Medium Dreams

Open Mic Night: The One Behind the Wheel

by Sheila on February 14th, 2007

FREE-FOR-ALL IN THE COMMENTS!

Welcome to Open Mic Night at Medium Dreams. Each Wednesday we open up the comments so you can talk amongst yourselves before, during, and after the show. This week’s episode is The One Behind the Wheel (MED-049), where Allison wakes up as a completely different person and slaps the crap out of Joe before he is fully awake. Should be a fun episode.

Come to this post before, during, and/or after the show to chat about Medium in the comments. Talk about the show. Gossip about the actors. Meet some of your fellow readers and commenters.

The official start is 6:00pm PST / 9:00pm ET but really, comment any time. If you are reading this post, comments are open.

“Official start” really just means “when Sheila gets home from work” and can participate without fear of her boss saying, “Are you blogging on company time?” To which she can truthfully reply “no” because commenting on a blog is not blogging, but he barely knows what a blog is so she dare not confuse the issue. Good grief, why am I talking about myself in the third person?

See you later this evening.

Yea! Once again we have FINALLY come to Wednesday, my favorite night of the week! Once again, I will be lurking with my cell phone at home reading the emails, unfortunately, I can’t join in during the live part, but I will be reading and responding tomorrow. Sounds like another great episode! Those writers are so clever!

Hey, if anyone wants to pass the time while waiting to watch tonight’s episode, you can watch the Medium slide show I made today (what you can do with a snow day). It is the first one I have ever made, so don’t be too mean. You can find it here:

FINALLY! I thought this night would never get here. I can’t wait to see tonight’s ep and hear what everyone else has to say about it. While I can’t join live, I will be eagerly reading everyone’s thoughts and will post mine later. This one should be really good!

    Hey, Holly
    That was great! Good job!

  • Holly
    Feb 14, 2007 at 4:48 pm

Really? Thanks Dawn! I worked really hard on it, and when it was done it wasn’t as cool as I thought it would be.

Holly, we are our own worst critics. Give yourself some credit. I know I could never do something like that. I’m completely clueless when it comes to that kind of stuff.

Hi Everyone, didn’t know if any of you would be intrested but I saw where Allison DuBois is going to be on Oprah Tomorrow. Glad to see I’m not the only one that can’t wait for Wednesday to get here.

  • Holly
    Feb 14, 2007 at 6:25 pm

Oh my gosh, Tracey, I just checked and you’re right. That is awesome. I can’t wait. It should be really neat!

Hola! The staying late at work thing is yucky. That goodness I had Medium to look forward to. So where are we…?

Oh Holly! I love your video. I am posting it here later tonight or tomorrow. Hee!

Tracey: JCW emailed me about that last night and we were so busy emailing back and forth I completely forgot to post it. Thanks! I am going to put one up in a jiffy.

The East Coast is already half way through the show. Lucky poops.

I’m in for tonight, but I’ve got to do some work for a little while. Talk to you in a bit!

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 7:39 pm

Yay! I think everyone else is watching the East Coast show while I sit here wondering what possessed me to eat what probably amounts to an entire box of chocolate today.

It was spaced out: breakfast chocolate, lunch chocolate, afternoon snack chocolate, just one piece before I drive home chocolate, and oh look Kate brought chocolate home from work let me try that brand chocolate.

    Oh barf.

  • Tracey
    Feb 14, 2007 at 7:42 pm

Sheila, where you are isn’t airing the show yet? Because I am half way through it.

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 7:49 pm

Nope. I’m on the West Coast. It is very annoying. Feel free to tell us what is happening! How is it? Is Allison’s possessor a hoochie-mama or just cranky?

Does anyone know the name of the song or artist featured in The One Behind the Wheel?

  • Tim
    Feb 14, 2007 at 8:22 pm

I would like to know more about the song/artist. Can anyone remember what the words were each time he thought she was back as good ol’ Allison?

  • Will
    Feb 14, 2007 at 8:24 pm

Would also like to know who the song/artist was on tonights show too.. Nora Jones?

  • Allie
    Feb 14, 2007 at 8:26 pm

The artist is Corinne Bailey Rae, the song is called “Like a Star.”

  • Tracey
    Feb 14, 2007 at 8:36 pm

Was a good show, was a slight hoochie-mama, but as Joe says was more of a spoiled brat. Are you all watching yet.

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 8:38 pm

It is only 8:38 here. *sigh* 1 1/2 hours to go.

