Open Mic for Primetime Emmy Awards
It is finally here! The big day we’ve been discussing for months. So, grab your snacks, your notebooks (so you don’t forget who has the worst outfit and who won awards they shouldn’t have gotten.) and let’s start the party. That’s right, everyone, tonight is our open mic Emmy celebration. Now, let’s hope we have something to celebrate. One of our favorite Medium stars has a chance to win awards tonight.
For our party tonight, I have chips, salsa, a big cake that says “Medium Deserves a Ton of Emmys” and a ton of buttery popcorn. (If you’re on a diet or watching your fat intake, I have some plain popcorn, too.)

Ok, not much action yet, so I’m running out to the store to grab some supplies. I’ll pick up a bottle of Champagne and I hope we need to break it open to celebrate Patricia’s win!

It starts in 20 minutes and I still haven’t seen her!! Either she’s running late or they just decided not to interview her.

Hi, Katelyn
I finally made it. Has anyone seen Patricia yet? I bet they didn’t even interview her, as usual. I missed the pre-awards shows. I’m hoping to catch them if they re-air them.
I really, really, really hope Patricia wins tonight. If she does, I’ll bring CAVIAR to go with that champagne!
Jeremy Piven just won Supp. actor in a Comedy. Again. Big surprise.

Good grief, what is Vanessa wearing? She’s usually pretty tasteful, but it looks like she lost a pillowfight on the way to the Emmy awards!

Lol, Katelyn. You’re right. She looks almost as bad as she did at the Globes.
I love those pics of Patricia at the pre-Emmy party. Those are the first pics I’ve seen of her in all the pre-Emmy stuff. Not even the gifting suites.
I read that the Clothes Off Our Back foundation is having a Little Black Dress Emmy auction for charity. I wonder if Patricia is going to auction the dress she was wearing. It’s beautiful, though it’s not like I could ever wear it. Lol.

I like Julia L. Dreyfuss’ dress.

Jennifer Love Hewitt dresses so nicely. I love her dress, as always.

George Bush dropped his Scottie. I’m certainly glad my Scottie, Sophie, was looking away during that clip. She has a crush on Barney.

I REALLY don’t like GA, so I couldn’t care less. She is totally unprepared though.
Thanks for the pics of Patricia. She looks FABULOUS, doesn’t she? Her dress is GORGEOUS and her hair is SO cool. Love the casual look. I wonder if she’s flying solo tonight.
I can’t wait for her category. That’s really the only one I’m interested in. Where did you get those pics, by the way? I’d love to see more of those, and the ones from the pre-Emmy party.

Dawn,
Search Gettyimages.com for Patricia Arquette. I can’t get an actual link to the results to work - it just flips you back to the main page.

Yaay! Robert Duvall won! I love him. He’s great. SO happy for him.

I guess singing a solo is a lot for him, but it was an odd combo!

Thanks for the tip about the pics, Katelyn. I saw a couple but I couldn’t open them up. I guess they’re afraid of someone cribbing them. But she does look gorgeous, doesn’t she?

I’m glad “Broken Trail” won. It was great.

Broken Trail was fantastic.

Broken Trail was fantastic. I think all the men look like they’ve escaped from Happy Feet, personally.

Whose hairstyle are you talking about, Katelyn? Patricia or Latifah? I love Patricia’s though.
What is with Hayden P’s dress? She looks pregnant, doesn’t she?

Oh,no. Don’t tell me it’s gonna be a Sopranos sweep.

Sorry, Katelyn. My computer goofed. Lol.

Agghh. The site went down for a moment and we have double posts. Yes, Hayden looks pregnant.
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 6:16 pm
Another win for Sopranos. Looks like it might be a sweep, darnit!
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 6:17 pm
Oops, I’m not keeping up. Patricia’s hairstyle. She looks much more rested than a few months ago, doesn’t she? I hope that means she’s feeling much better.
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 6:19 pm
I thought the last season of Sopranos was kind of flat. I didn’t watch most of it because it just didn’t hold my interest. I think they are passing over some very deserving people from other shows just because this is the last chance to give Sopranos an award.
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 6:22 pm
Yeah, Patricia does look much more rested and relaxed. Guess her summer vacation did her a lot of good. She looks fantastic.
Yeah, the Sopranos was kind of dull this season, but what do you want to bet that it sweeps? I hope Edie Falco doesn’t win. Not that she isn’t great, but her submission wasn’t as good as some of her previous work.
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 6:23 pm
Good for Jon Stewart. He’s really funny.

