Sofia Vassilieva May Be a Keeper
According to Variety, Sofia may have a new movie credit on her resume soon. The movie “Keeper” which is set to begin production in March has had a major shakeup. Both young actresses originally set to star in the movie about a girl who was conceived to give her sister a chance to fight off her illness have withdrawn. Dakota Fanning is said to have decided that there was no way she’d shave her head to play the sick older sister.
Sofia Vassilieva, who is pretty close to signing on in that role, must not have the same objection. She’d be fantastic in the role and it is probably a smart career move, but I’d sure hate to see all that lovely hair go. Maybe a Medium episode where Ariel gets a new hairdo is coming up? I guess she could also wear a wig on set.

That sounds great, Katelyn. If it’s true. I have recently learned that Variety is not as reliable as I thought they were.
A couple of days ago, Variety reported that Patricia’s husband, Thomas Jane, was going to headline a new action movie to be directed by John McTiernan, called “Run”. Excited at hearing this, particularly for Thomas to be doing such a high-profile project, (especially on the heels of his last movie, The Mist), and working with such a well-known director, this all bodes well for Thomas’ career, right? So I mentioned this at his forum at RAW Studios, only to hear from Tom himself, that the deal isn’t done yet, contrary to what Variety was reporting as fact, and Tom was as surprised as anyone to hear that they were reporting it, as he had not even met with McTiernan to hash out the details. According to Tom, the deal is very likely to go through, but not definite yet.
So if this is true, this is fantastic for Sofia. Hope it works out for her. Like you, I would hate to see her lose all that gorgeous hair, but it would surprise me if she did cut it off. Like Dakota Fanning, Sofia is at an age when girls are very impressionable and self-conscious about their looks. I would guess that they might try to find some way around her shaving her head completely. Maybe wearing one of those bald caps for the movie. Which, if they did that, why couldn’t Dakota do that? Either way, I hope it works for Sofia. She deserves it.

Here’s another thought, Katelyn. If Medium resumes production right away, (as all signs point to) and production for this movie begins in March, it would be difficult for Sofia to do both Medium and this, and keep up with her schoolwork (which I believe Hollywood child labor laws require young actors to only work a certain number of hours per week, I think). I wonder if her Medium contract allows her to do other projects while the show is on the air.
When Patricia did “Fast Food Nation” a couple of years ago, the producers gave her a weekend off to go and shoot it, and she loved it. She said it was nice to have that change of pace in the middle of that busy schedule, to do a different character (and wear a wig, lol). Maybe that’s what they would do for Sofia if she got this project. Either way, good luck to her on that.

The source is correct and Sofia is very close to signing. If Medium goes back into production straight away, producers are allowing her to work on both projects, with given amount of time. It’s a fabulous opportunity and they don’t want to see one of their stars miss out. Sofia is expected to sign by early next week. Abigail Breslin is already attached to play her younger sister.

I don’t know what the big deal in Hollywood is about actors shaving their heads - it’s completely unneccessary with all the wigs and CGI, etc they have at their disposal. I get some actors like to experience the feeling, but wearing a bald cap with good make-up would provide the same effect for the people seeing them like that. Sofia doesn’t have such a large part on Medium most of the time, so it really shouldn’t be a big deal for her to do the movie at the same time that Medium is filming.

Bald caps are expensive and they constantly need replacing. They also take hours to fit on and even then they’re not perfect - sometimes they don’t hide all the hair underneath, etc. They’ve also been known to cause accidents - actors have had to go to ER before after glue from the bald caps have gotten in their ears, eyes, etc. Usually bald caps are used for actors who have small roles. Since Sofia’s role in this movie is not small, it makes a lot more sense for her to just shave her head rather than go through all the hassle of a bald cap (money, constant replacements, accidents, time it would take to put it on every day, etc). That also explains why other actors shave their heads for larger parts - it’s a lot less hassle and time consuming than wearing a bald cap.

Sofie going bald? Hmm, I guess this is something that Eloise would freak out on… Well, it might take years for her to grow her hair back, but it’s OK…