  • Tracey
    Feb 14, 2007 at 8:46 pm

Oh, Well I don’t want to spoil it for you but if there is anything you want to know I’ll answer it for you.

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 8:55 pm

Nah, I will wait. But thanks, Tracey. However, if you and anyone else want to yack about the episode, I will close my e-eyes and sing Old MacDonald Had a Farm so I don’t e-hear you. :)

  • Tracey
    Feb 14, 2007 at 9:36 pm

Don’t worry this episode is worth the wait, will say I loved Allison’s slight accent.

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 9:40 pm

I just watched the video over on the NBC website and heard the accent. She sounds so snooty! Heh.

  • Dawn
    Feb 14, 2007 at 9:44 pm

This was GREAT! Definitely worth the wait! I LOVED IT! You’re in for a treat, Sheila. Let me know what you think after you’ve seen it. Meantime I think I’ll watch it again.

    Ooh, ooh it’s starting!

    Rayon!

I am LOVING IT. She is such a snot!

  • Jenn Bo
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:06 pm

Did you get the commercial for the premonition movie? Looks interesting.

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:09 pm

Yes I did and yes it does.

Bridgette has 7 boyfriends? The little trollop. Hee!

Ooh Allison is pulling up aty some big mansion.

  • Jenn Bo
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:12 pm

She’s the only one who thinks she is this other person. For some reason, this episode makes me giggle.

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:13 pm

You are a repugnant human being. Heh.

  • nansee
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:15 pm

Well, I missed the whole thing live b.c of Valentines-D and my evil (nice) boyfriend who dared take me out to dinner on a Medium night.

I just watched it on tape. Not a bad ep. PA is a great actress, and David Cubitt is a doll and a half.

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:15 pm

Who does she see in the mirror, or has she not looked yet?

  • Jenn Bo
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:18 pm

Ah, SHE’s certifiable. The mirror image was cool!

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:19 pm

Yeah, reminded me of Quantum Leap. I especially liked the episodes where Scott Bakula looked in the mirror and saw he was in the body of a girl.

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:20 pm

Happy Valentines Day! Thanks for the reminder, Nansee.

  • nansee
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:21 pm

Patricia is great. Her acting is so much better than anyone else on network TV.

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:21 pm

Sooooo, Scanlon said the real Sandra is very much alive but how does he know that? Has he seen her or did the husband just tell him that?

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:22 pm

Oh no! Not the Crazy House!

  • Jenn Bo
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:22 pm

I hadn’t thought about Quantum Leap for a long time. Oh, now this is sad, mental hospital…

  • Tracey
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:25 pm

    Sandra alive is the twist.

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:25 pm

All those night Joe complained about being awakened in the middle of the night…and now he sleeps alone.

  • Jenn Bo
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:28 pm

Ah, the real lady WAS alive, but seems to be not so much now. Or maybe just unconscious.

  • Dawn
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:28 pm

I know. Don’t you feel sorry for him, though?

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:28 pm

Well that tree jumped right of nowhere, didn’t it?

And isn’t the husband the guy who played the Chimera on an episode of CSI?

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:31 pm

So everyone thinks they are at their vacation home incognito but they are really dying on the side of the road somewhere? Or did the husband survive but bury her out in the desert? Hm.

  • Jenn Bo
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:33 pm

    Oh, she’s being tricky!

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:35 pm

    WHAT is going on??

  • Jenn Bo
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:35 pm

mmmh, very perplexing. Wonder why she’s got the woman’s memory.

  • Jenn Bo
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:37 pm

I couldn’t even imagine what it would be like to wake up in a world where I don’t believe I have 3 children, but actually do.

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:38 pm

But the woman also has her own memory. Weird. Wonder where the husband’s lover is.

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:41 pm

The GIRLS! And I am not talking about the kids.

  • Jenn Bo
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:42 pm

I think my favourite quote of the night is “Maybe, I’ll just call them ‘girls’” hahaha

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:46 pm

    Awwwwwwww, what a sweet guy.

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:50 pm

Is she her twin sister or did they do the plastic surgery thing?

    Ack!

  • Jenn Bo
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:50 pm

oooh. This is a good ep. He made the girlfriend look like his wife!

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:51 pm

    Well, that answers that.

  • Tracey
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:51 pm

    Surgery

  • Jenn Bo
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:53 pm

Well, he’s not getting away with it.

