Medium Open Mic Night
Finally! These to be continued episodes are sheer torture, but we made it through the whole long week and part two is finally about to begin. For those who missed last week’s episode, here’s a recap:
Allison has lost her anchor. Joe is too busy struggling with the aftermath of the hostage situation episode to be there for her. In fact, he’s texting away with another woman, instead. It’s no wonder that Allison welcomes the mysterious Debra with open arms, but does she have to spill all those details to a perfect stranger? In the meantime, despite Allison’s complete assurance that they’ve got the bad guy, heads continue to roll. What will this week bring? Well, that’s what we’re here to find out.
Dinner was kind of hit or miss, so I’ve put together a big plate of cheese, grapes and apple slices to snack on. This Colby cheese is really wonderful, so be sure to grab a few slices. I also brought a bottle of wine from my favorite Italian grocery store, down in Baltimore. It’s great for desserts - Belini Canella Wine Cocktail di Venezia.
Hey, and don’t forget this week’s poll. There’s still time to vote on whether Allison will figure out what’s going on with Debra before she is blindsided. How much fun will you have being able to smugly say, “I told you so!” to anyone who voted wrong as we view part two of this exciting trio of shows?
Well, on with the show. Come on Allison, you can figure it out!

Yay! It’s finally Wednesday!
Katelyn, those snacks sound delightful - especially that wine. Didn’t you promise to bring some of those french cookies also?
I’ll bring some strawberries and dip - I make this great dip that has cream cheese and marshmallow creme in it - of course I remove ALL the calories first. I’ll keep some dipping chocolate warm for the strawberries also. I think I’ll skip the margaritas this week and bring a couple of bottles of Asti Spumanti - one of my favs and it will go so well with the strawberries and dip.
I read on Kristin’s columun at E! that Glenn Gordon Caron said this season will end with some cliffhangers and a big bang for Allison! Sounds intriging doesn’t it?
I’m worried! I just can’t stand to think of Allison being in a bad place or unhappy all summer.

Hi Betty,
Yes, I have the French cookies. I just finished putting them out on my Blue Willow platter. Everyone always asks for the recipe after they eat a few cookies, so here is the link to it (and my memories about making them.)
I can’t wait to try some of the strawberry dip. It sounds wonderful.
I don’t want to wait until fall to find out how Allison resolves the mess if they leave her hanging in one, either. And a big bang - a good one? A bad one?
Betty
May 9, 2007 at 12:35 pm
I can’t wait to go and look up your recipe! It didn’t say if it was a good bang or a bad one, just a big one. Hmmmmmm……
I found the article through yahoo tv.

Betty,
I just went and read that article. Thanks for the tip. It sounds like it’s going to be a really exciting ending. For them to end it like that makes me think that they must have known that the show was coming back all along. Those sneaky buzzards.
Your wine and cheese trays, and strawberries sound delicious, and so do your cookies, Katelyn. But I’m so bummed over missing Patricia on Rachael this morning that I think I need something stronger. I’m bringing mojitos. Anybody want one? And maybe chips and salsa to go with all the sweets.
See you tonight.

i wish i could be included in your open mic night but sadly i’m not from america so I have to wait for the new episode when someone uploads it onto the web. Oh well. Would love a mojito!!!

Over at TV.com they have a video up of “Heads Will Roll”. I haven’t tried the NBC site set, so it could be the same one. Looks good!
Ciaran, come and discuss with us anyway - you don’t just have to talk about the episode - you can talk about the actors and their wardrobe, or whatever you want - unless the time difference would be too great.
Dawn, I’m sorry you are having a bad day.

OK, just got back from checking the NBC.com site and the preview they have on there IS different from the one at TV.com - Enjoy! It’s really good and scary!

Hello Everyone,
Hope you all enjoyed the Patricia Arquette appearance on Rachel Ray this morning. It was a great interview. NBC should take a lesson from it. If you remember a few weeks ago Patricia Arquette was interviewed on NBC for all of 5 minutes while standing in the street. Shame on them.
This interview she was able to sit down and actually talk and even poke fun at herself and some of her red carpet appearances. The interview lasted about 20 minutes and was well worth the wait. To bad she has to go to a different network to get a decent interview.
See you guys tonight

Go ahead and rub it in, Tom.
Just kidding. But that really put a damper on my whole day. I was really looking forward to that interview.
Anyway, Betty, thanks for the tip about those clips. Those were great. I am dying to see what’s gonna happen next. And what is this cliffhanger GGC is talking about? And a big bang for Allison? This is worse than the suspense of waiting for a renewal. At least this is the good kind of suspense.
Anyway, to celebrate Medium’s renewal, and to forget about how bummed I am ( I promise that’s the last I’ll say about that), I’m starting early.
Mojito, anybody? Ciaran, I’ve got yours right here.

