Wanna Help Coproduce a Movie?

by Katelyn on August 8th, 2008

This looks kind of fun and Stephan Shakespeare is definitely a very reputable guy, so it should be completely legit. You help coproduce a movie, from voting on the storyline ideas to picking actors.

While the first stage is closed, they are accepting people in at the second stage. I think it sounds like something anyone who has always wanted to produce a movie would love to do. At the very least, maybe you can find out more about how movies are made.

    Leslie,
I hope you have a lot of fun! It sounds like a really great way to learn more about the stuff behind the making of a movie.

I hope so. I researched him on the internet and he seems to be okay.

Is this thing really legit, Katelyn? Cause it sounds like something that might be interesting, or at the very least, fun,, but my unbridled skepticism makes me wonder. It almost sounds too good to be true. I’d like to give it a go, but I’m not sure about it.

    Dawn,
I don’t know much - just that the guy in charge does have a good reputation. I’m assuming they’re basically getting a bunch of very cheap help and a ton of buzz for the movie they end up with. You’d have to go into it knowing you were splitting that percentage of the net profit with hundreds of other coproducers and there’s a chance there’d be very little net profit to split. Quite a few movies don’t make it into the black, so you could have a scenario similar to this:
Hmm…30% of $5,000 split by 1004 coproducers is…Oooh, I’m ordering dinner from the dollar menu tonight!

Thanks, Katelyn. I was actually thinking that it would be a fun project. It would be neat to get something back from it, but it just looked a neat way to get a peek at the inside workings of the film biz. You gotta expect that there will probably be little to no return on it, but I was more concerned about the possibility that there might be a catch somewhere down the line and they’re using this as a hook to catch you. Call me a skeptic, but I take almost everything with a large grain of salt, lol!

I think I’ll look into a little more anyway. Thanks.

Actually, it sounds like it could be a nightmare! Have you ever worked with a large committee on anything? OY!

In a way is sounds like a ton of fun, but when you think about it realistically, Oy vey!
