Medium Open Mic Night
So, we’ve reached the end of another season of Medium, which is really sad since we aren’t scheduled to see new episodes until 2008!! However, even though it is the last episode of the season, I can’t wait to see what Allison does about that sneaky reporter. I’m positive she will come out on top by the end of the episode - solving the crime, proving that she may be a medium, but she’s a good one and generally putting things in order. They won’t make us wait six months to find out how she deals with the shock of being “outed” will they? Well, we’ll find out soon.
Now, since this is a wrap up party for this season, I’m going all out. I’ve got a tray of assorted crackers, my grandmother’s cheese crab dip (really delicious) and the chocolate chip pound cake a friend gave me the recipe for. For drinks, I’ve got Dreamsicles in honor of the dreams that get Allison into so much trouble (vodka, triple sec, cream and orange juice) and a nice dry Riesling.
Well, lets get on with the party. Remember, if you are not an East Coaster, look for the spoiler warning in the comments. I’ll post a stop reading and a start reading warning so you can enjoy the show and still participate in the open mic night without having the surprises ruined.

I can hardly wait for tonight! Let’s hope something thanks early on on NBC’s fall schedule so Medium gets moved up sooner like it did last year. I really hope they find a better time slot than head to head with Desperate Housewives! I gave up watching Lost for Medium, but I’m not gonna give up my Housewives, too!
I’m bringing some fresh fruit for tonight’s get together and a couple of bottles of Sangria.
Katelyn, you are quite the hostess!
Katelyn, the one thing I do not like about the new format is the fact the new posts are not displayed on the right of the screen like they were before. They appear to only be posted AFTER a comment in made. That’s unfair to anyone new to the site if they do not subscribe to it right off. Sometimes the subscription stuff comes late. Every new post doesn’t always get a comment or at least not right away.

Hi Betty,
Yes, this format does have the recent comments more prominently displayed than new posts. If you scroll down to the bottom of the site, you’ll see the latest in entertainment, where the newest posts for all of the entertainment blogs show up.

OK, thanks Katelyn, I thought that was just for posts other sites. Thanks for pointing that out.

OMG! I just watched the clip on NBC.com and all I have to say is - WICKED!
I have some strawberries, bananas, apples, oranges, kiwi, and blueberries.
Ready to party? Just less than 4 hours and counting until the season finale……..

I am sooo ready. I am desperate for some conversation with someone over the age of 16!

Greetings everyone. Well its finally here the last show of the season. I still think the outing is a dream sequence similiar to the Deal or No Deal segment last week.
I think the big bang is Allison shooting the killer.
I just hope the cliffhanger is not whether Allison is outed or not. Crossing my fingers, toes, etc
See you all later

So looking forward to tonight’s show. I have popcorn and a nice white wine. See you in a few hours…

Hi everybody!! Four hours to go for me. I’m making no predicitons (I did after the first epi and I was WRONG!!) and really have no expectations besides brilliance and a lot of suspense. Can’t wait to see you all here in a little bit. Put the kids to bed early, turn the lights down low, get out your favorite snack (chocolate) and let’s party! See you soon!

Yay, tonight’s finally here. I’ve been looking forward to this all week. Tonight’s episode looks really great, I just hope it doesn’t end with too big of a cliffhanger, though I’m guessing it probably will. I’m especially looking forward to seeing how this outing thing will affect her family and the others around her. That will certainly be interesting to watch. And then Allison can’t turn to Devalos or Scanlon for help, so that should make things interesting.
That chocolate chip pound cake certainly sounds interesting, Katelyn. Do you have any of that punch left over from last week? That was particularly tasty.
Only three hours and seven minutes left!
Katelyn
May 16, 2007 at 5:05 pm
Hi Holly,
The cake is fabulous. I do have some punch left over. I’m having a cup of English Breakfast tea and a slice of cake while I wait for Medium to start.
By the way, don’t miss the Access Hollywood clip of Maria Lark. I just posted the link.

