posted something earlier, but it must have gotten caught in the spam filter. But can I just say that this is one of the most boneheaded moves NBC has ever made.

But I think they’ll do the same thing they did last year. One or more of the new shows will fail, and they’ll pull Medium out of the closet and stick it in that slot. And don’t forget, NBC changed their schedule five minutes after they announced it last year, so this is far from set in stone. NBC is notorious for doing that. I think they’ve come to think of Medium as a utility player that can come in off the bench and perform well whenever and wherever they need it. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not.

But I have to tell you, I walked by Radio City Music Hall today and had to resist the temptation to throw eggs at Kevin Reilly. I might have if I had seen him. I was that mad.

Katelyn, I think my comments are getting stuck in the spam filter. I’ve posted twice and it won’t come up.

    Hi Dawn,
I pulled you out. I really think we’ll be seeing Medium before January-some of these new shows don’t sound very good.

I think you’re right, Katelyn. No way are all of those shows going to make it. And I’ll be thrilled if Medium does come back sooner. I hope it does, but I’m sick of the way NBC is treating it like a red-headed stepchild, not giving it a spot on the fall schedule and holding it till mid-season, and using it as filler for whatever shows fail. Maybe they have more confidence in it than I think, but it just seems like they have no respect for it or its audience. This will sound mean, but I’m kind of hoping a lot of their new fall shows fail so Medium will come back sooner.

Thanks for rescuing my comment, Katelyn.

There are always a few new shows that will fail after only a few episodes. Hopefully NBC will get back some of their since and bring back Medium a lot earlier.

You must think though, at least Medium is coming back. Raines, a show that I had started to get into, didn’t get renewed after their initial seven episode run. I’m thankful that at least it wasn’t Medium.

There is a reason that Medium got renewed. Because its one of the best shows on NBC. I don’t think we were lucky that it got renewed, it deserved to be renewed.

Now as far as the new timeslot is concerned, I think NBC knows it has a winner so instead of worrying about a lead in to Medium, I think they are using Medium as a lead in to the new show in the 10 pm timeslot on Sunday night.

I think we are so use to always trying to defend the show we don’t let speak for itself.

Whether Medium will come on Earlier than January depends on when they are scheduled to start shooting the new episodes. You can’t just start up a production earlier without planning for it way ahead of time. Now for this to become a reality NBC has to be prepared for this now. So NBC if you are listening, get cracking.

It appears that Journeyman on Mondays is fading fast and despite all the overblown hype for Heroes, it’s ratings aren’t so hot either.

Let’s hope NBC will put Medium on sooner than January. Only 7 more days until Season 3 is released on DVD! Yippee! Hope there are lots of extras.

  • Dawn
    Oct 9, 2007 at 4:12 pm

You’re right, Betty. I read the same thing about Journeyman. Seems NBC just can’t get ANYTHING to work in that Monday at 10 spot, except Medium. Gee what do you think they should do?

I also read that Life and Chuck were not faring too well in the ratings. This would be more promising to me if it weren’t for the threat of an impending writer’s strike. Networks are stockpiling shows and freezing all orders for new pilots. Except NBC, who is greenlighting a lot of new “unscripted” shows. You know what that means, don’t you? This new guy is about to glut the network with more reality shows, as if there aren’t enough of them already. The way things are going with the WGA (talks are stalled and a strike is imminent as early as Nov. 1), it might be best for the net to hold Medium until January though, just in case there is a strike, there’s less of a chance of it going “on hiatus” or being cancelled because there are no scripts. As anxious as I am to have Medium back sooner, I would rather they hold it until January rather than bring it back sooner and have to cancel it.

7 more days until the release of the dvds! Yipppeeee!!

I’m with you, Betty. I hope there are lots of extras, and some really good ones. I saw clips of a q&a session that Patricia and Jake and GGC did at an Emmy For Your Consideration event earlier this year, and it would be cool to see the entire session. I would also love to see the entire session of the Paley Festival q&a that was on the season 2 dvds. I keep pleading with the Paley Center to add it to their online content, but no luck yet.
