I’m soooo excited, I can hardly stand it!

I’ll be checking my PO Box every day looking for it!

Did you notice they advertised the DVD for Season 3 on Lifetime? I only watched it during Medium because they had a rather odd selection of movies on this weekend, so I don’t know if they advertised it any other time. Anyone who watches NBC - have they advertised it there? I haven’t been watching NBC at all this season - when I caught Chuck it was on Bravo last Saturday or Sunday.

Is this actually in stores today and does anyone have it yet (and are the extras any good)? Did you get it in the mail today Betty? I can’t believe I forgot that the Season 3 DVDs were coming out mid-Oct.!

It’s supposed to be in stores today, but in my experience, the stores usually don’t put it on the shelf until late at night. Last year, I went looking for the season 2 set, and the stores didn’t put it on the shelves until the next day. This year, I ordered mine from Amazon and it was supposed to have shipped yesterday, so I’m hoping to have it tonight. I can’t wait to see what they’ve added. I read somewhere that there are deleted scenes, commentaries, gag reels, and a featurette on David Arquette. I guess about the episode he directed. Too bad they don’t do one of those about the other cast members. I’d love to see another one on Patricia and one on Jake. They did one on Patricia on the season one dvd, and then nothing, And the girls were featured prominently on the season two set, so it would be nice to see one on Jake. I could always stand me some more of him.

YIPPEEEE!!! I got my third season dvds last night and it is awesome! Got some great special features. I was up half the night watching them. It was great. I won’t spoil it by telling you about all of them, but the whole set is great. If you haven’t got it, get it!

Also found this great review of the third season and the dvds and it has some really great things to say about the show, and especially about Patricia Arquette. Check it out.

Squeeeeeeee! I’m over the moon! I got my 3rd Season DVD set in the mail today! I pre-ordered it from Amazon.com and they mailed it Friday - I use their free super saver shipping feature (for any orders over $25) which takes a little longer, but, hey, I’m cheap! It arrived today only 1 day after the official release date! I haven’t had the opportunity to watch just yet - I will be staying up tonight for sure! Here’s a list of the special features:

Cast & Crew commentaries on select eps
    Drawing on Dreams
    Directing with David Arquette
    Acting is my “raquet”
The story of Medium Season 3
    Gag Reel
The Making of Medium Season 3

Can’t wait to put it in the DVD player!!!!!!!

Thanks for the link Dawn! That was a great review! Anybody who hasn’t seen the show would be crazy not to after that review and of course, as all of us Medium lovers already know - it’s the BEST show on TV!

You’re welcome, Betty, and I’m sure you’re gonna love the dvds, especially the special features. Pay particular to the “Acting is my ‘Racquet’” featurette. I think you’ll really love that one. I myself particularly enjoyed The Story of Medium, The making of Medium, and the gag reel. Also the feature on David Arquette was nice too.

All in all, another excellent job of packaging the show for the fans and lots of fun behind-the-scenes stuff. Enjoy!

Oh, and that link was the best one I found. There was another one, but the write had some harsh comments, particularly about Patricia’s acting. He said she was stiff and he didn’t like her. He obviously hasn’t seen Deputy Doll’s acting.

I got to watch some of my Season 3 DVD set last night. You’re right Dawn, “Acting is My Racquet” was terrific! Really enjoyed the “making of” and the “story of” for season 3 as well. Haven’t watched the directors thing on DA yet.

I don’t want to spoil the extras for anyone, but I do have to say I was profoundly disappointed at the decision NOT to include the deleted scene in “Second Chances” (wait, is that the right title?). That is the episode that was supposed to be the “Scanloncentric” episode in Season 3 (A Couple of Choices was season 1’s and Knowing Her was season 2’s), but was also the episode where Allison dreams Marie is dying of leukemia in 20 years. The scene that was deleted is a lovely scene between Scanlon and Allison - shows their friendship - shows his little flirty side - but it really, really would have helped the overall feel of the episode. I couldn’t help but think when the episode aired that it seemed that Allison was being very cold to Scanlon - not the usual way she reacted to him - he was reaching out to her for help and she came off as so self-involved that it appeared she just brushed him off and could care less about him or his friend who had died. This was not the Allison we have come to know and love who has always been so concerned about those around her. The Allison who went to visit Captain Push in the hospital when he was in a coma, the Allison who was at Devalos bedside when he was diagnosed with Diabetes, the Allison who dreamed about Scanlon and Elena and Elena gouging Scanlon’s eyes out kept reaching out to him and Devalos because she was so worried about him.

The deleted scene, IMO, was crucial to the plot and helped it to make more sense. That scene showed the lovely freindship they have developed over the years and showed how he really does depend on Allison a lot of times to fill in the gaps in the clues. When I originally watched the episode, I kept thinking it didn’t feel complete, and for a Scanloncentric episode, it was lacking. That relationship between Scanlon and Allison is what it was missing - it was in that deleted scene! Scanlon confides in Allison, but that was missing in this ep because it ended up on the cutting room floor. BAD DECISION on whoever edited this episode.

