Sylvia Browne Becomes a Simile
Sylvia Browne’s messed up predictions have become so mainstream that sports writers are creating similes:
Matt Millen May Not Have Screwed This Up
Deadspin, NY -Apr 28, 2007
He was tough to evaluate at times, because his quarterback at Georgia Tech’s arm was about as accurate as a Sylvia Browne horoscope, but Johnson has Pro …
Anyone want to try to create another Sylvia Browne simile?

Poor, poor Sylvia - guess she’ll just have to take comfort in the $750 - you read that right, not $75 but $750 she charges for a reading. Wonder how much she makes from her Wednesday appearances on Montel Williams?

It was tough decision: yes, no, yes, no? It was Sylvia Browne on the West Virginia miner tragedy all over again.

Betty,
I wonder if we can develop psychic abilities? That’s a nice chunk of change.
Sheila,
It really does get the point across.

You believe in having psychic abilities?

Luke,
Not the kind that people earn $750 a reading for…but I do sometimes know who’s calling me without looking at caller id. Of course, that may be routine related and have nothing to do with psychic abilities. People tend to call family members at certain times and we subconsciously register that kind of thing.

I guess so, but if so many believe that there is a superior god watching over us, how come most people usually say it’s “Not possible…” that people can develop… Powers… No, not powers, these gifts? (I don’t like using the term powers, seeing as it may be mistaken for that comic book mumbo jumbo).
I know my Dad isn’t really a hardcore Christian, but he has a profession in religious matters. He told me that there is no such thing as anything called ‘Magic’. How come it’s so easy for him to understand that God saved him, but when I ask him if magic is real, it’s suddenly out of the question?

Katelyn, apparently, you don’t have to be GOOD at it - from what I hear about Sylvia, she gets lots of stuff wrong!
Luke, I think most “magic” is based on illusion - fooling the eye - but with a lot of things, there are sometimes when you just can’t find any other rational explanation.
I do believe in people having certain “gifts” or heightened senses. I know there are times in my life when I have known things before they happened - mostly when someone was going to die - and not someone that was terminally ill. Other times, you just get a “feeling” or a “vibe” about something and know something.
Remember a few years ago, there was this show that started on NBC then moved to the PAX channel that starred Adrian Pasdar (now on Heroes and married to a Dixie Chick) that dealt with scientific investigations of stuff that seemed to be “paranormal”. From what I remember, they usually found a rational reason for most stuff in their investigation, but every once in a while, it seemed there was something they just couldn’t explain. I cannot for the life of me remember what it was called, but seems like one of the networks is doing a fall show that sounds very similiar to this concept.
Anyone else remember the show I’m talking about?

I can’t recall what show you’re talking about. However, I also believe there are unexplained things in the world. Well, I also used to watch a show, I don’t know who was in it, but it was called “Is it real?” … they talked about unexplained mysteries, such as Sasquach, or Aliens.

Betty,
Yes, I remember that show. I don’t remember the name, either, but they covered Edwards and a few of the other popular psychics, right?

Hi Betty!
The show you are thinking of is called “Mysterious Ways” and it aired from 2000 - 2002.
Pasdar is one of those actors who SHOULD have became a major star, but chose fringe projects instead. (See: Just Like a Woman)
He’s excellent in an early starring role in the vampire flick “Near Dark” if you have any interest in seeing more of his work.
Luckily, he FINALLY seems to have struck career gold with “Heros”.
Sylvia Browne (Bet she added that “e” to make it “Classy”) is STILL a major douche bag.
And just WHEN will I be seeing you in the comments over at Get Sheila?

BTW,
Here’s a URL for Wikipedia’s page for dear old, OLD Sylvia. Turns out I was right - the “e” at the end of Browne is an affectation. Big surprise.
What a piece of trash…. Check it out! Big Fun!!

