Medium Recap Episode: “The Darkness is Light Enough”
Dream:
A cat is walking around, things are in black and white…It sounds like Allison’s voice saying hello.
Allison wakes up and looks over. She then gets back to the dream.
It’s in black and white again and then we see it in color through a camera.
Allison wakes up again, looks around then goes back to sleep.
We see the same black and white image, then an opening eye. Then we see Molly Ringwald’s character Kathleen in bed opening her eyes to a strange black and white figure kissing her.
Then Allison wakes up again startled.
Opening sequence, commercials.
The Dubois are eating breakfast. Bridgette wants to pour her own cereal. Joe walks in groggy. Ariel asks if he wants breakfast, he says no. He goes to the bedroom to talk to Allison. He feels like he can’t keep up with the younger guys he works with. He’s really tired. He feels like the project he’s working on right now is like a contest and if he doesn’t "win" he’ll get fired. Allison says she feels like she never sees him. He walks out without kissing her.
Allison shows up at Manuel’s office. They’re talking about criminals at parole board hearings. He asks her if she wants to come with him. Then they’re at the Prison and she asks Manuel how it works, he explains it. Then we see Mr. Cosgrove. They’re asking him if he regrets killing his wife. Then cut to a slew of other criminals saying they regret their crimes. Then Manuel stands up and says they shouldn’t let him out. Sam Elkin (from 24 season 1) comes up to talk. They ask him to tell them about his crime. he says you know what I did. They said it’s important that they hear it from him. He says he kidnapped his girlfriend, ex girlfriend. He made her drive out to the desert and raped her. then choked her and killed her. He drove back with her dead body, took it to a car wash and walked away. Allison then starts hearing him talking all garbled and demonic. Allison looks really concerned. They ask Manuel what he feels they should do. Manuel suggests he stay in prison another 5 years.
We see an eye again. in black and white Kathleen (Molly Ringwald) in bed…her eyes open and this time it’s the criminal kissing her.
Then Allison wakes up startled. the phone rings. It’s Joe. Allison asks when she’s going to see him again. He jokes about Hell freezing over. He asks her how her day was. She tells him about the parole hearing and apparently she doesn’t think the guy did it. They say they love each other and hang up. Then Allison wakes up startled again and sees Joe and kisses him. She wakes him up by kissing him. he’s groggy and in a bad mood. He wants his suit fixed…
Allison is at the mall and Molly Ringwald is going down the escalator while all is going up and Allison hears Molly tell her friend that she had a dream her boyfriend was kissing her. Allison then goes to Joe’s office to bring him his suit and tells him about her dream. He starts kissing her and Edrick interrupts them. Allison then has a vision of Edrick begging Joe for help.
Allison is at Manuel’s office and wants to know why she wants to revisit the Elkin case. She tells him about the dream. She tells him about seeing the woman at the mall. She thinks there’s some reason why it’s happening.
Allison shows up at an office looking for Scanlon. Then she sees Kathleen (Molly Ringwald) again. She goes up to her and asks if she needs any help. She says she’s been waiting to see a detective since the morning. Allison says she’ll get one of her friends to help her. She then stands up holding a cane, she’s blind.
Kathleen is talking to Lee. She teaches music and moved there. Shortly after she moved in she’d hear noises just after getting into bed. Allison asks if she has pets. She’d call out and nobody would answer. For a long time she’d do nothing. Then the noises started to change. A clicking sound. Allison says a camera. She was wondering if it sounded like a camera. then two nights ago she felt him standing over the bed. Lee asks how she knew he was there. She stands and asks lee to stand up and close his eyes. She stands right by him and then says any questions? He says no and sits down. He kissed me says Kathleen. "What did you do?" Scanlon asks. She screamed and then he was gone. She called the police and they laughed at her. Lee isn’t taking it seriously. She’s annoyed. Lee asks to talk to Allison privately. Allison says she’s being victimized. Lee’s yelling at Allison saying that she’s wasting his time. Allison says she knows the omen was telling the truth. She then tells him that the guy in her dream was the guy in prison. Lee asks what he wants him to do. He then walks up to Kathleen and asks if she knows Sam Elkin. She doesn’t. They’re going to monitor the apartment. She’s really happy. Lee’s being sarcastic about caring about the woman.
