Well, I did TRY to participate….
I clicked on the “place” link, but it leads me to… Nowhere.

Is there something I need to know to participate? Am I lacking the right Internet speed or equipment?

    So sad….

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 7:20 pm

I’m here! JCW: It is just here. The “place” link is just telling people it’s at the Medium Dreams website, in case they are reading it in their feed reader. Sorry for the confusion.

So, topic? We can go with Ghost Whisperer vs. Medium or anything that floats our boat.

You are the one that gave me the “Ghost Whisperer: Medium-lite?” title a while back. I have not been watching GW lately. You? I was so annoyed when they killed off Aisha Tyler. The two shows just feel like polar opposites to me. Medium is so realistic in terms of home life and the job. But on GW, even the town square screams “MOVIE SET”!

  • JCW
    Dec 27, 2006 at 7:26 pm

Well as you know, I was big big advocate of the “Medium Lite” joke early on… No truer words have ever been said than your comment about J.L.H.’s battle between face time and boobs on camera.

However - for fans of Medium, I can’t help but think that what really matters is - is the source material real? The Sylvia Brownes, the John Edwards…I’ve found that some people feel passionatley on this subject.

I DO believe in psychic phenomena - and I DO appreciate entertainment in this vein, but I have real problems with the “cold readers” out there taking people’s money and giving them bullshit in return.

  • JCW
    Dec 27, 2006 at 7:33 pm

Medium fans? anything to say on the subject?

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 7:36 pm

I agree 100%. My guts twist whenever I think about people who pay their hard earned money to psychics. Some argue, “What’s the harm? Psychics make the people they read for feel better.” Thoughts?

Are we the only ones here? HELLOOOOOOOO. Anyone else about?

    Hello?

  • Jenn Bo
    Dec 27, 2006 at 7:43 pm

Okay… I’m on to participate. I need to read all the prior comments, but it seems like you’re comparing GW to Medium… I like both. I totally agree with JCW on the “tv set” town square.

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 7:43 pm

Yay JennBo! Akismet thinks JennBo is spam so I will check spam every few minutes and de-quaratine her comments. Poor JennBo. I picture her walking around with a big scarlet S on her shirt for SPAM. Hee!

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 7:45 pm

Hey JennBo, maybe if I de-Spam you a bunch of times tonight, Akismet will “learn” that you arent’ Spam. Hooray for open mic night! (If it works.)

  • Jenn Bo

Additional comments on GW - I really miss Aisha’s character. With Aisha gone, JLH’s husband has to play a more active role. I like his character. I have always liked Camryn Manheim(sic), but her character feels rather hollow.

  • JCW
    Dec 27, 2006 at 7:46 pm

Like I said - I DO know that some psychic phenomena is real - but yes, the vast majority buy into people who provide “entertainment” rather than actual “insight”.

HI! Jenn Bo! Nice to see you here!

  • Jenn Bo
    Dec 27, 2006 at 7:47 pm

In comparison, the characters on Medium feel like they have normal lives with issues that appear likely to happen. Each character has a realistic set of circumstances (other than seeing ghosts & having preminitions).

  • Jenn Bo
    Dec 27, 2006 at 7:50 pm

On whether or not psychic phenomena is real, I’d like to believe it is real - but I’m not certain.

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 7:51 pm

The writers on Medium are very serious about their underwear. Glen Caron said he would do the entire show with Joe and Allison at home in their underwear if he could but would we really want that much “reality?” Heh.

  • Jenn Bo
    Dec 27, 2006 at 7:52 pm

Too bad the world can’t come up with a psychic certification program. Sure would make the industry more credible. =)

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 7:52 pm

I, too, want to believe in psi powers. (Hello! Grew up reading James H. Schmitz!) I guess I am just one of those gotta-see-it-for-my-own-eyes-to-believe-it kind of people.

  • Jenn Bo
    Dec 27, 2006 at 7:53 pm

Now that you mention it, the show does have a lot of underwear, PJs, and robes.

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 7:53 pm

Ha ha! Psychic Specialist. Senior Psychic Specialist. Managing Psychic. Senior Psychic Manager. Psychic Partner.

Exactly what I was thinking Sheila (a firm structure). It would just need a think tank in DC.

  • JCW
    Dec 27, 2006 at 7:55 pm

Sheila - When you come to visit - and you will - we’ll do a cemetary tour. Something always happens to me at the time or immediately following - perhaps you’ll feel or see something to help make up your mind?

  • JCW
    Dec 27, 2006 at 7:57 pm

J.B. is ENTIRELY too obsessed with people in varioau states of undress…

    Shame on you!

(Any pictures you care to forward?)