I just watched the clips over at tv.com, and I must say that they look good. They were not that long, but they will do a good job at tiding me over for the next four and a half hours.
I also read the Medium stuff over a E!, and it sounds good. I don’t know how I feel about a cliffhanger over the summer. I mean, they leave you full of suspense, but also keep you wonder until the new season starts.
The interview on Rachel Ray was pretty good. I was happy to see that they actually talked about the show more than they did her brother’s movie. There really wasn’t any new information, but it was cool to see Patricia again.
I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t get to see it, Dawn. I agree with you all, those type of things can wait until the news.
Betty

Hi Tom!
Hey Sheila, what kind of strange and unusual drink are you bringing tonight?
Dawn, I’m not crazy about mojitos - maybe its an acquired taste.
Hey Holly!
I can’t wait until I get home so I can see if I got the interview or Hillary instead - that would be a big bummer. Perhaps someone who did get it would transcribe it for us? Pretty Please?
I am encouraged about tonight’s episode - I saw Scanlon in the clip -he was on screen for about as long as he was in last week’s entire ep - so I’m hoping for way more tonight.
It’s a glorious day here today! Oh praise God for low humidity - and by low, here on the Gulf Coast that means its under 80% - it is 80 something degrees and low humidity and feels so delicious outside. Why do I go on about this? Because here these days are few and far between. I was reading in CA where they are having that huge wildfire the humidity was only 2% - I can’t even imagine how that feels. I would gladly send them some of our humidity if I could and thought it would help. I’m sure Kansas would gladly send them some of the 11″ of rain they’ve had, too.
I was talking to a new client last week - she just moved here from Wyoming - where she lived - she said it NEVER rained. They get snow, but virtually no rain. Her dog was terrified of the rain when they got here! My daughter lives in Cheyenne - they have had some rain, but the bulk of their water comes from snow - they get snow 9 months of the year.
Can’t wait until 9 PM CST for Medium!
Holly
May 9, 2007 at 3:27 pm
Hey, Betty! I know what you mean about weather. It has been great these past few days (much better than the snow we had a few weeks ago). Right now it’s kind of hot for Indiana, but I’ll take that any day over five below. I just got out my shorts a few days ago!
Katelyn
May 9, 2007 at 3:44 pm
Just a reminder - if you missed last week and your tivo malfunctioned, you can watch the entire episode here.
Now if only Rachel Ray would put the entire episode from today online for those of us who got Clintoned. However, she did put up a small clip where Patricia talks about her brother.
Betty
May 9, 2007 at 3:54 pm
Hey Holly! Yeah, we pretty much have shorts weather here year round. On occasion it’s too cold, but that still doesn’t stop some people!
April was cooler than last year this time when it was in the 90’s already - that’s too early for me! Last year this time we were having a mild drought - this year so far we’re ahead for rain for the year. I just like it to come in nice doses and not in floods or not at all. There have been some summers when it was so hot and dry (still have humidity about 95-100%) we were actually hoping for a small hurricane or at the very least a tropical storm! Actually when we have had floods, more have been caused by Tropical Depressions and Tropical Storms (the diff has to do with the wind speed) than hurricanes. A storm like Katrina was so HUGE that it had an enormous storm surge that caused a lot of flooding along the Louisana and MS coasts, plus when those levees broke in New Oreleans, that created a lot more flooding where it probably would have been OK.
OK Holly, no adult beverages for you! You must be 21 or over to partake of adult beverages - and only then if you are home for the night and not out driving around.
Oh boy, only 3 hours to go!
Betty
May 9, 2007 at 3:59 pm
Katelyn, thanks for that clip! It’s pretty much the same thing she said on the interview NBC.com had up with her and David on the Medium set.
I think she looks pretty.

For the under 21 crowd, I’ve put out the punch bowl. I used a bottle of Sprite, a container of fruit punch and a carton of orange juice. It doesn’t taste half bad, but if you don’t want to give it a try, I’ve also got the fixings for rootbeer floats. Everyone has had a rootbeer float before, right?
Betty
May 9, 2007 at 4:27 pm
Katelyn, you really know how to entertain!
Yum, rootbeer floats!
Holly
May 9, 2007 at 4:54 pm
Don’t worry Betty, I have no plans on drinking anything stronger than a root beer float! I’ve been wanting some ice cream lately, so I would love a root beer float. That punch even sounds great! I went to a party about a year ago and they had punch with about the same ingredients, and I must say that it was quite tasty.
You do know how to entertain, Katelyn!

