Win a Copy of Pet Ghosts

by Katelyn on May 9th, 2008

pet ghostsWant to win a copy of Pet Ghosts by Joshua Warren? The publisher is giving away copies of this book to two lucky Medium readers. To enter, all you have to do is share a spooky pet story of your own in the comments. Need some help getting started?

In the 1890’s house I grew up in, we spent an awful lot of time searching under the beds for the cat that streaked into the room past us some evenings. It was several months before we realized that it was no longer a real cat and that was why we couldn’t ever find it in the room.

So, what pet ghost have you seen? If you don’t have a story to share, you can still play along. Let us know which pet you’d like to have haunting you.

This contest will end on May 15th and the winners will be chosen by using random.org.

I had a schnauzer that was like a child to me, she passed and My Husband bought me another schnauzer a year later. The first schnauzer Stormy would sing Rock a by Baby with me. Occasionally my second schnauzer BJ will out of the blue start singing the song and I always think Stormy is visiting us from the other side.

I don’t have a pet ghost story, but I think our cat used to project himself somehow when alive. My husband would swear the cat jumped up on the bed with him, only to find out that he (the cat, not the hubby) was asleep in the garage all along.

I don’t think I’ve been haunted by any of my pets (Cat, gerbil and hamster), but I hope I’m haunted by my cat. :> Not trying to show favoritism or anything, but he was like a brother to me.

Still believing in these things since I was a kid, although most people think I am nuts. “There are NO ghost cats, Melissa!”…Oh well, the curiosity is still there, would love to read other peoples stories

My moms house has a cat that is sometimes seen but I never personally seen it myself. This book would be a great gift for my older brother.

This story is of my white cat that passed away about 5 years ago now.
She died at home and I was going to take her out to bury her. It was Thanksgiving day, cold and pouring rain. My friend said she would come help and I would met her there.
I prayed before I left. I did not know where little kittie souls would go or if she would be ok. I just asked God to show me some white flowers to let me know that I never had to worry about her.
When I got out there, my friend was there. She got out of the car with a large bouquet of white roses!! She had been in a wedding and decided to bring them for Casper. She almost threw them away.
I was smiling and crying at the same time. What a great gift and I know she is so happy now.
About the ghost part, I saw twice a small white mist zipping down the hallway. She’s the only white cat I have ever had and I know it was her.

I don’t have a pet that’s been haunting me; but I do know which pet I’ve had that I wouldn’t mind seeing again.

When I was a baby, my parents got a Boxer named Tammy. This dog was the most gentle dog that God created, I do believe. She would pull me around the house by biting down on my diaper; supposedly I was laughing and having a grand time!!

She brought neighbourhood dogs to the house and showed them her house room by room and then showed them the way out!! lol I swear this is the truth!!

She had her own chair in the T.V. room at my parents house and sometimes people would come over and unknowingly sit in Tammy’s chair. Tammy would sit at their feet and stare at them until the person would get up and leave.

She let us (my siblings and I) dress her up when we played dress up!!

One Christmas, we were at church and all of us had made Gingerbread Houses and they were on the mantle piece above the fireplace. Well, we got home and ALL of the houses were eaten but for a few crumbs and Tammy sat there looking so innocent lol

I have a lot more memories but as you can tell; I would love to be visited by Tammy!

My beautiful black & white cat, Fluffy, was with me for 11 1/2 years. She really was my soulmate, understood me perfectly, and was the light of my life. When she passed, I missed her terribly. But even now, years later, she seems to be with me in spirit. I sometimes can even feel her in my arms, snuggled with her head next to mine, especially when I’m not feeling well or am unhappy. I have other wonderful cats with me now, of course. But my Fluffy will always be with me, too. I can still see her black & white beauty and startlingly beautiful green eyes watching me!

I had a cat named Toozer that held off death until 2 days after my birthday in 2002. Sometimes at night, i feel like a cat is walking across the foot of my bed. When I sit up to see if it is Dora or Romeo (my current cats), there is no one there buy I still feel like someone walking across the bed.

I had a Sheltie named Tartuffe who used to lay under the desk at home while I did at-home medical transcription. We were inseparable. She died several years ago but sometimes when I am typing on the computer late at night, I can feel her brush against my leg. I miss that dog something awful.

I went out of town with my daughter for a job interview as the company put us both up in a hotel. Once we were both in bed and just shut the lights, I had a strange sensation as if there was a ghost cat in the bed with me, walking gently over the covers with their 4 little feet. I yelled out to my daughter about this, but we were both so tired from the long drive, we quickly fell asleep.