Sep 16, 2007 at 6:33 pm
Sorry, Katelyn. I was browsing, searching for more pics of Patricia from the show and preshow activities.
Where is everyone else? Nothing against you, but I was hoping there would be more here tonight.
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 6:37 pm
Yes, I was hoping some more would show up, too. I guess they are on the West Coast.
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 6:49 pm
Maybe so, Katelyn, but we’ll make it a party ourselves.
I’ve been searching for new pics of Patricia, but the only ones I could find are small and watermarked. Darnit.
Oh, well, more will show up eventually.
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 6:50 pm
I think Debra really did well. I’m kind of disappointed that she didn’t win.
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 6:50 pm
Loved the Jersey Boys salute to the Sopranos.
Sally Field looks great too. Patrick D isn’t too bad tonight either.
Another win for Helen Mirren. A hat trick for her! All three major awards in one year! WoW!
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 6:52 pm
Too bad for Debra and for Queen Latifah.
Correction: all FOUR major awards for Miss Mirren. AMAZING!

Lewis Black. I LOVE this guy! He’s hilarious! And I LOVE what he’s saying! TOO TRUE!! How many times have you thought the same thing? Lol.
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 6:55 pm
It is amazing. She’s going to have to build herself an addition to hold Emmy statues. Lewis Black is like that cranky uncle we all think is hilarious unless he’s talking about us!
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 6:56 pm
That dress has a gorgeous back, but what is going on in front?
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 6:57 pm
How many of these insipid nothing categories are we going to have to sit through before we get to the REAL categories?
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 6:58 pm
I have a dreadful sinking feeling that they will do the big awards at the very end to keep people watching through all the rest.
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 6:58 pm
Lol, Katelyn. Love that about Lewis Black.
Another TWO awards for “Prime Suspect”. Wow!
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:02 pm
You’re probably right, Katelyn. How else would they keep us interested? This is not one of the most exciting awards shows I’ve ever seen.
I’m preparing myself for the disappointment when Patricia loses. AGAIN. I just have a feeling she’s going to, as bad as I want her to win.
Katelyn, did you hear about the Clothes Off Our Back “Little Black Dress Emmys” auction for charity? I wonder if Patricia will donate the dress she wore to the pre-Emmy party?
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:03 pm
I’m considering bidding on that teapot she designed. It’s beautiful, and it would be a great addition to my collection of memorabilia.
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:03 pm
Prime Suspect is a good, solid mystery series, so I guess it deserves that many awards. I just feel a bit sorry for shows it was up against that were good and didn’t get one award.
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:06 pm
Ohmigod. AL GORE won an Emmy! This is weird. What’s next? An Oscar for George Bush?
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:07 pm
I did hear about the auction, but I guarantee I won’t fit it if she does donate it…I’ve been sitting on my sofa all summer, staring at walls and wishing I was hiking. Soo boring. I guess I could always hang it in my closet until I got back in shape.
The teapot is lovely - a deceptively simple, balanced design.
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:08 pm
You’re right about Prime Suspect, Katelyn. Same goes for other categories. There are so many deserving nominees that it’s a shame that they can’t all get an award.
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:08 pm
Brad Garrett is TOO funny!
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:09 pm
He probably deserves something for all the slips of the tongue and tripping incidents. Maybe a “Best unscripted moments this year” Emmy?
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:10 pm
Tony Bennett won. I think he’s gonna cry!
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:10 pm
President Bush, not Brad Garrett.

I’m glad they aren’t showing Kathy Griffin on this show. After her speech, I’ve lost all respect for her.
I LOVE Elaine Stritch. She’s HILARIOUS!
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:14 pm
I have never been easy and my quotes have always been up. She is funny.
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:17 pm
Have you ever seen Stritch do stand-up? Now THAT’s funny.
How many more of these silly categories are there?
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:18 pm
It’s after 6. What am I? A farmer? I haven’t watched 30 Rock, but that was a pretty good line. Maybe I should reconsider.
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:19 pm
I hope there’s nothing between comedy and us.
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:19 pm
Agghh. Reality TV and more comedy.
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:20 pm
I’ve never watched that show either, Katelyn, but that was funny.
I always forget when it’s on. Plus I’m not a big fan of the actors on the show, so I’ve just never watched.
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:23 pm
This is getting ridiculous. Between all the commercials and the endless categories, it’s so boring so far.
It’s almost tempting to turn it off. I would if it weren’t for that sliiiim chance that Patricia MIGHT win tonight. I’m beginning to think if she does win, it’ll be a miracle. All of the critics have been picking averyone except Patricia to win. It would be such a kick in the head if she won.

Katelyn

Yes, it does seem to be dragging on here. Well, if you do turn in, it is only a few hours until the morning news and they’ll probably recap then.

