Is Scanlon in love with Allison?
We have been going on and on here about Scanlon and Allison. (Er, if you do not read the comments here, pretend you know all about this.)
So which is it? Is he or isn’t he? (Poll submitted by Nansee.)

While I have to admit that Scanlon does seem to have an affection for Allison, it seems to be more like a brother/sister relationship than anything else. And you couldn’t possibly believe that Allison would ever look at another man besides Joe. They are just TOO PERFECT together. But since we are on this subject, sort of, let me ask you this. Who do you think Patricia Arquette has better chemistry with, David Cubitt or Jake Weber? Romantic chemistry, that is. I just can’t see Allison and Scanlon together.

I am just totally convinced that Scanlon has been in love with Allison for a long time. I think one reason he now has the strong desire to have children and settle down is in large part due to the time he has spent with Allison and her kids. He sees what a great Mom and wife she is and what a good friend she is to him and Devalos, and even Captain Push - who else camps out in someone’s hospital room and is available at any hour day or night when they call?
Even in an interview Jake Weber speaking as Joe Dubois said, “I think that guy has a jones for my wife - I don’t want him anywhere near her!”.
Would Scanlon ever act on it? I think he is too much of a gentleman to do that. However, if Joe were out of the picture, I don’t think he would hesitate.
I think that’s one reason why Scanlon was hestitating giving DiNovi a key(”Four Dreams”) and actually confided in Allison first. When he was dreaming about having a kid, there was no Di Novi by his side - in fact, the kid was rented! I still fall out of my chair laughing on that one! When asked if he knew how to get one of his own he replies, ” I know people.” Again, fall out of my chair laughing!
In this week’s repeat, “Mother’s Little Helper” just watch the looks he gives Allison.

Okay, here’s my take on it. Scanlon really likes her a lot, but they are just friends, and like the choice I picked above, they have a great relationship. It might come across that he’s in love with her, but they’ve just developed an awesome friendship. Besides, I think that at least for now he has a thing for DiNovi, and she has one back.
And, Dawn, I definitely agree with you. Jake Weber and Patricia Arquette’s romantic chemistry together is so strong; it’s hard for me to imagine Allison with anyone but Joe.

I’m surprised there aren’t any rants! I figured this poll question might drive some fans nuts. Dawn, Betty, and Holly are way too intelligent and rational. Dangit.
Although, did you have to spam filter some posts, Sheila?
I voted for the first one, but I do think Allison is completely oblivious (despite being a mind reader). She did say in “Four Dreams” that she can’t read the people to whom she’s closest.
And, yes, my mind *is* in the gutter! For as long as I can remember.