I have not as yet watched all of the deleted scenes - there are a few - not a lot - for particular episodes. The Whole Truth and the Profiler episode both have deleted scenes included - it will be interesting to see if the deleted scenes make these episodes more palatable - these seemed to be the least favorite episodes of a lot of people and it could come down to the editing. Might not make a difference, but I know it did in the Scanlon episode.

Go out and buy your Season 3 DVD of Medium and enjoy!

According to the commentary Season 4 will be more challenging for Allison because there will be people doubting her at every turn due to her outing. Concesquences will be in the forefront for Scanlon, Devalos, and Joe, too. Doesn’t sound like everything will be back to normal when Season 4 starts. Can’t wait! You really have to give GGC props for having a vision for each season that keeps Allison changing and growing and those around her. Other shows get stale because it’s the same old thing. House is one I’m so over. It’s gotten so formulaic - I’m not taking anything away from Hugh Laurie who does a fantastic job acting wise, it’s just so predictable. The things they throw in are more bothersome - like the cop who was hell bent on House going to jail for his addiction to pain killers - too tedious and annoying.

It just goes to show Medium is one of the BEST shows on the air with a great producing and writing staff! Maybe now that GGC is devleoping another show for CBS Paramount, let’s hope he’ll write a part for his wife so we don’t have to see her anymore! (aka Lynn DiNovi or Deputy Doll)

Thanks for everyone’s info about the DVDs, and for the link to the review, Dawn. I went and bought it at lunch and now can’t wait to get home to watch it, esp. the extras. I think I’m coming down with a cold and will have to leave early …

Betty, where did you see that deleted scene from “Second Chances”? Is it online? From you description, it sounds great. Thanks!

    Oct 18, 2007 at 1:40 pm

nansee, it’s on Disc 4 of the DVD set - the deleted scenes, if any, are with the episode, not with the other special features. Look for that episode title and it will give you the option to watch the deleted scene.

Funny how sometimes they will have a deleted scene that I cannot for the life of me see any difference than the one on the show and others like this one (2nd Chances) never made it to air. Too bad. I think this one would have changed the whole tone of that episode.

Betty, I don’t remember that scene with Scanlon and Allison, so I really couldn’t say if it would have made the episode better or not. I didn’t really see that episode as Scanloncentric, because to me, it was more about Allison’s fear for her daughter’s life and what she was going to do with this information. Yeah, that was a big story for Scanlon, but I didn’t see it as a whole episode geared toward him. Not in the way that “Whatever Possessed You” was geared around Devalos. Of course, it probably didn’t hurt that Miguel Sandoval directed himself in that episode. Maybe if the other actors got to direct an episode, they could each do a show about their character. Ya think?

I haven’t listened to all the commentaries yet, mainly because I was disappointed that more of the cast wasn’t featured in the commentaries. It was mostly the producers (has anyone noticed how many freaking producers this show has?!) and Miguel Sandoval (he always does at least one commentary (I think he likes to hear himself talk). I was hoping to see more of Jake Weber in this set, but instead we get more of Miguel.

Has anyone seen the gag reel yet? Cause I don’t want to spoil it for anyone, but there’s one particularly funny clip when Jake asks Patricia “when is this director gonna get his head out of his a**?” and she replies in a sing-song voice “NEVER!!” and then adds “it’s way up there”. I noticed that that scene was from “Whatever Possessed You” and the director in question was Miguel. Talk about giving your boss a hard time. And then Jake asks Patricia another, more personal question, and her response is too funny.

I’m probably going to have a Medium marathon this weekend and watch all the shows with the special features and commentaries. I’m curious to hear what GGC had to say about season four.

Dawn, I had read before that episode aired about it being the Scanloncentric episode for Season 3, and let me correct the title, it’s “Second Opinion” not 2nd Chances - I knew that wasn’t right when I typed it, but you know, that old timer’s disease.

Of course, they must include the Allison stuff because the show is, after all, Medium. I think when you view that deleted scene, you will see how that scene was much more crucial to the episode, to the season, and to the relationship Scanlon & Allison have developed. A lot of people thought the episode was too much of a downer with so much time concentrated on the scenes of a dying Marie. I thought they could have easily left out that scene with Allison and the cancer doctor where he mentions a restraining order against her and the gun and all. I think that just made her look crazy rather than grieving.

The episode would have been much more balanced with the deleted scene and given Scanlon the on-screen time he deserves.

I must warn people, there is one thing on this DVD set that ticks me off - on the first DVD, they’ve included commercials for Twin Peaks and Ghost Whisperer of all things! I can see when I rent a DVD there are ads included, but when I buy a set like this, I don’t except to have to sit through commericals before I can get to the first DVD offering.

