My Sister’s Keeper Update

by Katelyn on January 6th, 2009

Film Gecko has just posted a preview of Warner’s 2009 movies that includes the news that My Sister’s Keeper will be in theatres May of 2009. This means we’ll get to see at least one Medium character in something new after season five has ended. What a great way to start the summer, huh?

By the way, if you haven’t read the book yet (or even if you have) are you interested in an online discussion group? There are some great questions on Jodi Picoult’s website and the book is a fascinating read. (Sorry. I have to plug reading. It’s in the librarian code of ethics…) Or if you don’t want to do an official book discussion, maybe you just want to answer one big question. What would you do if you had one child dying and another child that could save the first child’s life? Would you draw the line at one or two medical procedures, not allow any procedures at all, or require the second child to be a constant parts supply for the first? Keep in mind, the second child in this case was specifically created by her parents to supply the first child with the necessary parts.

1 opinion for My Sister’s Keeper Update

I haven’t read this story, but it sounds similar to the Annisa Ayala story - a girl who’s parent conceived a 2nd child because the 1st needed a bone marrow transplant. It saved her life. I would hope only one procedure would be necessary - it would have to come down to risk for both children and not endangering one for the sake of the other. Quality of life has to enter in somewhere - if that’s thrown out the window that would be wrong. Tough choices. Sometimes you have to stop and just give it to God.
