NEW POLL - Vote here or in the sidebar! |
In celebration of David Cubitt’s 42nd birthday, let’s get him a girl!
Well, let’s get Detective Scanlon a girl. Okay, let’s decide who we think Scanlon should be with, knowing full well the writers are hell bent on keeping Deputy Mayor DiNovi hovering about him and we will never get our way. Every Medium fan should have a fantasy.
I know they are all listed above, but I have provided a link to each actress’s IMDb profile below in case you do not know who the heck she is and want to click over and take a peek. I have also provided her age and birthday. Um, no reason.
- Emmy Rossum (20 - b 12 Sep 1986)
- Natalie Portman (25 - b 9 Jun 1981)
- Reese Witherspoon (31 - b 22 Mar 1976)
- Vanessa Marcil (38 - b 15 Oct 1968)
- Lucy Liu (38 - b 2 Dec 1968)
- Cynthia Nixon (40 - b 1 Apr 1966)
- Salma Hayek (40 - b 2 Sep 1966)
- Connie Nielsen (41 - b 3 Jul 1965)
- Kristin Davis (42 - b 23 Feb 1965)
- Sandra Bullock (42 - b 26 Jul 1964)
- Demi Moore (44 - b 11 Nov 1962)
- Andie MacDowell (48 - b 21 Apr 1958)
Tell us more in the comments and don’t forget to add your own answer if you do not like any of the current choices. Especially on this poll. I am dying to know who you would pick. Who cares if she normally only does movies. Or is too young for him. Or too old. Or too girly. Or gay. Who would you pick?

I’m picking Vanessa Marcil - she used to be Brenda on General Hospital and was part of two smoking hot couples - Sonny/Brenda and Jax/Brenda and then the famous love triangle. She is really pretty and girly and smoking hot - Scanlon needs a smoking hot lady to go with him!
I’m thinking maybe a nurse would be a good profession for someone to hook up with him. She would have her own experiences with dead people, grissly wounds, etc - maybe an ER nurse at a trauma hospital. That would give them some common ground of seeing some of the worst that people do to one another - they would also understand the detachment that is necessary to face this on a daily basis. Just someone else that deals with death and dying.

I like Betty’s answer, and it has an interesting twist too. Scanlon could follow a case to Las Vegas, where he would be staying at the Montecito. Of course he would have to question Sam, and sparks would fly. It almost writes itself!
For some reason the system didn’t take my suggestion, but I picked Edyta Silwinska. An odd choice, to be sure, but now that Dancing With The Stars is back on the air, Edyta is once again the most beautiful woman on television. Plus, that Polish accent would lend itself well to her being some kind of a mystical figure. And that is something that Scanlon is ready to deal with after his time working with Allison. Of course, I’d settle for the two of them to be partners on DWTS once Medium’s run is over.

You guys are probably pretty glad it wouldn’t let me add an answer. I think you know who I like as Scanlon’s love interest…
So, I picked Reese Witherspoon, because, well, I like her. No deep meaning or logic to my choice.

What is UP with it not letting you add an answer? Sorry guys. I have sent a request to tech support to find out what the problem is.
And now I am off to Google Edyta Silwinska.

Vanessa Marcil would be fun. I added Kate Winslet for the sole reason that people say I look like her, and it’d be the closest I get to dating David Cubitt. Now that I think about it, Kim Delaney would be good, also. I’d rather see him with any of the above choices than you-all-know-who!

LOL, I just noticed that Patricia Arquette isn’t listed! Just kidding …

Thanks Brett!
It would be fun to see Scanlon find a girl he had to work for to - really work at pursuing her just to get a date. A real challenge - someone that doesn’t just fall at his feet when he smiles at her. Once they go out, not be that interested at first - of course, they would be really worth the trouble in the end if he keeps the pursuit up. Bet that would really through Scanlon for a loop!

Holly, sweetheart, you really need to get over this DiNovi thing, OK? She is evil. Do you understand, EVIL?

Speaking of praying for someone, please pray for the family of Game Warden Justin Hurst. He was shot and killed in the line of duty Saturday, March 17 - his 34th birthday - and leaves behind a wife and 4 month old son.
He is the first lawman Wharton County has lost in the line of duty in 87 years.

