What I Really Think About Patricia Arquette at the Golden Globes
Okay, here is the thing: I LOVE Patricia Arquette. I love her thin, I love her normal-person-sized (which is NOT fat), I love her with long hair, I love her with short hair, I love her blonde, I love her…uh, blonde, and I even love her crooked little teeth. I love the fact that she lives a relatively normal life and is ever so slightly weird. I love that she comes from an acting family and is such a professional both on the set and off. I love that she makes an effort to go out and be seen to drum up publicity for her current project, whatever that may be.
Yes, even when that publicity involves being ravaged by the press for what she chooses to wear, which brings me to the Golden Globes.

Now really, was this dress so bad? I thought it was kind of fun with the leather bandeau top. Granted, the color is boring and doesn’t do a thing for her and she looks a little bare about the shoulders. My main critique is with her hair: what color is that? And did they really need to pull it all back like that? It is so severe.
As for her makeup, well, she looks a lot like me when I put on makeup: all the lines and wrinkles show up. Which is crazy because her sister, who is older, looked smooth and fresh. Has Rosanna had some work done or does she just drink an awful lot of water?
I know I sound rather negative, but I say these things with love. I want Patricia to look good. I want her to stay off those Worst Dressed lists. I want her to look like a glamorous movie star with a posse of stylists catering to her every whim.
Oh Patricia, I love you enough to tell you to get a better stylist. Your fans will think you look fabulous no matter what you wear so don’t do it for them. Do it for you. You deserve it!

I don’t think the dress is that bad (though, like you, I think the color choice could have been better.) The hair makes me wonder if her blonde bob on Medium is a wig? I can’t see her makeup well enough to tell.
Or maybe she’s from the Helena Bonham-Carter school and is of the attitude, “If you don’t like what I’m wearing, tough!”

See my earlier comments - girl looks BAD.
I share your admiration of Patty, and I too would
like to see her looking great at these shows for
HERSELF. That’s the frustrating part - she’s already an attractive woman, and then she makes choices that downplay her attractiveness rather than play it up - and I don’t think it’s on purpose.

D’ya think she reads the blog?

G - Damn! I hope so! I’ve been offering to take that girl shopping and so far no response! I could whip up something out of old bed sheets I have lying around and have her better dressed than she usually is! It just bugs me because I really do like her.

Maggie: You can see the makeup up close and personal here.
G: I read that Patricia advised the real Allison DuBois not to read her own press because it would “consume” her. That makes me think Patricia does not read her own, either. If she does read this blog, or one of her handlers or family does, it all comes from love, people! You know we only hurt the ones we love.
JCW: Why am I picturing Carol Burnett descending a staircase wearing a curtain rod draped with fabric as a dress?
Random thought: There is no such thing as bad press. Patricia keeps her name in the spotlight and her projects (Medium, etc.) bask in the peripheral glory. It is almost better for people to think you are a mess because they talk about you more, thus increasing your press-mileage. My feed reader searches for stories on all of the Medium cast but it rarely finds anything on anyone besides Patricia. Whatever they are doing in their off time, they are not getting press for it. Boob Dress or no, Patricia is doing an excellent job of marketing herself.

Thanks for the link, Sheila. Rosanna might have had plastic surgery and I don’t know if she smokes, but Patricia does, and that ages a person very quickly. (That’s one of the reasons I quit over 20 years ago.)
And you made a good point about bad press being better than no press. At least wearing bad clothes isn’t the worst she could do.

I thought Patricia looked beautiful at the Golden Globes. While her dress was a bit plain, I thought it was simple, tasteful and elegant. And her hair. Well, there’s only so many things you can do with short hair, and the color, hair is always darker underneath. As for the smoking, I thought she quit years ago. Anyway, I agree with you. I hate to see her keep showing up on the worst-dressed lists, and sometimes it is deserved, but most of the time it isn’t. I think the people in the press just enjoy picking on her. But I really don’t think she reads what they say, or even cares. She seems like the kind of person who does what she wants and couldn’t care less about other people’s opinions.

Maggie: I didn’t know Patricia smokes! I have always wondered WHY smoking ages people. Is it because you are always pursing your mouth to suck in the smoke and that causes wrinkles?
OMG I just did a Google search and this is what I found:
“Smoking narrows the small blood vessels in your skin, thus reducing healthy blood flow. When this happens, the delivery of essential nutrients like collagen, vitamins and minerals are greatly reduced. Smoking also activates a type of enzyme which break down collagen, the main structural protein in the skin that keeps it elasticated.
Over time, your complexion deteriorates. Your skin will look dry, old and wrinkled. On top of that, frequent squinting from cigarette smoke leads to more wrinkles. You may look as though you’re always frowning.
In addition, most smokers experience the darkening of their lips, a typical tell tale sign of a smoker. Other experts add that smoking worsens dark eye circles.
Smoking also affects the healing process of your skin. Wounds and scars tend to take longer time to heal. Smokers are at higher risks to infections and scabbing from operation wounds or open injuries.”
Who knew!
Dawn: I do hope she doesn’t give a rat’s ass what people think. Life is so much simpler when you can do that.

Amen to that! And you’re happier in the long run.