Hi guys!
I’m really looking forward to enjoying this ep with you. It’s been a long and interesting day. The Bellini sounds so good. You say it goes well with dessert?
Hey Dawn, any guacamole with the chips?
Katelyn
May 9, 2007 at 5:37 pm
Lena,
The Bellini is fantastic with dessert.
Thanks guys - I do like to throw a party. It’s some sort of hereditary event planning gene in my family.

Lena,
I’m not much of a guacamole fan, but for you, girlfriend, I’ll get out my Mexican cuisinart (the only way to make guacamole) and whip some up for you.
Actually, everything sounds good tonight. Sounds like we’ve got the makings of a great party here.
Katelyn, did you get Clintoned too? Thanks for the clip anyway. That makes me feel a little better. I’m hoping someone will put it up on youtube for those of us who missed it.
Mmmmm, good mojitos. Anybody else want one?

May 9, 2007 at 6:04 pm
What is the strategy going to be tonight as far as discussing the show? More specifically the east coast will be watching Medium in about an hour. Should we keep our comments to ourselves about tonights episode so we don’t ruin it for people who live in the west?
Its is hard to watch Medium and then not discuss it for a couple of hours. Katelyn, what do you think? Last week Sheila indicated we shouldn’t hold back our discussions

Yes, I was Clintoned, too. If you could see the company you were keeping in the spam filter, you’d be using up your third bar of soap right now. Ick.
Katelyn
May 9, 2007 at 6:30 pm
Tom,
I think we can chat away. Later viewers can make sure they skip the first chunk of comments so they don’t have any surprises ruined. I’ll post a warning at 10 p.m. est for anyone reading through from one of the other time zones to stop reading if they want to avoid the spoilers.

Spoiler Alert:
If you are not watching this episode from the East Coast and don’t want to find out what’s going on ahead of time, do not read the rest of the comments until Medium airs in your time zone. East Coasters, chat away.

Very clean. Useless, but very clean.
For a minute, we had the old Joe and Allison back.
Brenna
May 9, 2007 at 7:06 pm
Interesting that they had Joe talking to his Dad. Though wasn’t the Dad a poor excuse for a father for Joe? No wonder that he doesn’t know or care how many kids his son has!

I liked that bit…a little bit of why I love this show!
Katelyn
May 9, 2007 at 7:11 pm
Another wooden and uninspired performance by our friend. She could have done so much more with those lines. She was being accused of leaking a story to a reporter for Pete’s sake and she sounded like she was relaying a boring bit of statistics.
Katelyn
May 9, 2007 at 7:19 pm
We have dead people. We feel a tad sad about that, but boy are we mad about the drop in tourist dollars.
Predecessor? Nooo. Save our district attorney. Allison, wake up and do something!

You know I love seeing Joe first in this ep. The perfect beginning. Isn’t he just gorgeous?

Interesting that she isn’t picking up the signals/vibes from Debra…like she does with most people. She is oblivious.

She’s too caught up in her fear for Debra to let those signals in.

Oh know it’s a set up! “I will call you.”
Debra is getting ready to do some major damage.
Why can’t she read this female? What’s the d–n problem?
Okay, no more Bellinis for me. Sorry for getting so emotional. (smile)

Did you see the comment from Glen Gordon Caron about the season finale being a cliff hanger and season ends with a bang for Allison character.
The comming attractions shows Allison shooting a gun, do we think this is what he was referring to?
Its unusual for him to let the cat out of the bag sperhaps this is a coincidence

From “The Guide to Pink Elephants Volume 2″ -
To make a Hoot Mon Cocktail, mix 3/4 oz Italian Vermouth, 1 1/2 oz Scotch and 1 teaspoon Benedictine. Stir with cracked ice and strain into your glass. Add a twist of lemon peel and serve.
Katelyn
May 9, 2007 at 9:04 pm

OH MY GOD!!!!! HOW AWESOME WAS THIS!!! Can this get any better??!!! The suspense is torture. I knew that Debra was no good. She was just too nosy and just a little too friendly. What a bee-yatch.
I loved the opening with Joe talking to his dad. Looks like that’s what he needed to get his head straight. And I am so thrilled that Allison and Joe are back to normal. I missed them the way they were. But I knew they’d work it out.
And WHY,oh,WHY did Allison blab everything to Debra? Couldn’t she see what that woman was? Too late now. No use closing the barn door now. The horse is already out. Or is it?
I have to wonder if the secret really is out. Or if this is going to be another premonition of Allison’s. And what kind of cliffhanger could GGC be talking about? And what kind of “big bang” could he mean is in store for Allison?
This is torture. But it’s so much fun!!! I can’t wait till next week. But it’s the last Medium of the season, dangit. I bet it’s gonna be a DOOZY!!!
