Patricia Arquette Podcast Interview
For you RSS readers who do not read the comments here, Dawn turned us on to an excellent podcast interview Patricia Arquette did last August at FatFreeFilm - The Indie Film Podcast. Check it out!
Set aside some time: it takes the better part of an hour but is completely worth it. A few highlights:
- Patricia is involved in an ongoing project with Richard Linkletter than spans many years, where the audience gets to see the children literally grow up in front of the camera. Patricia plays their mom.
- Patricia says the F word. Heh.
- Patricia gets up at one point to go yell to someone “I’m doing a podcast!”
The discussion is mostly about the craft of acting. Patricia talks about how she grew up and got started in the business, and includes anecdotes about various directors she has worked with. I already liked her before the podcast. Now I adore her.
So gooooooooo. Go have a listen.

Hey, wasn’t that a great interview, Sheila? I loved it. It was very fascinating to hear her talk about her acting process and how she chooses the roles that she plays. I also loved hearing her talk about her childhood and how she got started. I thought it was hilarious when she yelled at whoever it was “I’m doin’ a podcast!”. And I thought it was funny when she used the F word. It just shows how real and down-to-earth she really is. And I liked how she talked about the cost of movies being too high, and being too expensive for people to go see. Again, another reason to love her. She is real, and seems to be very grounded, not caught up in the Hollywood movie-star hype.
Oh, that Richard Linklater movie is scheduled to be finished in 2012. The working title is “12-Year Movie” or “Boyhood”. I’ve read that the cast and crew meet once a year to film, so the movie will seem to take place in real time. They’ve been working on it for about five years now. Looks like we’ve got quite a wait for that one. Should be interesting, though.

This is why I suggest you check out Linklater’s film, Fast Food Nation. Patricia is good in a small role, and it gives you a taste of what his films are like. I can’t wait to see this one - it’s movie history in the making! Gee…guess I’m gonna HAVE to wait.

JCW: I also liked Fast Food Nation. It wasn’t at all what I thought it would be. It turned out to be a very thought-provoking commentary on American society and culture. And while Patricia’s role was very small(WAY too small, in my opinion), she was excellent as always. Like you, I can’t wait to see this new project.

This was a wonderful interview! How nice for her to take so much time to talk to these people and share her feelings and experiences - anyone who is interested in acting could learn a lot from her. Thanks for sharing!

Betty: I thought you’d like that, given your interest in acting. But as I said, the thing that made it so interesting to me was her down-to-earth manner and the matter-of-fact way she speaks about everything, from her childhood to acting.