Wow, time does fly. I just looked down at the clock and it says that there’s only 45 minutes until the season finale starts. Yippee! But of course, when it’s over we have to wait until January (but hopefully sooner) for new episodes.
Holly
May 16, 2007 at 6:52 pm
Did I say 45 minutes? I certainly ment 15, and now there’s only 8! Which means I must leave you all in order to get myself calm enough to watch (I’m so excited right now). Talk to you all about it tommorw!

I’m thinking Allison is very isn’t going to go away just because someone told her to. I’m thinking she’s finding a gun and watching her ex-friend on her own to keep her safe. Anyone else have a different idea?
Katelyn
May 16, 2007 at 7:41 pm
I think they are glued to their tv sets!
Brenna
May 16, 2007 at 7:50 pm
I don’t think Allison is going away either. Maybe she’ll take things into her own hands…hard time believing that she would shoot/handle a gun.
Katelyn
May 16, 2007 at 7:59 pm
Ummm…where’s the bang?

Yes, where was the bang? Interesting…not what was I expecting.

A very nice wrap up for the season, though. If you are from the midwest, it is safe to read comments from this point.

Kind of half expected it to end this way… Not very dynamic for a finale, but it does make me really interested in what’s happening next.
Also, I really liked Joe in this episode.
Brenna
May 16, 2007 at 8:13 pm
I liked Joe in this episode too. I was expecting a bit more ‘wow’ for an ending, but I did really like the show tonight.
Dorothy
May 16, 2007 at 8:19 pm
So, apparently the world didn’t end after the article was printed. I expected more of a mess the way they’ve avoided it this long. However, the real life Allison is in the public eye all the time and she’s still a functioning member of society.
Dorothy
May 16, 2007 at 8:20 pm
Wow, I didn’t think Allison’s case would jeapordize Joe’s work situation. I just never saw that coming. What a drag!

Finally, the murderer and the reporter are face to face. I thought for sure they were going to be linked some how.
Dorothy
May 16, 2007 at 8:23 pm
I think the family is going to have a harder time of this than Allison. She’s grumpy, but it’s the rest of the family who are affected through no fault of their own.
Dorothy
May 16, 2007 at 8:25 pm
Apparently, I’m the only person the the west-ish coast and having a conversation with myself. Be that the case, I suppose it’ll just be more appropriate if I…woah! the maid!! But she’s not the maid…ohh, who is she, I can’t remember.

I am very disappointed in this episode. Where’s the explanation of how Allison — With her kind but tough image — handles her Family deli ma of how she is just thrown out without a job, along with Joe?! We have to wait for the next season… Which starts in — WHAT!? — 2008!
No new episodes until 2008?! They’re obviously taking advantage of the faithful viewers :( . What happens when all these new juicy series come out (And when CSI New york has lost its touch) and it’s the middle of the week. You’re looking forward to one joyous series that will put you to sleep, but … There is nothing? When you’re squished in between Heroes on Mondays at 9, Boston legal on Tuesdays at 10, and ER on Thursdays at 10, what is there to calm you down for possibly the most hectic time of the week? This is murder. This is all coming out from my Mom but I am agreeing with it lool. (And I’d like to say that I’m younger than 18 — Just so we don’t jump to conclusions.) I’d also like to add our time is EST. xD
Dorothy
May 16, 2007 at 8:27 pm
Somebody, are you there?! Who is she?! I don’t remember. QUICK!! The suspence is killing me.
Ok, I’m an addict. I’ll just look silly and converse with myself (except for the one person who’s going to answer my question, of course).

I can’t believe that after all this time Scanlon can just discredit Allison and everything she says. Despite the mess, she has still been vaulable before. How frustrating.
Ok, and I get it that the woman who played the maid was one of the victims.