Almost two years ago, our family’s cat passed away very suddenly. He was not that old He was in good health, so we never even had a chance to say goodbye. I loved him like crazy.
One day, I was thinking about how much I loved and missed him, and I felt a lump grow in my throat.

That’s when I heard it – his distinctive meow. I thought I was hearing things, but I would have recognized that meow anywhere. My eyes flew open and my head jerked upwards. There he was, running towards me.

I couldn’t believe my eyes… although. I ran forward immediately and scooped him up like I’d so desperately longed for. I guess I was expecting him in a way… I knew this would happen sooner or later. I don’t know how, but I knew. He was just as I remembered him. As he purred into my ear, I felt tears running down my face, soaking his beautiful fur as he bunted my jaw like always. He seemed to smile at me and communicate that he was happy. He was happy.
He let me hold and lov him one last time. But eventually, as cats are known to do, he decided that he had had enough. He pushed off of my chest. I reached out to pet him one last time, and tearfully said goodbye. I knew that I would never see him again.

He began to walk away from me. I was sniffling a lot at this point, but I felt relieved and warmed to have finally gotten to say goodbye to my beloved cat. And then, right before my eyes, he faded away.

About four years ago my pug and best friend Molly died. Days after her death when I would start in my bed-room at night when my room was dark, I would start to turn on the light and I’d see a dark shadowy figure that would look like her on my bed standing at the edge of it, Like she was looking at me. When I’d turn on the light the figure would fade away quickly.

When she was alive she use to sleep with me every night. I think she was letting me know that she was still around. Would be happy to be visited by her ghost again.

I love reading ghost books and would be thrilled to win this book…Thanks!!

I have had many cats over the years so of course I have outlived some of them.
I don’t consider sightings of my passed cats’ hauntings, but I do consider them to be paranormal experiences.
I have had the wonderful experience of seeing all of my cats after they have passed on.
The most recent passing of my cat, Mandi, was the most unusual though.
On the last morning that she was with me, she had stepped in wet litter and left her little footprints across the hardwood floors. I promptly cleaned them up.
As the day wore on, I realized that Mandi was not doing well and ended up taking her to my vet. I pretty much knew that she wouldn’t be coming home with me. Considering that she was 21 years old, I faced the fact that euthanasia would be best for her to end her suffering.
When I came home, I was shocked to see that all of the footprints I had cleaned up had reappeared. Every time I tried to clean them up they would resurface. Finally, after about 3 days of this, I gave up trying. I thought of Mandi every time I saw them so it was a bit sad.
The day I went to the Vets to pick up her ashes I returned home with them to find no trace of her footsteps! They were completely gone. It was if her spirit was wandering around at home until I actually physically brought her ashes back. Once she was home, she could finally rest in peace.

I sometimes think that my beagle reincarnated as my current cat Luna. She sniffs and tracks way too much for a cat. I’m not sure if that counts, but if it doesn’t I certainly wouldn’t mind Snickers haunting me.

I don’t actually have a Pet Ghost Story but I’d love it, if my Cockapoo Curly would come back and visit me now and then. I rescued him from the Humane Society when I was in second grade and he lived until I was 23 and I miss him so much.

I had a cat pass away and shortly after he passed a light started to come on by itself the first time was a little spooky but I looked at the dog and said Lucky I think the cat is try’n to tell us something I got used to it and thought it was nice after while then it tappered off and stopped coming on then I missed it.
A few years later the dog Lucky passed and the same light started to come on again. I just looked up and said Oh Lucky I miss you so much.
At the time Lucky died the very last spot that he layed in the two cats I had would go roll all over that spot they did not get along with the dog and I could not figure it out but it made me wonder if something was there I could not see. That was giving the cats a feeling of happiness.
In the last few weeks my cat Pumpkin passed she was a little over 19 and my little sweet heart I miss her like crazy and just wish she woudl turn the light on so I know things are okay. I hopelessly await dreams of her or a feeling that she is in bed with me again or the old light thing. Anything for a feeling of peace.
I would love for any of my animals that have passed to come visit it is a good feeling after the inital spook. If only to feel hold or see them agian would be wonderful.
Animals are one of gods greatest gifts. Always to be kept close to our hearts in memory.
    Everyone hug your pet today….