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:54 pm

Now would that guy really want the woman he plans to spend the rest of his life with to look like the snotty wife he hated and murdered?

  • Jenn Bo
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:56 pm

awh, this was a sweet episdoe. Love it!

  • Dawn
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:59 pm

He is so sweet! Wasn’t this the most romantic episode ever?

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 10:59 pm

Joe made me cry! No more hunky manly men crying on TV!

  • Jenn Bo
    Feb 14, 2007 at 11:00 pm

episdoe. Also known as a single female deer.

Fun again! I’m off to bed. Talk to you later, Sheila!

  • Dawn
    Feb 14, 2007 at 11:01 pm

I know. I cried all the way through this one. He is the perfect husband. I wonder what her Valentine message to him was, Meet me in the bedroom?

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 11:01 pm

Excellent, excellent episode. I liked so many things about it. And finally some meaty moments for Joe. Yay!

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 11:03 pm

JennBo: I didn’t even catch that the first time around. Ha! ‘niters.

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 11:04 pm

Dawn: That is my guess, with perhaps some descriptive reasons why he should join her there.

  • JCW
    Feb 14, 2007 at 11:08 pm

Caught bits and pieces in between watching Top Design - very much enjoyed the premise and Patty’s alternate personality portrayal. Noticed they took the opportunity to showcase “the girls”, and I don’t mean the daughters!

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 11:09 pm

Okay kids, I am off to bed. My faith in Medium is restored by this episode. They are the change-up masters! Goodnight all.

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 11:11 pm

JCW, hi! Yes, the girls came out to play this episode. Hee!

  • Sheila
    Feb 14, 2007 at 11:19 pm

Okay, really going to be this time. Toodles!

  • Michael W Anderson
    Feb 15, 2007 at 12:04 pm

LOVEd the snotty Sandra accent…almost English, but more like a “Madonna” accent.
The “girls” seemed to have fun!

  • Betty
    Feb 15, 2007 at 2:01 pm

What a great ep! Yes, the “girls” came out to play for a while. I thought it was so funny how “Saundra” couldn’t remember the girls (the kids) names! “Abigail should be old enough to stay with them” Ha Ha!

Scanlon - isn’t he just the eye in the middle of the hurricane? So calm and collected, doesn’t even flinch.

Yes, David Cubii - the world’s most perfect man!

  • Betty
    Feb 15, 2007 at 2:02 pm

Oops. don’t know what happened to that “t” I was sure I typed in on David Cubitt’s name…Anyway, I really do know who to spell!

  • Betty
    Feb 15, 2007 at 2:13 pm

Holly - great job on the video! Thanks for sharing.

  • Holly
    Feb 15, 2007 at 2:29 pm

Oh, yay, I just loved that episode. It was neat seeing the interaction between Joe and Scanlon (don’t usually see them together). Also, lots of Joe in this one (probably by favorite part about the whole thing!) I just don’t know what to say, I just felt so sorry for him the whole time. It was kinda weird though. Didn’t follow the usual flow for the show. I guess because the actual “Allison” character didn’t make an appearance until like the last five minutes, and we usually see her throughout the entire episode. And by the way, did anyone else notice the episode didn’t start with a dream? Is this a first? I’m pretty sure it is. It hasn’t always been Allison’s dream, but there always was a dream. For a while there I thought they were going to have her wake up at the end, but that wound have been ever weirder. Great episode, really enjoyed it.

Oh, and thank you for saying you liked the video. That really means a lot to me!

  • Betty
    Feb 15, 2007 at 2:37 pm

Joe was actually reasonable and very understanding in the episode - I guess because it was the “Valentine’s Day” ep - no snarky comments to the kids when they asked where Mommy was. He did get a little verklempt with “Saundra” at the police station.

Don’t know why Joe just didn’t open Allison’s phone and look for Scanlon’s phone number in her speed dial! Or Devalos’ number for that matter. Duh! That’s a man for you.

  • Betty
    Feb 15, 2007 at 2:46 pm

Oh, George Newbern, the doctor and Saundra’s husband, was the nice college frat boy in “Adventures in Babysitting” with Elizabeth Shue. I’m thinking he may have been in “Father of the Bride” also.

I don’t think he was the Chimera on CSI, but I could be wrong.

Just a question. Does anyone know the title of the song played predominantly on this episode of the TV show “Medium”, called “The one behind the wheel.”?

    Thanks

Corrine Bailey Rae’s “Like a Star” was the song.