OK…. this is long, but for you Sylviaphiles out there,
it’s worth taking a look at. And may I add that I’ll give you a 30 minute phone reading for 20 bucks…
I won’t guarantee accuracy - but then, neither can Sylvia or Christopher - douche bags.
About Your Reading
While Sylvia or Chris is doing a reading for you, they psychically reach into your soul, pull out your Chart, and then recite back to you those things you have already planned for yourself. There is nothing mysterious about this; it is simply their gift from God, one that they have perfected to a very high degree.
Since your Chart is already planned, why then should you even have a reading? Some of the major reasons include:
Ensure that you are “on track”
See what actions other people might take
Select the best path among several choices
Scan for health warnings (see your physician too)
Explore your Theme, Option Line, and Spirit Guide
Minimize the severity of unpleasant coming events
Sylvia and Chris can contact deceased friends and loved ones
Sylvia and Chris can also cover many other aspects of your life (if you ask), including: Romance, Health, Finances, Career, Family, Relationships, and Spiritual Evolvement. They can also give insights into any of these areas for your family and loved ones. To ensure that you get the full benefit from your reading, it is very important to write out your questions ahead of time.
Sylvia and Chris generally try to pin down a time for everything they see, but it can be somewhat elusive. They are most accurate when the events in your chart are under your control. But when other people are involved, those people’s actions can contribute to changing the timing. Nonetheless, the events they foresee should come to pass as you have charted those things to happen, but the timing can slip for many reasons.
Of course, at no time does Sylvia or Chris want to control your life. You are totally in charge of your life, and should rely upon common sense, sound judgement, and the facts available to you as you make plans for your journey through this world. Look upon a psychic reading as getting directions for the journey ahead. You will still need to make that trip by yourself, and will confront all the difficulties that life presents, but at least you will have some sense that your direction is correct and there is a plan for all the craziness that you encounter. Also realize that there are many different ways to get from one place to another in your life. Sylvia and Chris will outline one path, among many, for you to consider.
Neither Sylvia nor Chris use any devices (such as tarot cards) while doing your reading. Nor do they need a personal object from you. In fact, they do not need your physical presence at all. They are just as good over the phone as they are in person. They do most of their readings by phone, counseling people all over the world.
Initially they will tell you what they see about you and about the people around you. Then you may ask questions on any topic at all (have your written questions ready). Sylvia and Chris often answer your questions before you even ask them. They do not do a guessing game, asking you questions and extracting information. They simply look into your chart and begin talking.
Both Sylvia and Chris record every reading and give you the tape; they are not afraid to have their work audited. They always find a way to help you with life’s troubles. Other “psychics” tell people that their problems are caused by the person’s own negative blocks, curses, evil entities, demons, or karmic retribution. Do not believe these things. They do not exist. Only a fraud will tell you such things.
Finally, Sylvia and Chris have very strict ethics about their work. At no time do they discuss your reading with anyone. You have complete privacy, which is never violated. Also, they do not publish or in any way distribute a list of their clients.
Fees

JCW, thanks for the name of that show! I used to really like to watch it - loved Adrian Pasdar in it. It’s that old timer’s disease - can’t pull those names out any more!
Last time I tried to leave a comment at Get Sheila, it gave me an error message. That darn Hal sure gets around!
Other shows that have addressed phenomenom are CSI and Crossing Jordan. One time on CSI, the underlings thought a body was an alien or something like that, but of course, Gil Grissom believes that everything has a scientific explanation and of course it turned out that way.
One time on CJ Nigel and Lilly thought this body was really Elvis - the guy’s wife believed he was really Elvis, but after their investigation, they discovered he was in fact, NOT Elvis at all, but a guy who took his obsession a bit too far. I think they let his widow have her belief that he was Elvis, but they knew otherwise.
Katelyn, I don’t recall that Mysterious Ways (thanks JCW) dealt with real people who pretend/have a psychic gift of some sort, but may have had someone be strikingly similar to some real life person. It was a fascinating show.

JCW, I feel kind of bad for all of those people posting on “Allison Dubois on Oprah” asking for help from her in finding a missing girl in Portugal.
I see there are many people who discredit Allison and her claims.

Betty,
Maybe I’m thinking of another show, then. There was a whole series where they looked into magicians, psychics, etc. and how they did what they did.
I pulled you out of the spam filter.

Katelyn, thanks for pulling me out of the spam filter!
Perhaps I forgot to say “Mysterious Ways” was a fictional show. I remember one episode about a town where a bunch of school children were on a school bus and it stalled on the railroad tracks, and of course in TV Land, that always means a train will be there in seconds - many of the town’s children were killed.
Of course, this was a small town, so a good percentage of the town’s children were killed and the town was divided by the tragedy - blaming the bus driver, the mechanic, etc. There were those who thought they could hear the children’s cries at that railroad crossing - and naturally they thought it was the ghosts of the children.
Adrian Pasdar and company come to investigate and discovered that it wasn’t the mechanic’s fault after all - they checked out the wreckage of the bus and the part in question. They cleared his name. They tried to find a logical explanation for the sounds the people thought were the ghosts of the children - they thought it was the wind in the trees or something, but I think it ended up they couldn’t exactly make it work the way they thought to duplicate the wind speed and conditions to achieve the sound. Something like that, but it was a fascinating show.

Here is some of my own forecasting. Sylvia will make a big error exposing her fraud, and in the end result will be the doom of the Montel Williams show. Then Sylvia, and Rosie O’Donell will start their own show called “Intuitive Thought From a Big Mouth”. Here is a poll if you believe in Sylvia or not: http://www.apopularitycontest.com/display_poll.php?ID=157
