Nine Episodes of Season Four of Medium
Betty has news on the number of Season 4 shows we’ll have if the strike doesn’t end soon:
In the thread about game shows replacing striking shows etc, Dawn wondered how many eps Medium had - if it was 8 or 9 as they had already filmed that many or if they had more. Ausiello has a report of many of the current and returning shows on how many will be produced (without an end to the writers strike any time soon) how many have aired and how many are left - according to this list, Medium will produce 9 and since none have aired yet, there will be 9 new episodes.
Most other shows are listed or he hasn’t found out yet if they are not listed - it is a really good report for a change and I’m actually surprised he bothered to include Medium since TV Guide tends to ignore it!
I guess we are actually pretty fortunate that we have this many episodes to enjoy.

7 opinions for Nine Episodes of Season Four of Medium

Katelyn, I read somewhere that most, or all of the one hour dramas should have 11-12 episodes completed. But I also read that Medium would have nine eps completed, but since they’re still filming I wondered if that was true for them as well. I would like to think that they would have 11-12 eps finished, but seems everyone is reporting that they’ll have nine, so it seems like that’s the magic number. I only hope that the strike ends soon so that they can continue filming. I hate to think of all those people, who are not in the WGA, who are out of work, or soon will be. Variety is reporting that the networks(or studios) may soon start sending out suspension or termination notices to the actors, which sounds bad too.

Dawn and anyone else interested can go to TV Guide.com and look up this week’s Ausiello report - it really is quite nice and lists many shows and details the number of episodes that are completed, have aired, and how many are left. Obviously it’s been a slow week with the writer’s strike so he had plenty of time.

I’ve been to TV Guide and they’re all saying pretty much the same thing. Besides, I don’t care too much for TV Guide, or Ausiello. They’re too biased in their reporting. I prefer some of the other sites that are more balanced in their coverage. If anyone just went to TV Guide and didn’t know better, they’d swear there were only four of five shows on TV. So I read the other sites that are less biased, like Zap2It or TV Squad.

Zap 2 It is now reporting that some actors contracts are being suspended due to the strike and a clause in their contracts that allows them to do so when “outside forces” interfere with the work. Michelle Ryan of Bionic Woman and Alec Baldwin of 30 Rock have had their contracts suspended which according to Zap 2 It, they will be paid at half their salaries for up to 5 weeks and then depending on the status of the strike, may cancel their contract, resume their contract, or the actor may also choose to be released from their contracts. These actors are employed by Universal which has taken this action.
Wow, I sure hope these people start talking soon. The stagehands for Broadway shows are scheduled to talk this weekend - that’s good news, I just wish whoever is holding up the talks for the writers would get off their high horses and sit down and negotiate in good faith.
I want my Medium back NOW! A whole 22 episodes, please - don’t want any excuses for NBC to not renew Medium or to lose the actors.

I read the same thing, Betty. I just hope this thing ends before more people get laid off. I also read that the writers in France and Italy are threatening to strike as well, and the international unions are supporting the WGA. I doubt this will have much impact on the strike, but it would be great if all this saber-rattling around the world convinced the studios to sit down and negotiate. Right now, both sides look like a couple of kids in a schoolyard standoff. They’d better get talking soon or they’re gonna lose a lot more than just a few cents on the dollar. The viewers, including me, are going to start turning away from television in droves if this thing doesn’t end soon.
I say we all start writing to the networks and threaten to boycott every one of them until they start talking again. Anybody with me?

My main hope for Season 4 is that the show shakes things up a bit (I enjoyed Season 3 but thought it was becoming really formulaic, you know…just the same old thing). I’d really like to see more 2 or 3 episode story arcs like the last 3 episodes of Season 3. I’d like to see the story get back on track to reflecting the life of the real Allison. I’d like to see the lab research, and the pursuing mediumship as a career.
And, as much as I liked D.A. Devalos and Detective Scanlon…I really feel like the story needs to move away from that setup..it seems like they’ve exhausted the story options. This was most noticable during “The Whole Truth”, it was a good episode but so similar to so many other episodes we’ve already seen.
Just my two cents…still a BIG fan of Medium and will watch it as long as it’s on and continue to buy the DVD sets.