Hi Katelyn, thanks for being there. I was getting a little lonely and looking a little pathetic.
Dorothy
May 16, 2007 at 8:41 pm
I’m still surprised that Debra is so rude to Allison. I think she would be more empathetic and just humor Allison and leave the hotel. She’s REALLY confident that Allison is nuts to stay where she is. I’d be out of there in ten seconds flat even if I beleived Allison to be wrong. But hey, I think sounds in the dark are burglars, so what do I know about Debra’s behavior?
Katelyn
May 16, 2007 at 8:42 pm
Dorothy,
I think they’re all so caught up in the show that they can’t tear themselves away. Crab dip? I’ve got plenty left.
Katelyn
May 16, 2007 at 8:43 pm
Debra is a newswoman. She believes in cold hard facts that she has uncovered by her tenacious research. She doesn’t do all that touchy feely stuff…
Brenna
May 16, 2007 at 8:43 pm
I stepped out to the grocery store for some snacks, too. I thought Scanlon’s reaction was a bit excessive. I thought the the effects of the ‘outing’ of Allison’s psychic abilities would have a lot of affect on the family. Funny not surprised that Joe’s employer balked at taking him back. Not sure why.
Dorothy
May 16, 2007 at 8:44 pm
Ok, now Joe’s lost his job and they’re broke. This is way depressing.
Katelyn
May 16, 2007 at 8:44 pm
Joe has outgrown that job. They don’t appreciate him.

Kateyln, any more Dreamsicles left? I am sad about the season being over…can’t believe that we have to wait until Jan 2008 for Season 4.
Dorothy
May 16, 2007 at 8:49 pm
I hate it when shows find the need to explain the whole nasty “plan” for the viewers. It’s kind of insulting, but maybe the writers were honestly making conversation when the victim explained the whole “how we did it” plan with Jason Priestly.
Katelyn
May 16, 2007 at 8:50 pm
Sure, there are plenty left. I made a big batch.
Brenna

Yes, it was depressing that Joe was rebuffed by the lawyer and his employer. They will be ok…I wonder if he’ll find another lawyer to sue the company.

Well, I’ve freshened up snacks for the California group, but I’m not going to make it til 1. Enjoy yourselves and make sure you finish off that bottle of wine. It goes perfectly with the crab dip.

Poor Debra, she figured itout just a little too late. She shoulda kept her mouth shut. It’s weird, but I do feel a little sad about her death. Somehow I just wanted her to be ok AND for Allison to be right.
Brenna
May 16, 2007 at 9:00 pm
I am not sure that I am that upset about Debra’s death. Not that she had it coming. Allison did all she could to ’save’ her.

There’s Allison’s spunk! I love how she makes her entrance nad exit in front of the “new DA”.
Where was half of the preview? Where’s the gun part? Oh well, I still loved this episode. And I think everything’s going to be fine now that everyone knows that “crazy Allison” is once again, as always, right!! Nite nite my friends.

I have a feeling a dream sequence was cut, or they changed the ending? I think it may have originally been a 2 hour season finale….the killer chasing Debra with a mask on, Allsion shooting a gun, etc. That was justa dream that didn;t make the show’s final cut, and that NBC should NOT have used in the previews at all.
Brenna
May 17, 2007 at 7:39 am
Brett, you’re on the West Coast, too, eh? We just got an east coast feed, so I was able to watch the show at 7pm. Not sure I could have waited until 10!

I just watched the show now. I was so psyched to watch it last night, and fell asleep at the tail end of Criminal minds and woke up in the middle of Medium.
Thank god for http://www.nbc, I just watched the show now and looked through the comments on here.
As I started to read these comments I said to myself where was the big bang, and that reminded me of the coming attractions last week which showed Allison firing a gun. Then I said to myself, what happene to that scene. Was starting to doubt my memory, when I saw a comment from Dorothy asking the same question. whew!!!
Tom
May 17, 2007 at 8:56 am
I have to admit I am surprised they outed Allison, but I guess it opens up alot of ideas for next season with the affect the outing will have on her family.
I loved Allison’s closing scene with the new DA. You have admit she does have spunk!!!
So wheres the big bang???
Dorothy
May 17, 2007 at 9:53 am
I had one more thought before I went to bed last night. Despite all she did while alive, at least Debra pulled through with one redeaming act at the end by sending Allison the message. That was the least she could do after causing all the chaos in the first place.