  • JCW
    Dec 27, 2006 at 7:58 pm

OK - So I’m off to fold laundry and fix a late dinner for the hubby - best to the Medium set - i’ll try to check in later!

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 7:59 pm

JCW: You are creeping me out. I have never been to a cemetery at night. Can we go during the day? Otherwise I will pack the Valium.

  • Jenn Bo
    Dec 27, 2006 at 8:00 pm

    fake lol

(Did anyone see the article that made fun of the “actual lol” terms being used in chat rooms these days. If not, that comment was only funny to me.)

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 8:00 pm

Lovely to e-see you for an hour LIVE. Woo-hoo! Catch you later, ‘gator.

  • JCW
    Dec 27, 2006 at 8:02 pm

By all means, pack the valium - and don’t forget the Vicoden for me either!

Silly girl - I always go in the day! This isn’t a B horror movie we’re talking about!

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 8:03 pm

JennBo: I haven’t heard of that? What’s the story?

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 8:04 pm

Heh. JCW’s last comment got caught in the SPAM filter, too. Must be the valium and vicoden. I do get a lot of SPAM for that sort of thing. Intermingled with the porn, of course.

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 8:06 pm

BTW, I realize a chat room would be a better forum for this sort of thing but I ain’t got one. Feel free to slow down, post unrelated comments to start a new discussion, etc. I will be here until 11:00 everyone.

  • Jenn Bo
    Dec 27, 2006 at 8:06 pm

I can’t find it right off the google-search, but I’ll keep looking. I think it was on NPR.

  • Jenn Bo

    It was defective yeti.

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 8:10 pm

Ha! That’s funny. If I want to convey that something actually made me laugh out loud, I use LMAO or ROTFLMAO. Why must everyone be so literal?

    Love that defectiveyeti site.

People are divided in the Medium forums when it comes to the middle DuBois daughter, Bridgette, who is played by Maria Lark. Some people think she is incredibly adorable and some just hate her. Thoughts?

I adore her…because I don’t have to live with her. Intelligent children CAN be trying at times.

  • Jenn Bo
    Dec 27, 2006 at 8:17 pm

The only thing I don’t like about Bridgette is her sense of style. So quirky! Sometimes I just want to put some wranglers with those cowboy boots. It would look so much better!

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 8:32 pm

Must be that whole self-expression thing. The bicycle helmet episode was so darn perfect. I do not recall being that attached to things like that when I was little, though. A blankey, yes.

  • arieanna
    Dec 27, 2006 at 8:35 pm

I like on Medium how things seem more “normal”, you know? People actually eat breakfast, and taking care of the kids is always a challenge. Those elements make you connect a lot more to the characters.

I do like Bridgette. My favorite of the kid characters, I think.

Oh, and I’ve been to a cemetary at night. Never want to do it again! So creepy and sad! There was this old cemetary for miners of the railroad that was very run down. It didn’t have many stone markers left, just dips in the ground where things have, um, decayed. Creepy.

  • arieanna
    Dec 27, 2006 at 8:37 pm

Ooh, I had these little koala bears that my Oma used to give me. Harder, not plush, but very fuzzy. I had lots of them because I took them everywhere and just destroyed them. All were named “Softie” - Softie 1, Softie 2, etc

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 8:43 pm

My blankey disintegrated into tatters over the years. Unbeknownst to me, my sister hid a piece of it between my mattress and box spring. I was down to a tiny wad of pilly fibers when I learned you are supposed to flip your mattress every 6 months. Ta-da! Blankey brought back to life with the 12″x12″ piece my sister ruthlessly hid from me. (She was evil, but we are friends now.)

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 8:50 pm

There is something I notice when I watch Medium on DVD or when I watch it as a rerun on TV: Allison is bitchy. I mean REALLY bitchy sometimes.

The weird thing is, I don’t notice it AT ALL when I watch the show the first time around. Is it just me?

  • JCW
    Dec 27, 2006 at 8:59 pm

Well, I folded laundry, took a shower and started dinner… and this is all that has happened since I’ve been gone??

aireanna - cemetaries can be fascinating places to visit - particularly in daylight. However, for “sensitive” people, that “creepy” feeling is there day or night. Excellent one in the Oakland Hills should you ever get out this way - right next to a mausaleum designed by Julia Morgan (Hearst Castle).

I still say, WHAT ABOUT ALL THOSE PHONEY MEDIUMS OUT THERE! They give the real deal a bad name!

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 9:10 pm

You just can’t seem to rile those true believers up, JCW.

What exactly do you mean by “that creepy feeling”? Can you describe it?

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 9:32 pm

Hey, a new behind-the-scenes video is up at NBC for next Wednesday’s episode “Mother’s Little Helper”. Sofia does most of the talking and they have a lot of footage on the set where you see what’s going on just outside of camera range. IF you watch it, come back and tell me what beverage Maria Lark says she likes. :)

    It’s almost the Witching hour!