Now, do you really think she is EVIL? I think she just has some problems that she needs to face, but I think evil is pushing it. It would be a really cool story line, her and Scanlon both facing some of their issue together, working them out. Besides, I don’t see her going anywhere anytime soon. She needs SOMEONE to like her, right?
Betty and nansee, I’m always sorry to hear about those types of things. I’ll keep them in my thoughts.

Holly,
She’s a politician - they are all EVIL. Don’t you remember in “Four Dreams” when she was at the restaurant with Lee and told him what those people said to her about a “Civil Servant” and Lee asks, “What did you say?” She replies, “Nothing - there wasn’t anything TO say.”
Yes there was! She could have told them to blow smoke up their *ss! She could have said what does that have to do with anything, or Yes, I’m seeing a Civil Servant and if that’s not OK, then you can take your City Council Seat and stuff it! But, alas, she remained silent. All too telling….
OK, so then if they get past the fact he is a Civil Servant, and find out he is a recovering drug addict, how do you think they will like that little tid bit? Then she breaks his heart again and dumbs him for another reason.
I don’t think she is enough of a person in her own right to stand up to outside people trying to “handle” her. She doesn’t appear to have enough of a backbone since she sat there in silence and never questioned those people or challenged their views.
Scanlon is far to good for that. He deserves someone who is truly, madly, deeply in love with him - someone who loves him with all their heart and soul. Damn, a Josh Turner song comes to mind, but I can’t think of the title. He deserves someone who is with him for the long haul, no matter what.

I think she truly does love him and will stand by him, she was just really confused at the time. She didn’t know where her and Scanlon stood, and she wasn’t about to tell these people who were offering to help her get a spot on City Council forget it. I think she will be able to get a grip on all of this and still be with Scanlon. I do, however, believe there will come a point where someone tells her she has to choose, but she won’t be able to so she will get rid of the people from “Four Dreams” that said they didn‘t want her with a Civil Servant. Now, I don’t know if she will win her race, but I think she will come to a point where she doesn’t care if people don’t like her with a Civil Servant recovering drug addict. The perfect couple! Does that make sense?

Don’t buy it Holly - she had her chance to speak up and didn’t. Whether or not she was in a committed relationship, she should have been able to speak up for her beliefs, mores, etc. It would be offensive to me to have someone tell me I shouldn’t date someone/marry someone/live with someone because of their job title. At that point I’d have to make a decision if it was worth pursuing, or if I would be the one who would blaze a new trail and go for it anyway - with or without the support of those people. Di Novi should have done the same.
She basically said to Scanlon, “I want to keep you for a booty call because you are not good enough to be anything more permanent.” She was behaving as a “Samantha” from “Sex and the City”, not like a “Charlotte.” Scanlon needs a Charlotte.
Holly, dear, you are young and inexperienced, and not wise to the ways of the cold, cruel, world. You MUST always be able to speak up for your beliefs and defend them no matter what.

It’s possible, I guess. To me she just seems like the kind of person who would stand by Scanlon, even though she did have a little moment of confusion early in the season. Of course I could be all wet. We all could be. We don’t know what’s coming next. It’s not that I’m in love with DiNovi, I just feel she needs someone to give her a chance. As long as the show stays as great as it is right now, I would be willing to give up on this lost cause.

I say this all tongue planted firmly in cheek - all in good fun - I mean no disrespect to Ms. Di Joseph, who I’m sure is a lovely person - however, the concensus of opinion all over the internet is that the woman is not a good actress. No one wants to see the relationship between Di Novi and Scanlon continue simply for the fact that watching her scenes are, well, to be quite honest, painful.
David Cubitt is always a delight to watch, even in the crappiest of vehicles (ex I Shot A Man In Vegas, 10.5). I’m sure it cannot be pleasant for him to have to act with her week after week. It would be one thing if they were in an off off off Broadway play, but they are in a Primetime television show that is broadcast into millions of homes each week - lots of advertising dollars are at stake and the big hammer of cancellation looms in the distance, even though the rest of the cast, including the kids, is stellar. She is the one weak link in an otherwise outstanding ensemble of supporting players.
