Patricia Arquette Nominated for a Golden Globe

by Katelyn on December 13th, 2007

I’m sure most of you already have heard the news, but in case you haven’t, Patricia Arquette did receive a nomination for a Golden Globe. She is up against many of the same actresses as she was with the Emmy awards earlier this year:

    Congratulations Patricia!

Isn’t this the same field she was up against last year?

She certainly deserves this nomination. It’s nice to know her hard work does not go unrecognized.

I’m a bit worried about having Sally Field in the running again. She seems to automatically win most awards she is up for. Honestly, I watched Brothers & Sisters a few times and there are episodes where you barely see her. I really think she is a supporting actress in the series.

I agree, Katelyn. The awards shows do seem to love Sally Field, don’t they? But it isn’t just Sally Field that is a strong contender. Glenn Close is also a perennial awards favorite, and even though Patricia did beat her two years ago for the Emmy, this award is for a different series, so she could win it. And her show has been getting a LOT of buzz, not to mention that it got four total nominations. If I had to say who I think will win it, I’d say it’ll probably be Glenn Close, not that that’s who I want to win. I WANT Patricia to win, but realistically speaking, if the Globes haven’t given her an award by now, after three years, what are the chances that she will win this year? Maybe the third time’s the charm. I just hope the WGA strike doesn’t affect the show, and we get to see her on the red carpet.

Betty, where did you hear about Patricia planning a ball for the Art of Elysium in January? I hadn’t heard that. I’d love to read more about that.

Dawn, there was an article in the December 17 People Magazine - the article was actually about the lady who founded this organization (The Art of Elysium) and there was a one sentence thing dropping a few names, including Patricia’s as chairing this particular fundraiser in January.

Interesting how the organization got it’s start, the lady had a friend who had leukemia and they were talking about people visiting the sick patients and her friend told her he felt sorry for this kid that never had any visitors, so she set out to change that. Unfortunately, her friend did not win his battle with leukemia, but lived long enough to see the organization get off the ground. It only takes one person to start something great!

Betty, was that last week’s issue of People or this week’s issue? I saw a bit of that article at their site about Balthazar Getty and his work with the org, and it mentioned that he and his wife were co-chairing an event next month. His wife, Rosetta, is a fashion designer who designs most of Patricia’s dresses. She and Patricia have been best friends since they were like seven years old, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they were co-chairing it with her. That’s so awesome that they spend their time helping out an organization like that.

You’re right about Jennifer Howell and the wonderful work she’s doing with this, getting celebrities to visit sick kids and raise money and awareness of the cause. It only takes one person to set it in motion. Good for her. If you haven’t read Patricia’s testimonial about Jennifer Howell and Art of Elysium, you should. It’s beautiful. It’s at their website.

I’m so glad I was wrong! I saw the tail-end of some entertainment show reporting on the Globe nominees and I missed Patricia’s name. Yea!! IA Glen Close is probably the “favorite” here, but I’m hoping our favorite will win.

Don;t count patricia out of the running just yet guys. Being nominated with that group of women is an acheivement in itself, and I love seeing her name up there with those other talented women. It just goes to show you how she is respected in the Hollywood community now, and has been since ‘Medium’ premiered, due to her work in it. i still think she is seem as doing a wonderful job of portaying a normal mother and wife, which everyone can identify with. That certainly gives her an edge, due to her emotional honesty in her acting.
Anyway, if she does not win, I am going to start calling her the Susan Lucci of the Golden Globes…

MWA, she’d have to be nominated for at least 11 or 12 times before being considered the “Susan Lucci” of the Golden Globes!

Dawn, I have no idea if that People was last week’s or not - I just know it was dated “Dec 17 issue”. My local grocery store doesn’t even have People magazine, so I have to be at Wal Mart or the big grocery store in the next town - needless to say, I don’t go to either one that often.

We all need to stay positive about Patricia Arquette being nominated for a Golden Globe. She has just as good a chance as any one of the talented women she is nominated with. Each one has done a phenomenal job with their roles on their respective shows. I guess on “Brother’s & Sisters” they look at Sally Field as the cornerstone of that show even though she has fewer lines or scenes in the show, everyone else pretty much bounces off of her character so to speak.

As far as amount of work, Edie Falco is only one of several main characters on “The Sopranos” and they only made, what, 8 eps? I don’t think it’s quite fair for her to compete against the others who the entire show revolves around and who were in far more episodes.

Although I would prefer for Patricia to win because I love “Medium” and her work on it, I would be mildly disappointed if she lost to any of the other women except for Edie - then I would be majorly disappointed.

I have watched all of the other shows this season except for “The Sopranos” and all of the shows and the women in them are stellar. I would really hate it if sentamentality won out and they gave it to Edie just because this was the last year for her show.