May 17, 2007 at 10:32 am
I LOVED this episode, but I have to agree it was a little disappointing with the way NBC promoted it. I was expecting to see a lot more action, like the killer going after Debra (the guy in the mask) and Allison going after the killer (with the gun). I have to wonder if they changed the story or if there’s more to it. Either way, it was a great episode. Excellent work, as always, by the cast and creative team. I was surprised to find out that Walter Paxton really was the killer (I don’t know why that surprised me but it did). And to find out that he was working with a lover and then he killed her was a shocker. I LOVED Allison’s final scene. That was a perfect ending to that episode. “You can thank me later.” How funny was that? And when she told Joe “The whole world has fallen off its axis.” I howled. It was great. A great ending to another fantastic season.
On another note, I noticed that total viewership was down for this week’s episode and it occurred to me that NBC did NOTHING to promote the SEASON FINALE of this show as they have for Scrubs, The Office, ER and Heroes. Does anyone agree with me?
Dorothy
May 17, 2007 at 12:13 pm
Dawn, I agree with you. Sometimes I just sat and watched the commercials in the evening just to see if NBC even bothered to show any for Medium. It is horrible how they promote–or rather, don’t promote this show. I’ve said it before, but it seems to me like they don’t have much faith or appreciation for this show. They aren’t putting much effort into helping it’s success, as though they’re just binding their time waiting for the right reason to cancel it without feeling guilty. Does this show not deserve the attention that Heroes or some of the other lame comedies do?
Dorothy
May 17, 2007 at 12:15 pm
At least a big three- nighter season finale would deserve some fireworks and whistles!
Tom
May 17, 2007 at 1:06 pm
Dorothy, you are right as usual. If not fireworks or whistles at least the big BANG they led us to believe would happen.
Betty
May 18, 2007 at 2:15 pm
Dawn, where were you on Wed night? Missed you and shame on you, Tom for falling asleep!
I’m late posting - had to go see the Rheumatologist yesterday - it’s a four hour round trip, plus the time I was there, which was FOREVER - I had to get up at 3:45 AM to make my financial appointment at 7 AM. Needless to say, I was beat when I finally got back home - silly me - thought I might actually go to work for a few hours.
I thought they really made Scanlon be a big butt head in this ep - it’s that damn DiNovi - she’s a bad influence - all worried about image all the time - Scanlon normally wouldn’t give a rat’s ass what anyone else thought as long as he thought he was right and on the right track. Remember the first ep where we saw Scanlon and he met Allison? He’d been investigating his sister’s death for 2 years even though everyone else thought he was crazy - Allison helped him solve it. I really don’t think Scanlon would ever dodge Allison’s phone calls.
I thought the ending was rather abrupt. Where the heck were the scenes they’d been showing us in the previews? The masked man chasing Debra and Allison shooting a gun?
Luke Anderson
May 18, 2007 at 7:09 pm
I don’t know! It reminded EXACTLY of the killer who had the same psychic dreams as Allison. You know, the one that escaped from jail?
I wish they were going to end it like that, but that Allison would actually DO something, instead of sitting there with something, and screaming helplessly. But they like to use that “cornering” shot, where she has something and gets backed up to a door haha.