I, for one, certainly enjoyed open mic night! I’m sure literally tens of Medium fans did as well but were too shy to join in.

    Chicken Shits.

Creepy feeling: Real or imagined sense that something outside your life experience is reaching you somehow. Usually imagined, but dangerously thrilling when it’s the real thing. Addictive, even - but not to be toyed with unless you’re willing to experience something that might put you outside your comfort zone.

    There - a definition. I hope you’re happy!

  • JCW
    Dec 27, 2006 at 10:04 pm

OH… You still have another hour left…sorry!

Well hang in there! Medium fans are BOUND to show up soon!

  • JCW
    Dec 27, 2006 at 10:09 pm

    Hello…hello…hello……

    Is there anybody out there…out there..out there…

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 10:11 pm

What? Is that a voice in the darkness? Is somebody there?

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 10:16 pm

I’m sorry. I thought I was suspended in one of those chamber that blocks out all sensation. (What are those called again?) I thought the voices were a hallucination.

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 10:18 pm

Watching the latest behind-the-scenes video I mentioned above, I noticed for the first time that Sofia Vassiliava has Angelina Jolie lips. Lucky!

  • JCW
    Dec 27, 2006 at 10:28 pm

Angelina Jolie lips? Now THAT’S creepy!

  • JCW
    Dec 27, 2006 at 10:30 pm

Do you suppose poor jennifer Anniston wears those big, red wax lips around the house and poses in mirrors admiring herself?

    OH..Sorry…off topic!

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 10:36 pm

I am totally picturing Jennifer Aniston doing that now! Did she and Vince Vaughn break up? I am way behind on my Hollywood gossip.

I wonder if Patricia Arquette ever dated Vince Vaughn. There must be six degrees of separation between someone on Medium and Jennifer Aniston. Hm…

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 10:45 pm

Maybe we need to go back to Jennifer Love Hewitt’s boobs.

  • JCW
    Dec 27, 2006 at 10:46 pm

Patricia Arquette was married to Nick Cage, who worked with Tea Leone who worked with Jim Carrey who worked with Jennifer Aniston.

    there…are you happy?

  • JCW
    Dec 27, 2006 at 10:48 pm

There’s no competition in the world of psychic titties… Arquettes are the real deal, whereas one of Hewitt’s could poke your eye out if you fell on it the right way.

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 10:54 pm

Lazy six degrees list! Where are my project titles? My IMDb links? :)~ (Hee!)

Speaking of boobs, I mean Jennifer Love Hewitt, what is with the mega-thick jet black eyeliner they put on her for Ghost Whisperer? You would think, with all of the close-ups they do, they would tone it down a bit.

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 11:00 pm

Well kids, that’s about it for tonight. Thank you for lurking. And a big thank you to JCW. And JennBo and Arieanna, too. Feel free to leave comments after 11:00 on this or any other post. It is a blog, after all. Immediacy is not a requirement.

    Nitey night!

  • JCW
    Dec 27, 2006 at 11:02 pm

Six Degrees: 1) The marriage covers itself.
2)Cage and Leone worked together in a Christmas movie that was a mild rip-off of It’s a Wonderful Life 3)Leone worked with Carrey in the lame-ass remake of Fun with Dick & Jane 4)Carrey worked with Aniston in Bruce Almighty.

    So take that!

As to Hewitt’s eyeliner…she’s an average looking girl in an industry that values beauty - I suspect extreme make-up trends, not unlike extreme boobs, are an attempt to stay relevant.

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 11:08 pm

    2) I remember that one! They were having sex on the stairs and she said, “Say it. You know what I like to hear.” So he said something hot and sexy but what she really liked was something romantic. No sex for him that night.

    3) Didn’t they rob a bank? The previews did not entice me to actually see the entire movie.

    * * *

I am so glad I am not a part of Hollywood. I would be crushed like a bug.

  • Sheila
    Dec 27, 2006 at 11:09 pm

Okay, I am really signing off now. Goodnight JCW.

  • Holly
    Jan 2, 2007 at 12:39 pm

Wow, I wish I would have known about this…when are you going to have another? I’d love to talk about Medium with people (none of my friends are into it :( .)

  • Sheila
    Jan 2, 2007 at 2:09 pm

Holly: Glad to hear you are interested! I am thinking of doing it on Wednesdays when they show a repeat of Medium, as opposed to a new episode. Any time I have one, I will post about it the day before to let people know it is coming up as well as the day of. If you subscribe to the RSS feed, you won’t have to come back and keep checking. Looking forward to your participation.
