Medium Dreams

Sweet Child o’ Mine Rerun - Originally Aired 2-2006

by Katelyn on December 9th, 2007

Today’s Medium rerun is a bit of a tearjerker for animal lovers. It is the one where Bridget finds a dog and Joe has to break the news that it is going to die. On the mystery front, Allison also gets attached. She becomes a bit emotional about a teen who may have murdered his boss. With her mommy instincts pushing her to protect him, can she make sense of the case?

Tonight, why don’t we snack on some of grandma’s French cookies? They really taste better after they sit for a week, but they won’t be around by next Sunday, so we’ll just have to eat them fresh out of the oven tonight.

Yum! Grandma’s cookies sound just delish! Another creative episode! All the more reason to give these writers what they want! I just read where the talks were broken off by the producers or whoever is negotiating with the WGA, while the WGA was preparing a counter offer! We need to keep praying to give these people with the power the WISDOM to work together for a resolution that is fair AND EQUITABLE for all involved. I really don’t want to see dozens of new reality shows.

Hmm, French cookies sound good. How about some delicious hot chocolate to go with them? Maybe French vanilla flavored?

This is another excellent episode. And a wonderful example of how creative the Medium writers can be. Like Betty said, all the more reason to give them their fair share. I hope that someone in Hollywood has the good sense to bring these people back to the people and make them stay there until they work this thing out. I really don’t want to see endless hours of reality tv instead of my Medium. I’m just afraid that if this does drag on, that it could cause the actors and directors to go on strike, which would pretty much decimate the entertainment industry. And I would really be bummed if Medium got cancelled. I know it’s going to happen eventually, but I’m not ready for it yet. I love my Medium.

That Brian dream is so sad.

Finding the coffee store manager dead when you go out for a desperate morning coffee run is sooo not the way to start a day after you’ve had a bad night.

    Can you keep a secret?
I don’t know. Show me what’s in your closet and I’ll tell you. Daaad!

I love the spit to clean the face thing. Why do we think our spit will make a child’s face cleaner?

And then she realizes that they aren’t the standard Brian dreams, because he is sitting at the funeral.

How does a mother handle having a son who is a murderer? I think most mothers would want to do anything to protect their children, but covering the murder up doesn’t help him. He’ll need counseling and he won’t be able to cope with the hidden guilt.
Doesn’t Patricia do an amazing job as the boy’s desperate mother, though?

I love the look Devalos gives her. Ah Allison, you do remember you’re on our side, right?

It would be pretty hard to give a baby back to a mother who didn’t want him and had that lifestyle. I sympathize with her, but you can’t just take someone else’s baby. And then to let your son take the rap?

Her reasoning is so nuts. I think I’d take foster care over jail for my son. Jail is too dangerous.

That is such a cute kid. Protecting her father from the heartbreak of losing a dog he doesn’t want because she thinks he loves it.

Well, that’s it for another episode rerun. Just a few more weeks until we’re watching fresh ones.

That last moment is the best; Dad gives Bridge a smooch on the noggin. Love it. Dawn, girl there’s your guy in the blue boxers again! Yup, he ain’t bad to drool over, either. Same blue boxers; Joe needs a new color palette. When do we see David in boxers?!

  • Katelyn

We may never see David in boxers, unless they let us write an episode! Hey, maybe they should turn Medium over to the fans for that special fan episode they were talking about for this season while the writers and studios are talking. Then, we’ll have 10 episodes.
Can you imagine how insane it would be with everyone trying to get some special bit they’ve been longing for in? A break up with his stiff girlfriend for Scanlon, a new pair of underwear for Joe and shaking things up for Allison, all in an hour.

We could do it! And 10 episodes? Woman, we’d have another 10 SEASONS!!

