Thomas Jane Gets a Show

by Katelyn on August 1st, 2008

Premiere Of Sony Pictures' "Hancock" - Arrivals

Boy, are people having fun with this one. Thomas Jane will be starring in a new series on HBO with the unfortunate title of Hung. Yes, as in well endowed. He’s a basketball coach in this comedy, which is supposed to be on the dark side. With Thomas Jane, I’d expect dark. After all, he is not into butterflies and daisies.

Anything with a good cast that isn’t more reality trash is exciting, but I’ll have to see how much of the humor is about his skills as a coach and how much is about his…umm…other skills before I decide whether I’m going to be watching! Whether it is my style of humor or not, I know it will be good. After all, HBO is the station that gave us the incredibly popular Sopranos and several other great series. (Do you think we can hope for a guest appearance by Patricia Arquette? It just seems like the type of show she’d have fun with, too.)

Sundance Film Festival '07 - "King of California" Premiere

Hung will have at least one other big name in the credits - Alexander Payne has agreed to direct the show.

POSTED IN: Patricia Arquette

LOL!!! I am still rolling over that title!! Leave it to HBO to come up with a show like that, and to give it a title like that !!! Lmao!!

I was kinda surprised when I heard that he’s signed onto a television series, but this actually sounds kinda interesting, (at least leaving out the, ahem, subject matter). It was created by the same people who created and wrote The Riches on FX, so it oughta be good.

It would be awesome to see Patricia do a guest appearance on it, especially since he appeared on her show.

But I’m kinda wondering what this will mean for Medium and its fans. Will this mean Patricia will want to stay at home and be a mom, rather than (hopefully) staying on Medium for a couple more seasons (at least!!).

Hmmm. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that Medium stays around and that Patricia stays with it. And lots of luck to Thomas on this endeavor. Sounds like he’s a pretty industrious guy, with all the projects he has in the works. Good for him.

    Dawn,
I certainly hope that his show doesn’t indirectly lead to the demise of Medium, but I bet they can juggle things. The good thing about Medium being mid-season is that it doesn’t necessarily need to be in production at the same time as other shows. If it means keeping the show’s star, you’d think NBC would be flexible on when they shoot the episodes for Medium.

I agree, Katelyn. And I hope that they are able to work out things so that both of them can do
their shows. That would be great for both of them to be on television at the same time.

Let’s hope that NBC decides to keep Medium around for another couple of seasons at least.
And that Thomas’ show is successful as well.

So far, that is my favorite picture of Thomas Jane! Something about all that facial hair and the smurky look on his face. Hmmmm…!

Dawn, it may just mean they BOTH get to be home and shoot in LA rather than all over the world shooting movies - at least for a good part of the world.

I don’t think HBO makes as many episodes of its series as Network TV, so his shooting schedule shouldn’t be that long.

Betty, I hope you’re right about the schedules not conflicting. It would be cool to see both on television at the same time. Of course, now that means that I’ll have to get HBO, lol!

Katelyn, when has NBC ever done anything to try to please the cast, crew or fans of Medium? Lol! The way they’ve treated this show is shameful, so do you really think that they would bend over backwards to keep Patricia Arquette after her contract expires, unless the show’s ratings go through the roof next year? Wouldn’t that be awesome though? :)
I recently read that the cast of the now-ABC-show Scrubs is much happier because they were tired of the way NBC treated the show (lack of promotion, moving it around the schedule, etc.).

If THAT show got mistreated, then what would you call the way they’ve handled Medium? Scrubs got at least TWICE as much promotion as Medium ever did.

Just thought I’d share this, if anyone’s interested.

Thomas dropped in at RAW recently and had a few words to say about different things, mostly about his recently announced venture with
    HBO, called “Hung”.

Here’s a little of what he had to say about it.

“truth be told, i would not be doing this show if it interfered
with my film career. it’s a half hour, single camera show (meaning
it’ll be shot on film, like a movie, not with three vid cams.) it’s
13 episodes, so i’ll only be working 3 - 4 months out of the year on
the show, leaving plenty of time for a film or two, and all the comic
stuff we’re doing with Raw, as well as the series i’m developing for
sci fi channel - VOYAGE TO SAVAGE PLANET.”

There’s more, so jump over to RAW and check it out.