Cool contest. My childhood neighbors buried their dog underneath a step that led to their swimming pool. I jumped over that step every time I visited their pool because I found it a bit creepy. I don’t recall actually seeing a ghost dog, but I did (or imagined I did) hear barking a few times from behind the pool’s slide. Now that I think about it, I wonder if the man who owns the house now knows that there’s a dog buried there.

walk by pause look at the pups and then
he was gone. It was amazing all who were

My aunt had a miniature schnauzer than passed away about 3 months ago. She got him not long after her husband died and become very attached to him, and when he died it was really difficult for her. Not long after he passed strange things began happening, like she would think she heard his collar jingling in bed next to her and when she would feel the spot it would be warm. He would also run for the mail every day, in the process scrunching up a small area rug in the hallway. Sometimes after the mail comes she will find the rug scrunched up just like it used to be. My sister and I have also both heard the sound of his toenails on the hard wood floor. Perhaps our pets stay around us to bring us peace and comfort even after they pass on.

A few years ago a black cat came to our backyard meowing and meowing. He seemed lost so i kept it in our yard. I would feed it everyday and one day he even jumped on my back, I thought that was very funny. He was so friendly. And he got along so well with my other cats. But he disappeared one day, unfortunately and sometimes I wonder if he was a ghost cat that came to visit me. :p

i had this wonderful red lhasa apos named ACC. he did some of the strangest tricks that he tought to me, and in a lifetime of dogs there was no other like him>> he never left my side, he was the best! “never” expecting another like him, some ten years later i was getting a black standard poodle girl and had four to choose from as the breeder wanted to keep the white puppy. yet every time i went to evaluate the litter for my black choice, the little white one crawled into my lap and stayed no matter how long i was there!!!>> on the day we picked up our black puppy, the breeder said she would not keep the white puppy since she will not make a good show puppy as she is too quiet plus>>>> SHE “ONLY” LIKES YOU!! needless to say we got them both. the very first thing i noticed is she ate her food in straight lines>>JUST LIKE ACC! it turned out she was a huge happy show off and did well in the ring too! as time went buy i understood that she withdrew from everyone else so she could be with me! like acc, she does not like toys and as the years go by, she is teaching me all the same tricks that acc tought me so many years ago, plus she too never leaves my side. acc came back to me as a big beautiful girl and we have been playing ever since>> love is best the secont time around…

Our cat was missing for 3 days when my husband discovered her on the curb , hit by a vechicle, several streets from home. Oreo was 9 years old. When our kids came home from school , we had to sit them down and tell them the horrible news. Our son said , “No way , I just took a picture of her with my cellphone.”
He showed us the picture. It certainly looked like Oreo. My husband thought he must of buried the wrong cat.
We went outside and looked, and looked but we never did find her. It’s been two years and no one has seen her again. A ghost perhaps??

I think our dog Buddy came back in the puppy left in the street outside of our house just a few months after Buddy died. I think our cat Sassy came back in the cat that showed up on our porch a little over a year ago. It’s not really spooky, but these two animals act (and look a little) like the two that died in so many ways.

Haven’t been haunted but did have a pet dog named Snoopy when I was a kid. He was young and healthy and suddenly died one day. Every night my childhood pet, Cinnamon, use to sleep curled up between my arm and my body. One night, after he had passed away, I remember awakening in the middle of the night with my arm in it’s usual position to accommodate Cinnamon’s sleeping habits and I saw him. It was a transparent, grayish-white, figure of him cuddle in my arm. Not once did I feel afraid, I actually felt at peace with his presence. It was as if he had come to see me one last time to say good-bye and let me know he was all right. I know I wasn’t dreaming and it still brings tears to my eyes whenever I think of it, but in a positive way.

I feel whatever supreme being you care to believe in gives us our animals and pets to become our angels not only on this earth but to come back to us when they have gone to a heaven for all animals. Many Thanks SW

A couple of years ago I was wakened at dawn by instinct. I opened my eyes and there was a calico cat next to me looking out the window behind me. I watched him for several seconds, then he faded out of sight. A few nights later, I woke to a scratching noise. There was a grungy gray cat nosing around the dried plants on my ledge. I yelled “Hey!” and it disappeared. No sound of a thud when he jumped down, and no way he could get in or out of my apartment. I also had people ghosts that year, but that’s another story.

Would love to read the book. I don’t hav a pet haunting me but two pets I would love to see again. A lab mix dog named Misty and a persian cat named Bugs. I had them both as a kid. Misty was just the sweetest dog and Bugs was the little leader of my pets.

About two years ago we became very good friends with another couple. They had a golden retriever. She was kept in a large penned area when guests were in the house.
On several of the visits I saw a wolf in her pen that disappeared when I tried to look closely at it. As time went on and the golden retreiver became part of the family the wolf was gone.
I later found out that the retriever replaced a german shepherd that had to be put down because of old age, I wonder if the german shepherd was making sure the golden retreiver behaved.

I know that animals are able to communicate telapathically before and after “death”.
