And the reader-added answer “Joe can’t leave! NOOOOOOOOooooooo” is the hands-down winner. (Did you know you can add an answer if you do not like any of mine? You can. I can only imagine what I am going to see on future polls. *sigh*) Here are the final results:

Although if Joe absolutely had to go, y’all wanted to kill him off so he could come back to haunt Allison. That has a certain symmetry, don’t you think?

It’s very evident that Weber does not like interacting with the kids on the show - I can see how they shoot around it, so he shares fewer and fewer scenes with them.

If he’s that unhappy…well, I’d prefer an actor who had the chemistry with Arquette AND with the kids.

You know, I never noticed that before but now that you mention it, he is sort of stiff around them, isn’t he?

You’re both right, but I’d hate to see Jake go. I am just such a big fan of his as Joe, I just might explode if he left. Though, it seems like those rumors have kinda died down a little bit, so I hope that means that they were just that, rumors. Besides, they’ve given him quite a bit lately.

David Cubitt (Scanlon) has a very natural way with kids on screen (and off apparently with 6 kids!). When he was on “Turks” he had a lot of scenes with this one boy in particular - it was a shame the kid they had playing his son on the show wasn’t nearly as good an actor as the kid he was trying to help. He has also been very good in any of the scenes with Allison’s kids. In the DVD extras he spoke very highly of the girls’ mothers and how intelligent they were.

Patricia Arquette has a very warm way with kids, too. You can see it on the show whenever she is with the girls.

Maybe Jake isn’t that good with kids in real life - some men leave most of the raising up to their wives. Maybe he feels like he is being upstaged by them? Sour grapes maybe?
