Preemption and Rerun Hell Becomes Open Mic Night
As I mentioned last week, tomorrow night’s Medium episode is a rerun of Be Kind, Rewind. And I have just discovered next week’s episode (Dec. 27) has been preempted altogether for a Friday Night Lights marathon. What, no Medium Christmas episode? No spooky holiday cheer? *grump*
So my plan is to host an Open Mic Night tomorrow, just like Liz Strauss does over at Successful Blog. Here is how it works:
- I publish the Open Mic post, inviting anyone and everyone to leave comments. It will go up at 7:00PM PST, Dec. 20.
- I assign a topic…or not. This week’s topic will be nice and broad: anything Medium-related is a-okay. The timing coincides with the broadcast of ‘Be Kind, Rewind’ so you can talk about the episode as it airs. Or you can talk about Patricia Arquette’s boobs. Anything goes.
- Open Mic ettiquette: be nice. Snark is fine and healthy debate is encouraged but no flaming of your fellow commenters or you will be banned faster than you can say ‘Dixie Chicks at The White House.’ That goes for the overly profane, as well. If you cannot be funny without swearing, you aren’t trying hard enough.
This is the first Medium Dreams Open Mic Night so I have no idea what to expect. I do not get a whole lot of commenters here so it could be a bust. Then again, I see my stats so I know there are lots of you out there, gentle Medium fans. Do stop by, even if only to say “I love Joe DuBois!” or “Dr. Charles Walker creeps me out” or “Ariel is getting boobs! Nooooo…make her stop growing up.”
I will be here tomorrow night from 7:00PM - 11:00PM PST. In the meantime, tomorrow morning I will (finally!) post my book review of the real Allison DuBois’ We Are Their Heaven: Why The Dead Never Leave Us.
I have not yet decided what to do during next week’s Friday Night Lights marathon. If tomorrow’s Open Mic Night is successful, I may have another one. If it isn’t, I may have another one anyway to give you all a second chance to verbally vomit at-will. We shall see. By all means leave suggestions here or email me if you have other ideas about what to do when we would all normally be watching a new episode of Medium.