This singing thing is STUPID!
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:28 pm
This singing episode is torture.
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:28 pm
It would be hilarious to see Simon Cowell rib him, wouldn’t it?
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:29 pm
TORTURE!!!
Thank goodness that’s over!
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:29 pm
It would. It would even be worth having to wait a few minutes to hear whether Patricia won or not.
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:31 pm
There’s still at least six awards to go. This thing is going to run long, darnit!
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:33 pm
Did you hear what Ryan said to Paula Abdul at the beginning of the show? It was great.
He made a crack about the “Weeds” afterparty, and said “It’s great, right, Paula?”
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:33 pm
Ah well, I’m sure the school will understand me oversleeping and missing homeroom because the Emmy awards ran over…
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:34 pm
Do you think Paula Abdul is really that out of it or is she putting some of it on? I can’t imagine being able to function if I was like that all the time.
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:35 pm
I have my doubts about whether she’s faking it. It’s just too bizarre to be an act.
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:38 pm
Love Colbert and Stewart together. Hilarious!!
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:39 pm
Yes. It’s kind of a shame he spun off with his own show because they make an amazing team.
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:41 pm
Felicity’s dress is doing some kind of odd thing in the front, too. Oh my. We’re here.
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:41 pm
OHMIGOD!! Here it is!
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:41 pm
Are you kidding me? She was a supporting actress.
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:41 pm
DARNIT!!! Sally Field AGAIN!!!
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:42 pm
That is SO WRONG!! Her tape was SO weak that she shouldn’t have even been nominated.
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:43 pm
I thought maybe The Closer if Patricia didn’t get it. I’m going to go cry myself to sleep!
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:44 pm
Patricia got ROBBED!! AGAIN!!! DARNIT!!!!
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:44 pm
I know. She won for being Sally Field, not for her actual performance. And best actress. Seriously, I still don’t understand why she was in this category.
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:44 pm
I’m with you, Katelyn! This is depressing!!
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:46 pm
It’s a shame when someone can win because of their name instead of their actual work. That is wrong.
I love her, but she shouldn’t have even been in this category. That was robbery!
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:49 pm
And my sister just walked in and said, “Who? I watched that once and she wasn’t very good. I can’t believe she won.” And she doesn’t even follow the Emmy stuff. Well, I guess I’ll break open the Champagne anyway. Want some?
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:49 pm
Maybe Patricia will win at the Golden Globes or the SAGs next year. Hopefully she’ll be nominated.
Did you notice that the pics of Patricia they showed when the names were announced were from “The One Behind the Wheel”? I wonder what that was about. I’m pretty sure that she didn’t change her submission. What was up with that?
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:50 pm
Yeah, Katelyn, I’ll use the champagne to drown my sorrows. And maybe next year, Patricia will have better luck.
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:52 pm
Oh,well. I’m through with this show. As usual, they screwed up. I don’t know if I’ll stick around for the rest of the awards. I don’t really have any interest in the other awards.
Dawn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:53 pm
What’s really disappointing is that I haven’t even seen Patricia at all tonight? If it weren’t for the pics, I would doubt that she was there.
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:54 pm
I don’t think she changed it. Debra Messing looked nice.
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:55 pm
What is with this weird dress style?
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 7:56 pm
Yes, I was hoping for some glimpses in the audience. I saw Kyra a few times. Well, if you are turning in, I’ll say goodnight. I’m going to stick it out until the very bitter end.
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 8:03 pm
Wow. I can’t believe America didn’t win for Ugly Betty. All kinds of surprises.
Katelyn
Sep 16, 2007 at 8:04 pm
Well, for those of you joining late, please feel free to jump in. I’ve got to turn in if I have any hope of getting up early tomorrow.
Betty
Sep 17, 2007 at 12:47 pm
Katelyn, didn’t you mean to say America Ferrera DID win for Ugly Betty?
I thought it was quite funny really in a night where at least half of the women show up in very low cut dresses and dresses that show major amounts of skin front and back and Jennifer Love Hewitt who constanly wears things on Ghost Whisperer that are way to low cut for daytime and work clothing - always showing major cleavage on the show - shows up at the Emmys wearing a strapless black dress that really doesn’t show her cleavage and actually minimizes the size of her boobs? That just struck me as funny.
I really didn’t see anyone who I thought was dressed badly - except for one man with a doo rag on his head which looked ridiculous - and Melora Hardin had on this sherbet multi-colored dress that did nothing for her - it just kind of hung on her and made her look shapeless - the colors were pretty in it - it just didn’t seem suited to her. Lisa Rinna talked to her for a long time - why? I’ve heard of MH, I just have no idea if she is even currently in any show. Why did she get so much screen time?
Katelyn
Sep 17, 2007 at 2:22 pm
Yes, I think I was brain dead by then. America did win.