Wow, this really sounds great! I won’t get it until Christmas (DVD season sets are so expensive). I do have every episode on my DVR, but actually being able to watch it in my bedroom without the commercials will be great!

I know what you guys are talking about in Second Opinion–that episode was way to dry for me. It really needed a little something extra to give it that real feel that I get from most of the episodes. It should be interesting to see the deleted scenes from The Whole Truth as well, because that is by far my least favorite episode of Medium ever. The special features sound great. I would also like to see more cast commentaries–not that I have anything against Miguel Sandoval, I just want more!

I’m happy to hear that they’re not going to gloss over the events of last season. There needs to be some consequences.

And about that House comment, that show still has me every week, one of the few shows I actually take the time out of my schedule to watch. It’s getting me through until Medium starts up again.

Betty, I watched the deleted scene and you’re completely right! That scene provided a transition between the two plots … and can now fuel my A/S fanfic ;) They communicated and you could see how they try to be there for each other. I loved how Allison gave Lee a cup of coffee and then poured milk in it. Very cute.

hey I order just the monent someone puts it on Amazon.co.uk as no small little guy has done it yet, yes you can buy region 1 to your heart’s desire on azamon does as long as it ain’t off them here in Britain (nuts right).

If anyone knows someone willing to sell it the minute it out tht be cool.

Hey Holly as for price, you paying nothing compare to what I aid for Buffy (£70) or West Wing (£50) and just think that West Wing had no extras unlike the US ones , come to think of it niether do the Medium ones

  • Betty
    Oct 22, 2007 at 12:00 pm

nansee, I’m glad you agree. Aren’t you mad at whoever edited that episode for leaving that clip on the cutting room floor? Darn it all - it would have made “Second Opinion” so much better!

Let me know when you complete your fanfic -I’d love to read it!

Another episode where they left out a good Scanlon/Allison scene was the Dr. Walker episode in Season 3. Scanlon (wearing a nice striped shirt I’ve never seen him wear before) and Allison are arguing about the level of security he has on the girl she saw at the grocery store that she THOUGHT Walker was after. Too bad they left that one on the cutting room floor also because that episode could have used some more Scanlon!

They also left out one very brief scene in “A Very Merry Maggie” between Allison and Joe - she is taking the doll somewhere and Joe asks her, “What, are you going to question the doll? Don’t you have to have a lawyer doll present?” Allison snarks back, “Why don’t you call Scanlon. I’m sure the two of you will yuck it up.” I don’t think those are the exact words, but close. Scanlon had one of the funniest scenes of the entire 3rd season with that crack about Raggedy Ann!

Hi Betty–I’d actually forgotten that I’d posted a fanfic until today when I received a review alert from fanfiction.net (Fortunately it wasn’t someone yelling in all caps for once about how dare I speculate about A/S … yea!) I never finished the story (”Call Waiting”) … maybe some day. I had an outline, but it was a while ago. If you do read it, note that I wrote it before the S2 (Was it S2 or S1? I can’t remember) finale with Jag so I didn’t rip off the Medium writers lol

Thanks Nansee! I’ll have to go over there and read it. Hope you get to finish it one day soon.

I find it interesting that after going back to my Season 3 DVD and re-watching the extras, they DID NOT include those deleted scenes from the 3 episode arc that ended the season that everyone was talking about having seen in the previews. I don’t think the deleted scenes in this case really made any difference to the tone or the plot and again, one of the scenes didn’t seem any different to one that did make it to air.

I really have a new appreciation for the creative process and vision of GGC and the direction he takes Medium and the characters -except for his wife, of course, where I’m sure the familial relationship clouds his judgement.

It’s really funny to listen to Miguel and David talk about their obsession with ping pong and how they have sucked in some crew members. They are so competitive, they actually take ping pong lessons from someone. David is even wearing one shirt over another in one of the setside interviews - I assume it’s to keep his wardrobe shirt clean while he plays so he’s ready to go back to filming.

I enjoy the Season 3 DVD set even more each time I go back and watch a feature again or one of the episodes!

If you don’t know have the DVD set, ask for it for Christmas!

Anyone know of a Region 2 release of series 3? I have 1 and 2. Also, why don’t we get any of the bonus stuff that Region 1 gets? Region 2 gets only the episodes, which is fine really I suppose. As long as it comes out!!! :( I hope so.

hey I thought of something dumb to say which is
Look into get a player that plays Region 1, it great you get the discs eariler (strangely not true what 2 years back) and you invariler get all the extras (ie look at West Wing, Friday Night Lights, 30 Rock as well as Medium (not true for Bones thought))
It also cheaper they are like £25 a set and £2-3 postage off Amazon rather then the £40 we pay

  • Ben

Cheers. I’ll think about it. Only just got a new one so probably not right now. :) Thanks though. You English?

Oh and reading all this back I read people talking about House. House is no way same old same old. He got rid of his whole team. If that’s not daring writing, I don’t know what is. House is still the greatest show on earth. :)