Late, Later, me ^_^
I’m not in the US and thought it might be a good idea to save the 3 episodes & watch them all together.
Which I just did :D
and what can I say ??
I’m not disappointed, I’m glad Joe and Allison are good again, I didn’t like Debra (or Neve’s haircut) much, but in the end she did what she could to help.
I’m sure Allison will get her job back, and Joe will find an even better one… after some time.
At the moment I’m just wondering where they’re going with the new DA.
hmm, anyways,
hi, I’m Angie, and just thought I’d say hello :D
I’d love to participate more in Open Mic Night, but there’s always the fear of spoilers … which is why I don’t in the end ;)
Betty
May 21, 2007 at 1:07 pm
Welcome Angie! We welcome you to participate any time you can! I cannot participate live during the shows, but I can read the posts that are being posted and then I comment the next day. You will find people come and go all the time - there’s lots of great posts to look in on.
I have the whole season on tape now and I’ve been meaning to go back and watch the last 3 together myself, but just had too much yard work to do this weekend to do that. Maybe that will be my project Wednesday night since there is no new or old Medium scheduled!
Katelyn
May 21, 2007 at 1:28 pm
Hi Angie,
On the newer open mic nights, I’ve been putting up a spoiler alert after this point message for the different time zones. That way, you can read the chit chat before the show starts and then stop reading when you see the warning that there are spoilers ahead. I hope that will help more people to participate in the fun.

Hi, Angie, and welcome. Always happy to have more Medium fans to talk to.
Betty, I know I missed Open Mic Nite this week, but I was working. And since you have already read my comments, I won’t repeat them, except to say that, while the ending of this episode was a little disappointing, especially after the previews, I thought this ep( the whole arc) was excellent. I especially loved the way the writers used the “dead” phone ring as a way for Debra to show Allison what happened. That was REALLY creepy. Another thing Medium’s writers do so well. And that exit line of Allison’s was CLASSIC. I LOVED it.
“You can thank me later.”
Can’t wait till next season. Like you, Betty, I have all of the episodes either on tape or on my dvr. It’s gonna be a long wait until January. What will we do until then?
Betty
May 22, 2007 at 9:54 am
Dawn, there are repeats, too - maybe Katelyn will be willing to do something for repeats - perhaps we will pick up some new fans who stumble across the show by accident - I know it won’t be because of any fantastic publicity from NBC.
Thank God for the Lifetime network - they are showing Medium every Saturday night.
On May 30 one of most everyone’s favorite eps is coming up on NBC- Better Off Dead - that one had a nice sweet ending. I’ll be watching. In fact, I still need to go back and watch the season ending episode arc - all 3 eps at one sitting.
Katelyn, I don’t know if you are in for this or not, but at another site I used to frequent for another of my all time favorite shows (Scarecrow & Mrs King) someone would start a paragraph of a fictional story using the characters from our favorite show (each person must remember to keep the lines consistent with their character - use their speech patterns, etc) Each person writes one paragraph and then the next person has to pick up the story where the person before him/her left off. It’s fun to see where people go with the story or get out of sticky situations. I’m sure a lot of us would like to write an exit story for Di Novi! We could at least fictionally get rid of her! (Again, I stress, I’m sure Tina DiJoseph is a sweet and kind person, she’s just desperately in need of acting lessons.)
Katelyn
May 22, 2007 at 10:10 am
Hi Betty,
I was planning to still offer open mics on repeat episodes so we could talk about lines we missed, fashion trends (or lack thereof), etc.
The interactive fan fiction idea is a wonderful one and I’d be delighted to start a post for it.
Betty
May 22, 2007 at 10:33 am
Thanks Katelyn! That’s great - it’s going to be a long empty time before Medium comes back if they hold to that January thing.
We need to keep everyone interested - I would hate to see Medium lose a lot of audience because of the long break.
Luke
May 22, 2007 at 2:35 pm
I can’t wait for the repeats! It seems like it would be boring to watch the episodes that you’ve seen, but since you’ve already seen it, you can usually pick things you didn’t find in the first running.
Whenever I would watch a Medium episode, I’d just be so excited then I would have to call my Mom every 10 minutes to get in and watch Medium (Seeing as she likes to do dishes, or she’s gotten used to it by now). So anyways, I’m more focused on watching the episode and figuring out the crime or mystery, but when it’s repeats, you know what’s coming up (Or may have forgotten, which is another good thing) so you can usually pay attention to the smaller details. At least, that’s what I do!