Hey, I’m in! I’ll help write it! Lol! That sounds like a great idea! And just think with all the Medium fans, they could probably get tons of material to keep the show going for a long time. :)

I loved this ep. Patricia was so amazing as the boy’s desperate mother, and in the scenes when she’s grieving over her own child that she lost. That first dream was so sad, and then every time she looked at him, you could tell she just wanted to take him in her arms and take him home and protect him from the big, bad world.
And Joe in his boxers, what more can I say? Yuummmmyy! I don’t care if they’re blue or white or plaid, he still knows how to rock his boxers. :)

I think the first order of business would be to dump Deputy Doll if the viewers/fans were to write an episode! No offense to the actress personaly, who I’m sure is a very nice woman with lots of talents in OTHER areas besides acting.

Rachel, we did get to see Scanlon shirtless this season in the “Second Opinion” episode. Too bad Deputy Doll was in that scene (it’s OK Rachel, you can scream with me - IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ME!) We also got to see him shirtless in “Knowing Her” from the 2nd season and also “SOS” from the 2nd season. Oh yes, we also got a yummy glimpse of him shirtless in “Four Dreams” the season opener for the 3rd season, but, alas, never walking around in his boxers like Joe.

I still say Scanlon was so flirting with Allison in this episode when she walks up with the Chinese restaurant ad and he asks,”Hey good looking, what’s cooking?” Too funny!

This was such a tragic episode for everyone involved. I suppose the doctor thought she was doing the right thing when she took the baby from the drug addicted Mom and told her the baby died.

What I think is cruel and unusal punishment is when a couple or single parent adopts a child through all the legal channels and then the Mom comes back a couple of years later and wants the child back and the court lets her take the kid - too, too heartbreaking.

FYI, the actor who played Brian plays the son on The Riches on FX.

Bridgette was just too cute in the ep!

Betty; yes, we have seen lots of David shirtless, oooh, but we need us some boxer action! So to speak… In “Turks” there was the ep of him in just a towel. Need I say more? But I don’t agree that he was flirting with Allison with that remark; I think Scanlon is a wiseacre and was just being playful. Although if it was flirting, it was the playful banter you have between friends that doesn’t mean anything but that.
And the death to Deputy Doll if we write the episodes! Not literally, just the death of a sparkless relationship. I know she’s married to Glenn Caron, but pa-lease! It’s painful to watch her no matter what she’s doing. That could be an awesome character and an awesome relationship arc for her and Scanlon, if only they’d hired a real and talented actress to pull it off. Imagine the sparks that’d fly then! And then we’d REALLY get to see those acting chops of Mr. Cubitt. Because I agree with you again Betty, he’s got it going on talent-wise. Beautiful green eyes-wise, rugged handsomeness-wise, soft sorta gravelly voice-wise, enticing wanna be a lisp-wise… Oops; fantasty tangent! Sorry. But nevertheless, a promising storyline that has some great potential lost because of a one dimensional “actress”. I’ve got an idea for a woman for Scanlon, someone he meets who’s outside the periphary of law enforcement that he then has to come to the rescue of and they grow from there. Even have the idea of how they finally express their true feelings for each other. It’s also another fantasy tangent! But hey, still better than that wooden totempole of a girlfriend he has now.

Rachel, I agree completely about Deputy Doll. She is a terrible actress. I was watching the scene of her speaking at the memorial service in this episode and it was painful. Like fingernails on a chalkboard painful. I almost turned my television off. Thank goodness there are so many other talented actors and actresses on there to save that show, because if it were just her, the show would have never gotten picked up in the first place. The best contributions that she has made to the show are encouraging GGC to do the show and recommending Patricia Arquette for the lead role. She’s obviously not dumb, she just can’t act. GGC has said that after she suggested Patricia for the role, he never considered anyone else, and never offered it to anyone else. So we can at least thank her for that.
Back to this episode. I don’t think that Scanlon was flirting with Allison either. Theirs is more of a sibling/best friends type of relationship. Not romantic at all. Allison is so in love with Joe (and why not?) that she would never dream of flirtingwith someone else, not even Scanlon. And Scanlon knows that. But I think it’s so sweet the way he worries about her and fusses over her sometimes, like in the “We Had a Dream” episode. (I love that one.)