A woman is in bed with a blindfold and an old man was watching her. she says hello hello are you watching me?
Allison wakes up. Joe’s worried that he’s going to get fired. He says they didn’t want to hear form him and that it was an Edrick show. He’s really nervous. Allison says the guy bows at his feet. Joe says he’s out to get his job but Joe says he really doesn’t give a damn. He then asks about any more kissing dreams. She says the kissing dreams have stopped.
Allison shows up at Manuel’s office. She tells him about the dreams. Joe’s talking to Edrick about not being able to finish work projects quickly. Edrick says he needs his help. Apparently he sent his stuff down to quality control and they said it was giberish. He asks for his help fixing it.
Allison is at the prison talking to Elkin. She introduces herself. He asks, "You’re here for a thank you? It’s going to be a long wait." She says she just has some questions. He complains about not leaving in a long time. Allison asks him why he said he committed the crime. She wants to know his story and if she believes him she’ll make sure everyone listens.
He says he loved his girlfriend Amanda. Her friends and family didn’t think much of him. They spent almost every day together except Tuesdays. She came up with excuses, then said she had a job, had to work. One night he lost his wallet and went over to her dorm and she wasn’t there at 3 am. She said she was working all night. She wouldn’t tell him what she was doing, but he wouldn’t let it go. Finally she told him she met a man that offered to pay his way through school. Once a week she goes to this guy’s apartment puts on a blind fold on takes off her clothes then goes to bed, then gets up the next morning. He asked if he was there. She said no. He didn’t believe her at first. One night he followed her. She got mad, broke up, and got a restraining order. He stayed away for a month, then one day he broke into her dorm room and they had a huge fight and cry then they made love. He told her he was going to find a way to pay for school. She told him she loved him and missed him. She said she’d quit and tell the guy that night. That was the last time he saw her. Nobody believed him about the story. Now Allison does. She asks if he’s ever met Kathleen Walsh. He says no. "I think she looks a lot like this guy’s next victim."
Allison is back at Manuel’s office talking to Lee and Manuel. She feels the person who was watching Kathleen was also watching Amanda. Manuel tells Allison about reading something about the weird job she had in the police report. Manuel says there was his semen inside her when she was found and that’s conclusive evidence. Allison says they should wire the place up and hide the cops. Manuel thinks it’s crazy. Lee says he doesn’t think Kathleen will be willing to let them not have a police watching her. Manuel calls Kathleen to ask her if they can pull the police presence. She says it was her first night she actually felt alone in a long time. Then Allison sees a man behind her and wakes up.
She calls Lee and tells him the guy is there. He tells her he’ll see what he can do and then call her back. Joe comes and jokes about his wife calling strange men in the middle of the night. Lee calls back and says the cops checked it out and there was nobody there. He’s annoyed because it’s so late.
Back at Manuel’s office. Allison repeats her dream from last night but both Lee and Manuel don’t want to get rid of the police. Everyone is pissed off and they want to pull the plug off of keeping police at Kathleen’s place. Then she realizes that in her dream when she saw the guy there it was 8:11, she says that last night when she had the dream and it’s 8:08 in real time. Allison calls her and tells her to throw the coffee over her right shoulder. Lee calls for backup. She says, "Mom don’t be ridiculous" and then throws her coffee and the man screams and tackles Kathleen and starts choking her. The police come in and arrest him.
Kathleen is in Manuel’s office. He wants to thank her for his bravery; Turns out the bad guy was her neighbor. He did kill Amanda Walsh. When she tried to quit he killed her. After her death he said he only rented the apartment to men. Then she started renting it and his old habits came back. Allison introduces Kathleen and Elkin.
Then Allison and Joe are in bed. He got promoted.

hi, i was wondering if you could help me with the title of the music from this episode? the one which kept on playing every time allison’s dream about kathleen begins. i believe it was also used in episode 7, season 3. :) thank you.

Hi V,
When I did some research, the only thing I could find was that the music for this episode was all either composed or arranged by Jeff Beal. I haven’t been able to get the name of the tune yet.