So the totempole suggested Patricia? Good for her! She’s earned her place as wife, sorta as co-star, NOW it’s time for her to go! Nope, not dumb; just a dang totempole.
And a good suggestion it was too, because this is a good ep; I love Patricia’s pained expressions and interaction in this one. She really comes across so beautifully as an empathetic and caring person. She really deserves all her kudos as her turn as Allison DuBois; she’s just great.
I’m with ya, Dawn; love how Scanlon obviously cares about Allison. Shows what a big heart he has; not just some dumb cop who’s seen it all and doesn’t care anymore. Makes the character lovable, believeable and makes you want to know more about him. He becomes more than a secondary fill-in character. He also obviously respects the relationship of Allison and Joe, and I also love that. Something he probably wants of his own, and can then consider those two as friends, even if it isn’t a deep friendship.
There’s so much to work with on this show! Any wonder why we all love it?!

Amen to that, Rachel. I love the relationship between Allison and Scanlon, but also between Allison and Joe. That’s the heart of the show. Scanlon knows that they love each other and he respects that, but maybe he’s a little envious because he’d like to have that himself. And he does bring so much to the character that makes him more than just a fill-in character. He’s actually a part of the show, and he has feelings and David Cubitt does such a wonderful job of portraying him that you can’t help but love him.

And Patricia is always awesome, but in this ep especially she was really great. Her sorrow and confusion are vivid and just makes you feel that much more for Allison’s loss. She really is one of the most underrated actresses working today, along with most of the rest of the Medium cast. I would love to see them get some recognition too, particularly the wonderful Jake Weber. It is absolutely criminal that he did not get an Emmy nomination this year after that amazing job he did in “The One behind the Wheel”. Maybe he’ll have better luck at the Golden Globes. I hope Patricia gets another nomination, and (God willing) a win. She deserves it and she’s long overdue, but it’s a packed field this year, so I’m not holding my breath for another nomination.

Oh so right you are, Dawn! Jake does a spectacular job as the balance to Patricia, and the chemistry between them is wonderful to watch. Is the ep you’re talking about the one where she lives as Sandra? I agree; he deserves a nom for that; so appealing and heartfelt. Almost made me cry when he responds to her missing Valentine’s Day. Weep. They all deserve recognition; so much talent and freshness to all of their performances, so much so that after three seasons there’s still so much to be covered with each character. I too am looking forward to January 7th! Gonna have to make some room in my DVR for the new season.

I still think Scanlon was flirting with Allison - they have such an outstanding chemistry together, it’s incredible! I do think he sees the kind of relationship that Allison has with Joe and I think that is part of the reason is decided to commit to DD - it’s just a shame it’s not an actress that shares the incredible chemistry with him (and is someone who can actually ACT).

Rachel, do you have his movie “The Perfect Son”? If not, you should run, not walk to your computer and go to Amazon.com and order it right away!

David has definitely taken the character of Lee Scanlon and made it his own. I could never imagine anyone else in that part!

Rachel, speaking of fantasies, have you read out Medium Group Episode? It is not complete, I need to add some more to it, but I’ve been busy lately and not had the time to continue withit. Several of us have worked on it. I think you will really like the parts I have written for Scanlon and a mystery woman!

Betty; yup! Have “The Perfect Son” on my DVR, sans the sex scene, darn it (!!). He’s fab. And I have read some of the Group Episode, and now know what you look like Ms. Boop! You crack me up. I was thinking of putting my idea there, but you beat me to it, and it would really make it confusing to have two different story lines going with two different women. Maybe the next one. I have so much free time right now (last day on the job was Friday) I’ll go and read it and keep myself entertained. If I have any ideas I’ll add to it. Keep writing, girls!
